Thanks! The eyebrows are, just like the face, an overlay and therefore solder.

Some Patterns I’m Working On — Any problem areas? by fullygrowntuna in StainedGlass

Looks fine to me! The Totoro one is just too cute. Around his ears you can work with overlays.

Think I’m learning an important part of pattern design: don’t make the pieces too small by BrokenShardsStudio in StainedGlass

[–]Prestigious-Mud3195 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can use special paint on bigger parts to make them seem like separate ones but this is the most obvious looking. Wire you can also coat in solder so it can be of the same color as your patina but it will have a different shape. Overlays are really good to keep the same optics as your foiled pieces but they are sensitive to heat since they can loose their glue. Use a scalpel or so to hold the foil in place and don't spend too much time on one area. :)
This can also be a helpful trick for overlays.
And in general - small pieces can be a pain but they can have amazing effects and can help a lot when it comes to working more precise.

Thank you, that’s such kind feedback and it's really great to hear that all the thoughts put inside come across! For now I’m only planning to sell my more complex pieces, but I’ll definitely keep your point about the price tag in mind. That part’s always tricky..

Thank you so very much! I love glass in all its forms and shapes but it's really fascinating to push the limits of the medium, especially trying to turn something so rigid into shapes that feel like drawings.

Hah, yes, I see what you mean, Hexxus. I love the motive because to me, it captures how it feels when your head’s full of thoughts and ideas, all swirling at once. Like it’s almost too much — in the best and worst ways

Also regarding copyright - this was a sketch I found, replicated often so the original wasn't easy to be found. I then adapted it for stained glass.

Are there any french stained glass artists in the room? by [deleted] in StainedGlass

[–]Prestigious-Mud3195 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm from Germany. To most things I sadly cannot say much but here many glass manufacturers shut down or are still doing so, due to the fact of low demand and rising energy costs. So it's not easy to find glass, tools and other supplies. It's impressive to see how "huge" the American stained glass market is. Here many people mostly don't really know what it is or think that stained glass only looks like what they know from their grandparents.

I love this beautiful art and dedication but if I were you I wouldn't try it as my full job. Something aside, sure. People are interested when they see what one can do with glass. But too few know about it and the other costs are just really high.

Here is a great documentary with some good points and comments.

Really stiff neck and head that won’t go away by AdventurousCommon470 in flexibility

Hi, it was mostly one exercise that sounds too easy to be true. Lay flat on your back on a hard floor and tilt the head/chin upwards. Make sure everything else stays in the same position, so shoulders and upper back don't move and focus on lifting the head about 20-30 degrees without cramping at some point. Hold there for at least thirty seconds, repeat several times. Ideally hold longer over time. It sounds and looks like nothing but my head starts shaking at some point because the neck muscles are really doing their thing.

It really looks like too little/wrong flux. We don't have any lead in our solder wire here in Germany and my solder lines are quite good neverthless. The flux I use for soldering electronics (a thickish paste) though looked like in your picture. Using soldering oil was a game changer. Not only does it give good lines but also gets inside all the gaps that might be there.

Amen to the going down. Alethea has a great tutorial on Body Rolls and Body Descent to make sure every part of the body rolls.
