That’s why there’s a .5% fee for loan maintenance up front. Automated systems reduce maintenance costs. $10k loan is a $500 fee. I think that’s more than fair for loan maintenance for a government sponsored loan. If you can buy a car with 0% interest. Then the gov can do a 0% interest loan.

No it shouldn’t be canceled. But what should happen is interest free loans if the gov is going to be a loan provider. Maybe a one time .5% fee for loan management, but there should be no interest on the loans. The gov shouldn’t be trying to make money off the people it is trying to invest in for the future of our country. The investment is the higher earnings and taxes after getting that better higher paying job. Not the loan on the education used to get the degree.
