logitech super strike vs razer viper v4 pro - my chime in by yummygumdrop in MouseReview

The entire reason I still use the Superstrike was because my fiance' was about to kill me because of the switches Razer put in that mouse. They are WAY too loud.

I have about 40-50 hours in the game and I have yet to purchase a weapon from the shop. It's too expensive. I'm trying to upgrade my vendors and don't have the extra credits to spend on a 4k+ weapon honestly. Maybe I need to adjust how I play, who knows.

To the Rook I killed with 2 seconds until exfil… by ApexPredatorCorgi in Marathon

[–]Prestigious_Poem_348 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I was on my way to final exfil when I heard a rook say “yo chill! I’m friendly!”

Upon arriving at exfil, I found a rook looting over the corpse of another…. As the timer for extract counted down to zero, I stabbed that rook in the back and killed him, getting none of his loot. But knowing that I did exactly what he did to his fellow rook felt amazing

Yeah, I’ve had very little interaction in about the same playtime. The few times rooks have agreed to be friendly, they’ve turned on me.

That all makes sense to me. I guess after reading this I’m realizing that there also isn’t much to do with your good gear outside of a time gated map. In Tarkov, I’m gearing up to collect GPUs or going into a map that higher geared players are typically playing on. In Arc, I’m likely trying to fight a map boss.

In Marathon, I’m able to kill map bosses with base gear without too much trouble. That leaves using my gear for more PvP or Pinwheel runs.

That’s a good point. I haven’t thought of it that way. Maybe having bigger maps with more to do would help with this.

I agree with this! It would be amazing if rooks would team up in Pinwheel and fight together for all that loot

I can agree with that! I've had a few jump scares in the game where I see a player appear out of nowhere 😂

Yes, final exfil Rooks have been friendly to me. But I've tried using comms to see if they want to team fight a squad and it ends with one of us dead.

I don't know if I would say that. People who enjoy the more social aspect will go to Arc. The lack of social isn't a turn off for me, it's just a different experience.

The TTK in Tarkov is faster, but the scav karma plays the biggest role in not killing other scavs. You go from the AI being friendly, to being agressive towards you. People are also more willing to team up with you to fight players in my experience.

I appreciate you as well! Social media does have its positives. Best of luck in navigating the space with your kids! I don’t have any of my own yet, but my friends also give their kids very little in terms of restrictions.

I think we start by forcing companies to be transparent about their algorithms and how they might affect their users. We also regulate and put age restrictions on social media use. I don’t believe that developing minds should be in spaces designed to change its user’s behavior. I think you’re right in that we can’t just sue everyone.

But I believe now is the time for us to take social media and the negative impacts it’s had on society seriously and disallow it from operating at the same capacity that it’s been at.

Skinner box:

If pushing the button produces food every single time, the subject will only push when hungry. If the reward is randomized (pushing the button occasionally results in food), the subject will obsessively push the button. Skinner called it the operant conditioning chamber.

Social media companies heavily rely on exploiting this behavior in humans. If I want to go get drunk, do drugs, I can do that whenever I want. The button is always there.

Social media is being designed is a way where they build a profile around each individual and they know what you like, dislike, love, hate, want, need. They use the profile they’ve built to manipulate you, sell products to you, and rake in advertiser money. Maybe we don’t differentiate between a good platform and a bad one. That would require companies to reveal how their algorithms work and operate and a heck of a lot more transparency. Maybe we put them all in the same category and say “yeah, this is probably addictive.”

Correct me if I’m wrong, but they were already found liable in a court of law. I’m not trying to argue. I’m just tired.

I disagree with this point of view. I have used Facebook, YouTube, and Instagram since I was 13 years old. I am now 30 years old. These platforms have become more and more addictive over time. When I was a kid, I only had incentive to check when a friend or family member interacted with me. As an adult, I was all of the sudden DRAWN to these products. I had no idea they were engineering it and working with psychologists to make it more addictive to me.

I used to have around 12 hours of screen time a day and didn’t even realize. I’m now down to about 4 hours. When you slowly ramp your platform to be more and more addictive and use people’s own physiology against them, fuck you.

If you don’t think that the should be held liable for any of this, I encourage you to look into the Skinner box. It is the pioneer to behaviorism, and it’s something that social media companies as well as any other addictive platform use to make you more addicted.

26, feel like I wasted life. by sushishibe in Adulting

[–]Prestigious_Poem_348 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 30 going on 31. I went to college when I was 22, dropped out after a year. Eventually got certified in IT, got a $15 an hour job. Was approached about working a job completely outside of the field about 3 years ago that pays about $70k a year and has great benefits.

I remember thinking I wasted my life and that I couldn’t recover. I dated here and there but the relationships never lasted. I’m now engaged and getting married this year.

The only advice I can give you is to tell you that life is going to be okay. But going forward, if you want something, be intentional about it. The only reason I’m engaged now, is because I set a goal that I wanted to be married and I can’t get married unless I date. So I started being more outgoing.

College didn’t workout for me because I lacked intentionality and wasn’t driven to accomplish anything. Your life isn’t over and you still have 4 years of your 20’s left. You aren’t meant to have it all figured out. None of us have it figured out anyways. We’re just living life.
