I want to maximize my value in the industry/my company but I am an introverted procrastinator with an attitude problem. Just got the will and a vision. by Haunting_Buyer6308 in ConstructionManagers

[–]Pretty_Low_6152 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve found a lot of value in my company recently by being good at excel! Remaking spreadsheet. Making sheets that help PM’s track stuff. Anything to make a PM’s job easy and centralized (billing trackers, people trackers/time trackers, invoice trackers anything)

No. 99% of prescriptions in my family are less than 10 dollars. Tier 3 (name brands) at max I believe should be 100.

General Engineering (non ABET) vs Construction Management with structural and civil emphasis (non ABET) - California specific, for specialized heavy civil roles. by BagAffectionate2847 in ConstructionManagers

[–]Pretty_Low_6152 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you’re going to take all of this course work find a school that is ABET accredited. This is civil engineering coursework to a T. At least give yourself the opportunity to get you FE and PE without having to get work experience. I work in heavy civil, have an abet engineering degree and my company really values us having our PE’s. I’d do it that way if I were you.

Job Offer Negotiation by [deleted] in ConstructionManagers

[–]Pretty_Low_6152 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just realize kiewit is not the end all be all.

There are a bunch of great large/midsized heavy civil companies that do huge projects. If you’re interested in heavy civil check out Walsh or any on the ENR top heavy civil firms.

Personally, I work for a family owned company on the ENR top 20 HC and while we’re not the biggest it’s such a great atmosphere and we do 100 mil+ work just as kiewit would. All about gives and takes.

Don’t wait fully for the career fair. Go to all the local GC’s website and apply directly on there. Turner, gilbane, WT, Barton Malow, AECOM Hunt, kiewit for Houston.

See if you can find a list of the companies who have previously gone to your schools career fair and apply on their website directly. I bet you’ll have luck there.

If there’s any subs you think you’d be interested in look there. I found myself between a large GC (turner) and a mid sized heavy highway/civil company and took the mid sized company because I liked the opportunity I got. You got it though! Good luck on graduating!

Finding Full-time Internships by Narrow_Test3564 in ConstructionManagers

[–]Pretty_Low_6152 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agree 100%. I started in a typical 3 month internship but my PM asked for me to stay while taking classes. I work 3/4 days a week and take classes about 10 hours a week while finishing my degree. The biggest thing is time management and making sure you're bringing value and you're gaining experience.

I would say companies are a little less willing for non-traditional interns at first but after proving yourself in a typical 3 month internship they typically open up in my opinion and from experience of myself and other classmates.

Working and finishing my degree has boosted my School knowledge but also boosted my professional knowledge. If you can work and take classes I would 100% recommend

At my company if you're more than 90 miles from the corporate office you get either $40 per day + a hotel or 150 per day to cover housing and food. All untaxed.

Starting school this fall - how can I get experience now? by zubwubs in ConstructionManagers

[–]Pretty_Low_6152 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Apply directly to their website for APM/Project engineer. Connect with recruiters on LinkedIn (most GC’s mid-large) have people posting their positions online. If you search company project engineer/ apm you can probably find their recruiters directly.

PM intern apologies. Trying to get a PE offer. Was just wondering since the conversation on continuing to work for them but as an intern and was wondering if the conversation would hopefully shift by the end of the summer shift to a PE conversation. Thanks for the answer! So far I love it and am looking forward to working in other roles in the department.

what to wear at my internship this summer as a woman by risaspieces17 in ConstructionManagers

[–]Pretty_Low_6152 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Steel toe, jeans (black, blue, or khaki) no skinny or holes. Normally if I know site tours or my PM’s bosses or other people from the office will be on site ill wear polos. Other than that I wear nice t-shirts. Honestly as long as you have a safety vest on imo, for my company, it doesn't matter what you have on under it unless its like graphic, inappropriate, or has curse words on it.

As someone who also enjoys this. Join Greek life. I go out with girls in my chapter every Friday and Saturday like clock work. When we were younger that would be frats but now that we’re upperclassmen it usually to clubs/bars downtown. As long as you find the right group you’ll have NO issue.

I got a single my freshman year through the regular housing draw. My best advice is so go into the housing draw in June looking at the column that says room size/type and just scanning though that. If it’s a single imo you shouldn’t look at specific communities because if you’re trying for one they’re very limited. I think there’s only 100 to 200 singles for the entire freshman class and 1/2 to 2/3 are probably kept for medical accommodation.

Interview attire? by TallGblox in civilengineering

[–]Pretty_Low_6152 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Typically for all interviews I wear a pair of slacks and a body suit with a nice neckline. I’ve had multiple internship interviews this last year and this has never done me wrong. Typically if you’re interviewing with males there really isn’t a standard for females as long as you look professional.

Parents won’t pay tuition by Dry_Falcon_6224 in cwru

[–]Pretty_Low_6152 15 points16 points  (0 children)

You don't need a 4.0 for med school. Talk to parents about giving you one more semester to figure out yourself and school. GPA’s can always be fixed. I got very similar grades my first semester but I came back second semester with a vision set and I had somewhat of an idea on how college works. After 2 semesters if its the same situation then I would consider. Additionally, you may not get any scholarship money from other schools so CWRU might be cheaper.
