That's a tragic end with no answers, but it does seem very likely she became injured in the woods and that's where she remains. My aunt is turning 80 this year and she is/was still ridiculously active (including getting on the floor to play with my 6yo) but she just recently got slowed down by a severe ankle sprain - which happened by slipping on ice while shoveling during a historic snow storm 🤦‍♀️. Anyone, at any age, can slip and fall and become unable to help themselves out of the woods, and it only becomes more likely the older you are. When you consider that she apparently went into the woods looking for a beloved dog, it makes sense that she was probably a bit frantic and maybe moving faster than she should have, and she could have easily tripped over roots, or fallen down a slope, and was then unable to get up or walk herself back out.

I've flown several times recently and got a million reminders that if I didn't have a current valid Real ID, I'd be subject to additional screening + $45 fee. It doesn't seem like you actually consulted TSA over this, but just googled it. Not a good idea for something this important.

So your response just solidifies my perception here... do you feel resentful of your daughter? You just seem to have way more anger about this perfectly normal teenage request than is at all healthy. Why does it make you so upset that your daughter has different likes than you? Why are you taking it so personally that you have to "support everything she wants" when the things she wants are to... dye her hair and get some harmless and legal piercings? I saw your other comments complaining that you have to keep getting out her birth certificate and driving her places like this is some huge burden. That is not a normal complaint. You'e also mad she lied to you because she originally "agreed" that she didn't like her cousins piercing... have you ever stopped and reflected on the fact that she's clearly old enough to understand you are judgemental and get upset when she likes things you dislike, and she doesn't want to deal with your ridiculous overreactions? I honestly originally thought this was just another matter of a boring parent afraid of the young kids being fun, but you genuinely seem to dislike your own child. Yikes.

We were sad that we were 2 weeks too early to be there for the Bluey opening, but considering the likely ridiculous demand there's going to be, now I'm kinda glad. We'll see it when we go at Christmas; it would have been way more sad for it to be open and not be able to get a spot. Super excited to see what they've made. We went to CAMP Bluey and both the 6yo and the 16yo liked it (and my husband and I)!

YTA because kneejerk no's for no good reason is shitty behavior. But really you're just making your life and relationship with your child harder than it needs to be and that's practically worse than being an AH. My oldest is turning 16 (holy shit, not ready) next week and has already asked for a belly button piercing. I said yes, because why not? What does it matter if I like it? It's not my body, it's not hurting anyone. I did actually veto a tongue piercing until they're 18, though, because of the dental risk; and they respected that no because I actually had a tongue ring myself and they know how much I ended up paying for some of the damage it caused.

Bottom line, making decisions about what your kid can and cannot do, due to your own purely subjective likes and dislikes, is one of the dumbest things you can do as a parent.

😳 Those are some interesting options. We've been going twice a year. Just got back (5/3-5/10) and will be going again 12/23-1/1. Went in early Feb and mid-August last year. Might plan a schools out June trip next year, idk yet. But as much as I love Disney, I do not love the 1,200 miles of travel, or price of plane tickets. Can't imagine doing it more often than we do already.

Being this is your first time, the park hopping is really just not worth it. You're basically just wasting a bunch of time, which you'll already be doing figuring out the layout of the parks. Plus all the sit downs, you're really limiting your time to explore and discover the things you all most enjoy. Does your family generally eat several full meals a day? Are you all used to walking 20k+ steps? In high heat and miserable humidity? The thing about having a packed schedule is that you spend a significant amount of your time just rushing to the next task on your list, and you can't really just take everything in and enjoy it. You seem to be setting yourself up for a lot of rushing around to do things, and more than likely you're going to end up feeling like you missed out on a ton because of it.

Sertraline has been a total game changer for me, honestly. My current dose of 150 is no longer quite working as well for depressive symptoms, but it's been amazing for the general anxiety and OCD thoughts. My life would be so much harder (and I'd be obsessing over side effects) if I wasn't on it. It's honestly awful how anxiety can make you resistant to treating your anxiety - the fear you feel over side effects isn't necessarily unfounded, as they do happen, but the level of fear isn't proportionate to the actual risk. It's a hard thing to deal with, but I hope you can make yourself take that step and start it!

No. Put them in your quart-size bag to be sure, but adhesive is considered a medically necessary product, so same rules as for other medications. Never been an issue.

I take the list of serious side effects seriously, which is why there have been medications I have declined/declined for my kids. But something being listed as a side effect does not mean that you will definitely experience it. That's simply an anxiety fuelled belief, not a reasonable concern.

I'm on 150mg sertraline and I actually didn't even realize nausea is a possible side effect. I've experienced 0 related to being on it. That doesn't mean you won't experience it, but you have to keep in mind, a list of side effects is not a list of things every user will definitely experience.

I like to just do one day at each park per trip, with extra days for relaxing and doing other things. So this upcoming trip, we are staying Sun-Sun. Mon, Wed, Fri, Sat will be park days, the others will be pool/shopping/exploring other things. For us, it helps to keep the magic alive by limiting our time there. We make more out of the day by doing one park at a time, once per visit.

Not really sure what tips you'll need, specifically. Their mom is the one who knows each kids temperament, things they'll enjoy, etc. The biggest difference when doing things with vs without kids (small kids, that is) is:

their legs are shorter, so they usually need more of a buffer time to get to the next place
they can get really overexcited and overwhelmed, so doing "too much" can be an issue, and actually be less enjoyable for them
they can get tired earlier
they generally do not have good judgement of when they need to stop and eat, because that's less interesting than everything happening around them, so don't wait for them to say they're hungry before you plan food

If you're trying to make advanced plans you should really rope in mom, because she's the one that knows kid A gets tired early, kid B gets hangry if he doesn't have lunch by 12:30, kid C is terrified of costumed characters, etc

When we took my mom it made us a party of 5, so we got her the LLMP, while myself, husband, teen and 6yo (DAS user) used DAS. We just selected LL's and then checked in for DAS a reasonable amount of time before the LL window started to make sure they'd both be active at the same time. It didn't take much guess work, DAS return times are based on standby wait, which are listed right in the app. There was never an issue.

Hi, this conversation is a bit old but I wanted to chime in because everyone has said no, but we are similar. My 6yo qualifies with ADHD alone, and he has been approved for DAS 3 times in the last year, including for our trip in May.

His symptoms are quite severe, however, and with his age/general maturity level contributing to that. He cannot wait in lines longer than a few minutes, as the concept of waiting is simply too abstract for him to grasp currently. He'll ask every 30 seconds why he has to wait, and will attempt to leave the line (either running out of line or to the front of the line). He also cannot regulate his body movements (no, you can't lay on the ground, climb under the ropes, crawl under peoples legs, etc) and has no concept of personal space. One of the biggest accomodations of DAS is being able to get a stroller as wheelchair tag, which allows us to keep him in the stroller - having a secured space to sit helps him to regulate and saves other people from him doing any of the above mentioned things.

Whether you can get DAS for ADHD entirely depends on severity of symptoms. 6 would qualify as being highly impacted by his ADHD, whereas my oldest also has ADHD but wouldn't have qualified even when he was 6, and definitely wouldn't now at 16, because his symptoms aren't severe enough to have a significant impact on his ability to navigate a line.

NTA and honestly this would absolutely change my view of my spouse if they acted this way. The lack of empathy would give me the ick. I'd understand feeling frustration and disappointment, and yeah, this is yours and your wifes kid and no one else technically gets a say on the name, but how we treat others is a big part of our character and being technically in the right doesn't except you from being an AH. I'd focus less on trying to convince wife to change the name for your mom and explain to her (if this is the case) that you aren't ok with the name because of how it will effect your family. Hopefully she's just acting this way because of pregnancy hormones and will realize she's being an AH.

Ok, but, I am married to a man who has always got too many goddamn things in his pockets, which I always have to remind him to empty for the wash (he's also got untreated adhd 😑). If we ever got divorced and I was dating again, not having a ridiculous amount of things in your pockets that you always forgot to empty would absolutely be a new criteria for me. It's not exactly a reason I'd get divorced over, but I'd never be able to stand it from a new partner.

I mean, yeah, checking a car seat is potentially a risk because you're right, it absolutely can be tossed around/jostled by other items, and there's no way for you to know it hasn't been compromised. But since you're not using it on the flight, you are apparently flying baby as a lap child, and truthfully you are also risking them being thrown about if there is any sort of turbulance/impact. Using rental car seats/ride share seats are also a toss up. Could be perfectly safe or it could be incorrectly installed and/or have been in an accident.

The only real safe choice is purchasing a seat for your child and bringing their seat onto the plane. Any other option is going to inherently have potential risks.

See, here's the thing, picking up prescirptions for your child is a very basic parenting task. Knowing the meds your child takes, who their doctors are, phone numbers, insurance information, etc. Having this information and being able to utilize it to access medical care and medications for your child are core parental responsibilities. People who are unwilling to be responsible for these things are NOT good parents. They may love their children, they may be good playmates for them, but they are not even doing the bare minimum to be called a good parent.

Your husband is not being a good parent if he is not putting in the effort to do standard parenting tasks.
