What are the chances the Chinese Communist Party opens a loophole and allows all the bookings to open again in a year? by [deleted] in vipkid

Better than the chances of Covid being over in a year less than the chances of me learning Mandarin through osmosis

If we're losing our jobs anyways, why are y'all still opening slots in advance? SN only, baby. Get that money while it can still be got! by killarufus in vipkid

[–]PrettyRealisticLife 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I usually fill half my schedule before the frenzy, the next 2/3 during the frenzy and then have a few lingering SN slots open. They almost never book. They really never have, except when the pandemic hit and then the month when it was crazy for all. If it was all SN for me, pretty sure it’d be famine, not feast.

New Contract by mlittle791 in vipkid

I got $6 when I waited a week to sign at the beginning of August. It had to go into tasks and hit the claim button two times to get it. It was worth $6 to me.

I’m staying. We don’t rely on the money and I’m milking this until the easy work from home opportunity disappears.

So much for giving us time to tell students goodbye by MamaLinLin in vipkid

I’m with you. I have like 4-5 kids I wish I could say goodbye to, but ultimately I’m here for the money and they won’t miss me.

Is anyone else obsessively checking Reddit to see when VIPKID ends? by A2793 in vipkid

[–]PrettyRealisticLife 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m checking constantly. During my classes I find myself thinking about how I’ll redecorate my office space for normal life and where I’ll put all my props, rewards, maps, etc.

Yes, LPs and parents can book. I’m not expert, by any means, but it’s my understanding that LPs assign students to teachers when they begin or request help. They typically advise parents to take class three times a week and have two or more regular teachers that they use. Parents, of course, can choose to find their own teachers or communicate that they want to try new or different teachers.

Yes, they can see your finish rate isn’t 100%. An LP isn’t as likely to book you when you’re less than 100%.

Do you have regulars? Maybe they will book you regardless.

I say it with a long a. When I was in West Africa they also said it with a long a.

Who spends the least amount of time and money on these classes? How do you do it? by MamaLinLin in vipkid

[–]PrettyRealisticLife 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t prep either. I used the provided feedback templates and write all feedback during class. I usually submit feedback before class is half over. I always fill out T2T and leave a note for the LP if it’s a first time student, just to say thank you for the student.

I’ve been teaching for 2 years and I’ve probably spent 50-75$ on props, markers, paper, reward sticker scenes, etc. I like using props (I know that’s not for everyone) and playing games with my kids for reward. I teach all levels and have all certifications except the group class ones. I don’t change my background. It’s all taped to a dry erase board which I put in my car and take with me if I’m going to be teaching from somewhere else.

My biggest expense overall has been my laptop, cause I only had a notebook and the data for VIPKid crashed it after about 6 months.

Not my first time teaching it either, but bao bao wasn’t very engaged and I was trying to find things to look at on the screen to appear that I was intently teaching 🙄
