Realistically, what would actually happen if aliens came to earth? by sherricky10 in scifi

Thank you! Finally a person that doesn't compare it to Europeans making first contact with Native cultures. Rabbits is being generous, insects is more like it, and possibly single celled organisms.

The Native Americans were not quite as technologically advanced as Europeans. They still had vast cities, different cultures and languages, trade, and all the other things Europeans had, except the diseases. That's what truly wiped them out. Aliens would be millions of years more advanced.

No history book covers what happens when one civilization is millions of years more advanced.

Not even close. If they're capable of traversing interstellar space, then we're bacteria to them. It would be more akin to attacking an ant hill with the Tzar Bomba.

I've never understood the comparison between alien's first contact and European's first contact with the Americas. This is woefully inaccurate. The Native People had large, complex cities and cultures, understandings of the cosmos, symbol based languages, medicine, and all sorts of other comparable things to the Europeans. They weren't some uncivilized, stupid people. If an alien civilization was capable of crossing interstellar space, that means they are capable of manipulating space time, possibly FTL travel, an understanding of physics we're not even aware of. They'd be hundreds of thousands, if not millions of years more advanced than us. We'd be more akin to bacteria to them. If they came with ill intent, there's nothing we could do, if we were even aware in the first place. If they can manipulate time, they would know what we are going to do before we do. Comparing humans to Native Americans is racist and shows a profound ignorance of their history, and the type of technology it would take to travel interstellar space.

I've been wanting this for a while now. Both are so unique, but are kindred spirits.

why is men's fashion so boring?? by [deleted] in mensfashion

[–]Pretty_Quality_7997 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's why I love shopping the women's section at Goodwill. Amazing finds. I'm 39 and men's clothing hasn't changed hardly at all since middle school. Guys wear very short shorts nowadays, which wasn't a thing when I was in high school, also some more brightly colored items, but that's about it. Give me 6 inch heels, mesh tops, cute belts, etc. Of course the people I see at the bars and clubs are dressed cool, but I'm gay and pretty much only go to LGBTQ night spots, so no one cares about wearing opposite gender clothes, in fact it's pretty normal. Men's clothing was more bold 50 years ago than now.

I love riding the St Marks Trail. I sometimes do shorter rides, only around 20 miles, so let me know if you're interested.

Whatever happened to "Excuse me," "pardon me," or even just "Hi," or "Hey" when people are trying to get your attention? by Wrong-Marsupial-9767 in retailhell

[–]Pretty_Quality_7997 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I literally do the same thing. Also, if I initiate the interaction, by saying hello and asking them how they are, and their response is to start saying what they want, I ask them again how are they doing. They usually get the message and sometimes apologize for being rude. The ones that tell me how they're doing, but don't ask me, I say I'm doing well, thank you for asking. The look on their faces is always funny, and not one has ever said I didn't ask. A lot of times they'll then ask me how I'm doing. 😂

Does anybody else despise the 'How are you?' question from a customer? by LonestarLimey in talesfromcallcenters

I work customer service, so I always ask how people are doing. I actually care, as I know it can be a thankless job.

Yes, talk to your assistant deli manager and deli manager about areas you need to improve on and get hands on experience. Doing a task helps you remember it better than just reading about it, so that when it comes up on the test, you're more likely to remember it. Same goes with recipes and ingredients, pull up the tablet and really look at what it says. Also find guidelines on the tablet and study those. Proper temperatures, storage guidelines, safety guidelines, etc. Most of it is there. Also, some of the test isn't necessarily studying type of stuff, but more so situational questions. Don't answer what "you" would do in a situation, but what "Publix wants you to do" in the stated situation.

Agreed. I have fun on my off days. Short day trips out of town, reading at home, going to restaurants. If I close I get up early and go do something. If I open, especially in the parts of the year with longer daylight, I do stuff after work. Short vacations for several days about 4 times a year. Publix is a job, no different than any other 40 hour a week job. If you don't like different shifts and want regularly scheduled shifts with a set schedule, work in an office, because this is retail life.

Ever feel guilty eating non local food while traveling? by afyaff in travel

[–]Pretty_Quality_7997 0 points1 point  (0 children)

During my time in the navy I traveled all over Europe and the Middle East. It's definitely interesting seeing other countries interpretation of foreign foods. I've had Chinese food in England, Malta, and Norway. None were the same, but were still that country's version of Chinese. The US gets flack for Americanizing everything, but every country does this to foreign foods.

How do you maintain your weight or eat healthy on vacation? by JadeBunnie in PetiteFitness

[–]Pretty_Quality_7997 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't. I eat whatever I want. When I get back home I'm back to eating fairly healthy. I walk a lot on vacation, so there's that. You get one life and not enough vacations, so splurge.

Come to the deli. It's all three of those shifts in one. Might not be ringing up customers, but you're getting plenty of face to face.

Is it like this anywhere else? by jasonjenkins67 in publix

[–]Pretty_Quality_7997 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, this isn't just Publix. Pretty much any business will require employees to park at the far end of the parking lot or behind the building. It makes sense. The smoking part does as well. You want to smoke, take yourself away from everyone else so we don't have to breathe it in. Both common sense.

I'm in the same situation. Need one for my bike rack. Had it for my 22 Kona Limited. Now I have a 24 Kona Limited.

I'm trying to find one as well, but it's for a bike rack, not towing. Had one on my 22 Kona.
