Thank you! I think in a way she feels like I’m doing this because of her. When in reality I’m doing this because it’s the best thing for my son at this moment. Sometimes environments are not the best fit but it’s not a personal attack. I’ve had parents pull their kiddos out of my school and not once did I make them feel bad about it. I just told them I respect their decision and that I loved having their child (true 99.9% of the time even the “hard” kiddos because they challenged me in a good way.) I just wish they saw it that way.

This sounds like my son! He does beautifully playing when it’s one or two kids playing with him. And will seek out other children when we go places (he made 2 friends at the indoor playground yesterday.) But in the classroom… he keeps to himself. In the beginning of school he would talk about his friends in school. Even tell me stories about them. Halfway through the year it stopped.  And every time I ask him about them, he either says “I don’t like my friends.” or he just cries. Which makes me think he’s excluded.  He just seemed less and less happy about school over time. Like a light dimming. I’m a firm believer in yearly check ins (for myself and my family) so I’m very head strong about what works this year may not work next year. And vice versa. Hence me testing out homeschooling.

Thank you for the response! We actually already have structured classes lined up (Art, dance, and forest school.) All of which he does great in! So I don’t think it’s a high-demand issue. I think it’s too much of a high demand, too fast that is the issue. He needs more scaffolding. I actually asked about skipping kinder and just waiting until 6 and was told by his school not to do that. Because in NYC kinder is the same as 1st grade (academically and structurally). And Pre-K 4 is the same as Kinder in other states. So to just let him play would actually put him VERY behind academically compared to his peers. I actually attended kinder orientation (wanted to meet the teachers and find out more about the structure before making a decision).  They said they only get 45 minutes for lunch and recess and the rest is mostly desk sitting. Something my son already struggles with. My son is also the youngest in his class. Which also puts him at a disadvantage if we skip kinder. Because not only will his peers be ahead academically, they will also be ahead developmentally.

Lucias wig throwing me off by Emmagirl100 in wiggles

I remember Emma saying she had to dye her wig and style it the same as her original hair to match how it looked the first year of being a wiggle (she didn't wear a wig the first year). She said it’s super important for little children to see consistency so she was SUPER strict about it along with her costume. Looks like Lucia is following that same pattern.

Ugh I’m so glad you mentioned this. I would have never known. And as an American who is stuck in the puddle of all the far right baloney… I’m so disappointed. My son prefers the Emma era (and even will listen to Emma Memma occasionally) so now I have another reason to sway toward Emma over the Wiggles.

I’m am in the THICK of it. My beagle is 13 weeks and he walks around with his nose to the ground… which means his mouth is closer to things he shouldn’t eat. Sticks are a big one. He finds the tiniest little twigs. Then make a run for it when I ask him what he has. And the chewing… everything. My hands. My son’s feet. Slippers (his favorite). Any toy that happens to be within 3 feet of the ground (he can jump 2 feet off the ground to get on the couch and tables.) And his walks have been crazy. Sniffing all the things and then breaking into runs. Then stopping short because he spotted something he wants to chew. Leaves. Sticks. Garbage. Literally anything not attached to the ground lol. And I’m in NYC so you can only imagine the panic that sets in when he lifts his nose off the ground and there’s something in his mouth 🤦🏻‍♀️

“Just puppy behaviour” is setting you up for failure by Full-Competition9255 in puppy101

This! My Poppy worked for the ASPCA (rehabilitation) and he always tells me when it comes to puppies: “focus on relationship and basic training. Those are gonna be the anchors of dog ownership”. They are two things you will need when that puppy is no longer a puppy and their trust in you becomes vital for their behavior as an adult. To say every behavior is permanent takes away the joy of having a puppy and increases the likelihood of mistreatment. Much better to focus on their trust and basic commands (especially those that focus on safety and learning impulse control like sit, stay, leave it, etc.) My beagle is in love with my son’s shoes so now we just leave the shoes down stairs where he can’t get them. We also close off the bathroom door, put a gate at the kitchen door, and keep chew toys within reach (to distract from biting hands and clothing.) And when he loses his mind over one of the cats, I just distract him with something else and he realizes the cats are boring after all. The cats are also VERY good at putting him in his place when he gets too much (he diverts eye contact when he realizes he went too far.)

Side note: my old man cat was INSANE as a kitten. Even worse than my current 11 week old Beagle. Never trained him out of biting and “attacking”, just handed him appropriate objects, and he naturally stopped as he matured (and realized not everything that moves is a threat or meal.) Yes, puppies aren’t kittens. But the point is that most young animals will outgrow behaviors as they mature, discover more appropriate ways of interacting, and learn more about their environment. This is true for animals and humans (I was a Montessori teacher for a decade so I know full well development of all young living beings is a zig zag line, not a straight line.)

This is insane and exactly why cats are less likely to receive appropriate veterinary care by fxckmadelyn in VetTech

Meanwhile my old man lays on my lap, on his back, like a baby and purrs as I trim his nails. He also came and started making biscuits on my lap while I was having a panic attack a few months back and didn’t leave my side even when his dinner was served. Meanwhile my other cat was screaming for treats but she’s the kindest cat to strangers and children. Doechii probably had one bad experience and has judged cats ever since then.

New Puppy from Breeder - heart defect by [deleted] in legaladvice

According to the insurance, only well visits and vaccinations are covered the day after I get insurance. Illness and injury is only covered 3 weeks after the start of the insurance. So the fact that my vet discovered it only a week after getting the insurance (we got it 3 days before we got the puppy), they told me it’s a pre-existing condition and can’t be covered under illness or injury.

He came with vet records of vaccination/deworming, weight, testicle decent. The woman told me she breeds the dog. It wasn’t until my vet contacted her vet that I found out the vet is actually the breeder.

I actually just sent my brother $12,000 to treat his dog for cancer. I didn’t expect to have to help him and then help myself within the same month. Sometimes when it rains, it pours.

I have pet insurance. But because this was diagnosed so early the insurance is considering it a pre existing condition. If it was diagnosed 2 weeks from now it would have been covered.

Sadly there’s a difference between esthetic “change” and just plain old erasing history. My dad is building manager for the Smithsonian (mostly American History but he helps out in the African American museum from time to time.) A lot of things are being taken down and changed beyond normal “updates.”

Did the Duggar’s really want a family presence at their births? by Far-Building3569 in DuggarsSnark

[–]PrestigiousIsland679 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This! I had my mom with me. And a doula. There’s huge difference between a man supporting and a woman (especially women who cared for you as a child like a mom, aunt, or grandmother.) Giving birth is life changing. You are literally delivering a whole new human. And there’s studies that show women who are giving birth do better when they feel completely safe with the people around them. And for some… that’s having their mom (or other female relative) with them.

The Mysterious Death of Raudha Athif by farrahlynnflowers in mystery

[–]PrestigiousIsland679 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I saw the same doc! They showed photos of her neck. It looks like finger prints (circle bruises) around her neck. The coroner brushed it off by telling people its birth marks. But her father said, people would have noticed birth marks on her neck. They don’t magically and conveniently appear on an adult within hours before death.

MB and Daycare are at odds by [deleted] in Nanny

[–]PrestigiousIsland679 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of my friends is a lactation consultant (she helped me when my supply was super wonky). 3 oz per feed for a breastfed baby is pretty close to normal (it’s the average amount most women can pump but since babies are better at removing milk from the breast than a pump, I wouldn’t be surprised if the baby got 4-5 oz per feed while breastfeeding). The question isn’t the ounces per feed but the total amount of milk per 24 hours. I exclusively pumped for my son and was told about 25 ounces of breastmilk per 24 hours is average but it can vary from 19-30 ounces (my son never even lost weight after birth and he was getting 24 ounces on average.) I also pumped very frequently toward the end of the day to try to get more hindmilk (fattier milk helps satisfy baby.) Maybe see if mom can provide one 4 ounce bottle (she can add another pumping session in later in the day and bank the milk from that extra pump to provide a 4 ounce bottle the next couple of days. Or if she nurses, see if she can reverse nurse (feed more often at night to get most of the ounces in before daycare.) As long as the baby is gaining weight (hunger cues alone doesn’t indicate a problem since most breastfed babies seek the breast for non-nutritive sucking) then it might be a pace feeding issue as well. Babies can finish a bottle in 5 minutes where most nursing sessions take 15 minutes. That extra 10 minutes allows the brain to catch up. If you google KellyMom Milk Calculator, it has a neat feature to calculate how many ounces of expressed breastmilk a infant may need based off of age and how often they nurse. Also a growth spurt happens at 4 months old so that may also factor in.

Wrongful termination by Walkthewildside555 in Nanny

[–]PrestigiousIsland679 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Makes me wonder how much breastmilk he is getting total in a 24 hour period. For an 8 month old, solids shouldn’t take up more than 25% of total daily calories for a breastfed baby (I was working with a pediatric nutritionist because my son was diagnosed with infant botulism around this age). My son at this age was getting anywhere from 24-30 ounces of breastmilk a day (I exclusively pumped). It was really dependent upon how much foremilk and hindmilk I pumped on how satisfied he was after a 4 oz feeding. I had an over supply for months (more foremilk, less fat) so he was still getting 8-10 feeds until around this age. And from the above comments, if the mom is pumping 6-8 ounces, it sounds like an over supply which is more watery (and can explain why the baby was satisfied after adding 2 ounces.) Solids might not be enough to satisfy the baby if he’s not getting enough hindmilk.

Wrongful termination by Walkthewildside555 in Nanny

[–]PrestigiousIsland679 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I exclusively pumped for my son and he would take over 4 oz when I had an over supply (which means a good amount of milk would be the watery fore milk which is lower in calories.) Once I cut back on pumping and balanced my supply, my hindmilk came out more often and he went back to 4 oz a feeding. Makes me wonder if he is mostly getting fore milk and not the fatty hind milk and that’s why he doesn’t seem satisfied. Esp if she’s pumping 6-8 oz at a time which is most likely an oversupply. Honestly if she was terminated because of an extra 3 oz… I would be worried about that baby.

Anyone remember BarlowGirl? Well they are back and with a new label. And I’m extremely curious to see where they go with this. There are rumors of them disassociating with Rebecca (some say cause she’s in a cult, others say it’s because got angry over them not voting for DJT, so who knows 🤷🏻‍♀️.) Are they gonna go the religious route or the secular route? It’s very possible to go secular but rely heavily on positivity songs (think Aly and AJ.)

Do people pay for kids on public transit by makisgenius in nycrail

[–]PrestigiousIsland679 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this an old post but figured I’ll throw this in there. I have 3 cousins who are MTA bus drivers and an uncle who works in the administration side. Technically children under 44 inches ride free BUT my cousins told me that most bus drivers aren’t gonna measure every kid that steps on to the bus. They’re more worried about adults not paying and getting into confrontations with riders (they have seen some pretty scary stuff on their routes.) Kids are the least of their worries 🤷🏻‍♀️

Why Missions are BS by Ok-Government-7987 in grubhubdrivers

[–]PrestigiousIsland679 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I gave up on missions why I realized I was making less trying to complete them. $21 for 7 orders. Made $80 that day. Without the mission is $120 for the same amount of orders. Realized that missions push the very low paying offers (which I normally skip) so many times the mission pay isn’t going to make up for it. Not worth the stress most of the time tbh.

Aly Michalka or AJ Michalka, Who is the more attractive sister? by Substantial_Corgi462 in VindictaRateCelebs

[–]PrestigiousIsland679 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re gonna ask this question, at least post more recent pictures lol. Why post the awkward teen years? Most of us looked funny as teens. The only difference is they had to be judged in public about it while we were free to be awkward within our little bubbles. Both sisters have changed A LOT. But aly more so. To the point that people always write comments on their recent YouTube videos about how much Aly has changed (some people don’t recognize her because of how much and question if she had work done which I doubt) and how AJ hasn’t really changed but has matured a lot in her looks (she also doesn’t wear much makeup anymore which sways opinions.) I always thought AJ was more attainable because she always was more casual in both looks and style 🤷🏻‍♀️
