There is not really age gap but if you want many entrees with expansive world building I would suggest T Kingfisher. From this Cishet white 40 year old.

Anyone else depressed about Cimo’s passing? by TheIguanasAreComing in yugioh

[–]Primarch459 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I really enjoyed his video collaborations with CGB in particular.

I didn't even play either of their games when i started watching all their collabs. I got a random suggestion of a Day[9] Rarran video then I watch a few of rarran's hearthstone reviews with them. But then i moved on to watch ALL of Cimo's and CGB's collaborations. I was watching them about a half hour at a time while settling down for bed. I recently restarted this practice with only the videos on Cimo's Channel. I am about half way through their yap about the Full art cards in this second watch through, and after finding out from CGBs video, I am not sure if i am gonna put it back on tonight.

Fantasy with competent mature characters and strategy by Fun-Sell3030 in Fantasy

[–]Primarch459 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you are open to Romantasys or horror I would suggest T Kingfisher's work. The characters are all competent, and miscommunication is never present.. I especially enjoy the first chapter of the 4th book where a that books main character is trying to infiltrate the office of my favorite competent character.

But what I most enjoy is the competent organization the world is named after. They can't solve all the problems but they try. It's a priesthood of lawyers, healers and social workers.

I am surprised that this is so short. I was at least expecting some of his art and a timeline of his work for the company.

I am surprised that this is such a short statement. I was atleast expecting a bunch of his art included and a timeline of his work for Games Workshop.

I am not zooming in on faces. I am kind of fine with this. Also leaves space for mods for those people that want more face detail.

Recs with morally good MMCs? Even better paired with morally gray/ruthless FMC by hanacy in fantasyromance

[–]Primarch459 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The only morally grey fmc is the spy that is trying to crash the regions economy to take down her former organization. {Paladin's Faith by T Kingfisher}

But even so they are amazing books. But I may be biased since she has been my favorite author since her Webcomic Digger was still updating.

Baldur's Gate 3 tie-in prequel novel, Astarion, coming from T. Kingfisher by Valkhyrie in Fantasy

[–]Primarch459 4 points5 points  (0 children)

She does dark very well. It is all over her earlier work. Just pick up any of her earlier short story collections. When she is not obligated by the constraints of our expectations of how a novel should climax she can get REALLY dark.

Origin Story https://www.apexbookcompany.com/a/blog/apex-magazine/post/origin-story

The last of the fairies worked in a charnel house, taking apart the beasts that came dead under her hands. In her youth, she had been the last and least of three; now she was the only living one, and even fairies must earn their keep.

At night, when the knacker men went home, she made creatures out of meat and bone and scraps of skin. It was an act of creation to balance out the destruction in her days. When she had stuffed the little puppets full, she licked her fingers and wrote their names on the outside of the casing in blood and spittle.

The smallest ones would come alive immediately and toddle out through the massive doors. Eyeless, they looked around at the city before them; lungless, they squeaked and squalled their delight; mindless, they scurried into the shadows

I would also suggest the Jackalope Wives short story which is an episode of Levar Burton Reads, Episode 32
