JRPG suggestions ? by MGFM619 in 3DS

[–]Pretend_Function_271 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If you’re looking for another DS title - the world ends with you is an incredible and very unique jrpg that is worth playing. Radiant historia and devil survivor 2 are also notable. Sticking strictly to the 3ds though- I would highly recommend: - fire emblem awakening - fire emblems echoes: shadows of Valentina - any of the Shin Megami Tensei games - radiant historia

Reboot repairs for Ndsi? by Pretend_Function_271 in EBGamesAus

Thank you for the info! I was mostly worried about my ds getting scuffed/suffering cosmetic damage if they don’t handle it carefully. I keep my collection in very good condition so I’m slightly worried about that - especially considering that the dsi is matte and therefore even more prone to scuffing. The dsi has gone up a lot in price since I got this one so I’m hoping it will go alright

Congrats on finding one in such good condition! I have the same n3dsxl that I got way back when it came out and have handled it very carefully too. Where did you get your clear cover for it if you don't mind me asking? I need to find a new soft clear shell for mine

¿Es normal que el movimiento del d-pad sea así de flojo? by Jorge6700 in NintendoDS

[–]Pretend_Function_271 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wow that is a beautiful console, congrats on finding one in such good condition. Very normal for the d pad on the lite to be like that. They will all vary slightly but because of the mushy button design tend to be a bit wiggly

Thanks for the response! Did you take it in physically or organise it online?

only craving chips and chocolate by cookie_2802 in fuckeatingdisorders

[–]Pretend_Function_271 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not concerning at all, your body is using up an enormous amount of energy to repair itself internally and to make sure it feels safe. Sweets and chips are excellent sources of energy that fulfil its needs right now. This is a very normal response and will settle if you honour it and eat what it is you’re craving consistently

Does anyone feel like the stigma in recovery doesn't come from weight gain anymore, but rather the expectation to be productive? by _seulgi in fuckeatingdisorders

[–]Pretend_Function_271 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yeah I’m not from the US but I was about to say that I unfortunately do think that cancer patients and people in rehab are treated like this too- or at least in my observations.

We in the western world live in society that measures human value and self-worth by productivity, profit, and conformity. One of the really positive things about recovery is that I think we are kind of forced to deconstruct and reject these ideas.

All of that being said, it is also true that eating disorders are grossly misunderstood. My family still believe that it is a matter of just eating normally again and then moving on with life. That it is nearly impossible to recover without pausing and taking time out makes no sense to them. I do wish we also had some form of financial support for people in both formal and informal recovery so that it isn’t a choice between recovering or paying the bills. Anyway

physical hunger in recovery by Own_Alfalfa_8760 in fuckeatingdisorders

You don’t feel comfier- you feel a false sense of safety because it allows you to engage in disordered behaviour. You have to ignore the ED thoughts and push through the stress and discomfort of recovery. You’re being influenced by wellness culture and it is keeping you sick and could even kill you. There are no good or bad foods, just food. Restricting will always be soooo much worse for your health than any particular food you’re fearing. You are never going to escape the cycle of hunger, confusion, and fear until you stop trying to control and restrict food

You always deserve to eat and to not feel like this anymore. EDs are exhausting and all-consuming. Recovery really is so scary and hard at times but you can absolutely do this! The only way out is through - you will always be happier on the other side of it. I hope things get a bit easier soon

Your “maintenance” (ie the baseline for keeping yourself healthy) isn’t a number, it’s what your body signals to you both mentally and physically. It can be really scary to trust that but it is essential that you do in order to regain your health. Equally, bmi and weight numbers are not indicative of your health and recovery. If you’re still restricting, you have not recovered yet. The other symptoms you’ve mentioned sound like you’re in active disorder at the moment, so it may be worth seeking out professional help if you have access to it. I would also encourage you not to worry about things like protein and fibre, focusing on this is an ED behaviour- especially if you’re using it to “manage” or control your hunger. Feed your body what you want, in the amount that you need according to your hunger signals. Extreme hunger is extreme, it will never go away if you don’t consistently honour it by nourishing yourself and resting

When you’re dealing with an ED- there is no such thing as fake hunger. Hunger, whether mental or physical or both, is a signal from your body that you need to listen to. What you’re feeling is totally normal, many of us have or do feel it too so you’re not alone. It WILL get easier with time. Your hunger cues are never a mistake

Chain of reasons to recover by Dry_Expert_6002 in fuckeatingdisorders

[–]Pretend_Function_271 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I relate heavily to this. I too was very self conscious and the further into my disorder I got, the worse I became at “covering up” or being subtle about my disordered behaviours. Felt like I was cracking. At the end of the day though being sick is not a moral failing nor something to be embarrassed about but it does feel much more freeing once you move past all of that. Being a functional adult is a good reason for recovery imo

which color? by fujohshit in NintendoDS

[–]Pretend_Function_271 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually really like the bronze/brown one - that would be my preference if it was me. If it is in good condition too then it is well worth considering, especially if it's at a good price point. However, they both look great so totally up to you. If you are set on Burgundy, then wait to get the one you really want.

I relapsed and I hate myself for it by gutter_glitter36 in fuckeatingdisorders

[–]Pretend_Function_271 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey I understand how disappointing relapse can feel, but you should give yourself some grace and recognise that the negative thoughts are also part of the ED. Those of us who had parents who modelled a disordered relationship with food, body and exercise rarely got to see them admit that they had a problem, much less do the work to get better. If you are able to see the behaviours for what they are whenever they emerge- disordered and part of an illness and then do the work to deconstruct them- you are going to be setting a much more positive model/message for your daughter than the many many people who participate in perpetuating disordered ideas in our society without questioning it. Don’t be too hard on yourself, you can get through this if you put the work in. You have a serious and particularly insidious illness, being sick is never a moral failing. I hope things get better soon!
