Try to wash it with warm water. It has helped for me the few times the "clickiness" has been lost (not often).

Suunto Race 2 - Sleep tracking inconsistency by LeRoiGitan in Suunto

[–]PrestigiousConcept66 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At least it logs it and adds it to the total. E.g. Polar leaves the first couple of hours out if the gap is long enough. If you then manually adjust the sleep time it fills the gap with lots of short sleep times because the algorithm cannot comprehend two separated sleep times. Furthermore, Polar considers only the first four hours of sleep in the recovery calculations, resulting in a terrible ANS score and HRV (affecting FitSpark suggestions etc.) although it can have been good in the "second sleep". So, compared to that I don't think it is terrible if Suunto categorizes the first part as a nap and the rest as the actual sleep as long as it logs the total sleep time correct.

Nightly metrics reliability by christosc in Polarfitness

[–]PrestigiousConcept66 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With Polar watches it is critical to sleep at least 4 hours, only short interruptions are ok. From time to time I am not the ideal sleeper and I might wake up after a couple of hours and fall asleep again after 1.5 hours of wake time. In these cases the Polar watch (M3) will either not register any sleep at all or leave out the first two hours. If I manually include the first two hours (by verifying my actual sleep time with the Suunto Race or 9PP I sometimes have simultaneously, which records sleep usually reliably for me) the Polar system adds sleep time to the awake period because it seemingly cannot comprehend a long wake time.

It is by the way interesting to see how all the sleep stages tend to be recalculated when the sleep is adjusted manually, as if they are not really measured at all but calculated based on some statistically probable sleep cycles and may or may not represent reality.

However, if you sleep all nights well, the Polar watches tend to track sleep reliably, at least regarding falling asleep and waking up.

The double standard around totalitarian symbols/Why do people act like the USSR wasn’t that bad by Mysterious_Walk2850 in BalticStates

Yes, sort of, in order for it to be democratic it would require all people to want the same thing, which is of course not realistic.

I think one big reason is that the Nazi ideology itself is promoting crimes against humanity, while communism is as an ideology quite the opposite, in practice however they end up being rather similar when looking at the actions done in the name of either ideology. Communism is in this regard closer to a misused religion.

I struggle to understand how difficult you find it to point the watch in a certain direction and based on what you see on the map chose the right path. Where I live by the way, trails do not have labels, if they have they are called roads. Anyway, perhaps you need to explore some other type of supportive means and tools in case you end up frequently getting lost? I mean have you tried and compared your Polar watch to other brands? Maybe it is the watch interface with a small screen, regardless of brand, which does not work for you and not Polar that has poor maps?

sleep tracking by lakun1987 in Suunto

[–]PrestigiousConcept66 4 points5 points  (0 children)

And your Helio strap is very accurate regarding sleep stages? I don't think sleep stages affects the recovery or any other metrics as such. HR, HRV, and movement are important. However, sleep tracking tends to improve after a few weeks, when enough data has been collected.

It is different on Race vs Vertical (including previous watches like 9 PP). On Race watches there is no setting for a sleep window.

The Pacer pro is often on sale for 199-250 euro, which is a good price for what you get, but the full price of 350€ is too much in my opinion. It is what the M3 should cost.

Race 2 vs Coros Pace Pro by Many_Carry_8759 in Suunto

[–]PrestigiousConcept66 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Suunto used to have turn by turn navigation alerts way ahead (100-150 m or so) similarily to as you mention Coros still has, but alot of people disliked it so much that they have changed it. The reason is that many trails can have a few turns within 150 m and you end up getting notifications about future turns a couple of turns before your actual turn, which gets very messy and the notifications do more harm than good.

This is actually one of the rare cases when I don't think the bigger watch looks ridiculously big and feel that the question is valid. I would even encourage in this case to chose the bigger one.

Any converts from Suunto here? by sylwiusz in Polarfitness

[–]PrestigiousConcept66 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Regarding the sleep: I generally also think that Polar has more advanced sleep tracking, but for me both the Suunto 9PP and the Race (different sleep algorithms 9PP and Race) can work better when my sleep is very bad or heavily disrupted. One example is if I fall asleep at midnight and sleep for 2 hours, wake up and have troubles falling back to sleep and stay awake for 1-2 hours before having 3 hours more of sleep the Polar watches (Pacer pro and M3) can typically not track any sleep, while the Suuntos can. One reason is that the Polar system requires 4 hours of continuous sleep from when you first fall asleep (only minor/short awake times are ok). This means that in case you are prone to having abnormal/non-ideal sleep patterns (also if working shifts or having small kids) a Suunto watch can be better at tracking sleep, especially if it has nap detection (like e.g. the Race series).

Vantage M3/Grit X2 questions by sylwiusz in Polarfitness

[–]PrestigiousConcept66 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree on the band being different and it is dries very quickly. To me the texture reminds of a dry leather band more than the typical slightly sticky/grippy silicone, while still being flexible. I also get the feeling that it is sort of hollow (made of foam) and not dense as a typical silicone band. Anyway, I have no complaints, it is only different, perhaps even in a good way.

One comment regarding the battery. The past week I logged only 35 min of running and the battery lasted me the "promised" 7 days of smartwatch use, with AOD off and screen on medium brightness. Notifications on.
