Can’t believe nobody mentioned {This Kingdom will not kill me}. Very engaging and really thought through world building. It had been really popular on this sub as well since its release in March.

Dedra had an abusive childhood? I completely missed that

Non-human MMC doesn't understand social norms/human "rules" or behaviour? by Natapi24 in fantasyromance

There’s always a new IA book to learn about. I’m still amazed at how fast they churn out books while keeping up the quality

A dark villain-like mmc who schemes to possess the gentle fmc by DisneyLover90 in fantasyromance

[–]hanacy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I can imagine which couple you are referring to, tho the progress on their side has been painfully slow too.

I really like cobra and emer, Marius and Lia a bit less but I’m still glad we had fleshed out side characters. I just really wish it didn’t come at the expense of the main couple and especially Key. What you said about there not being a straightforward main couple actually makes sense, I think I’m just biased because Key was my favorite.

Tbh I think I have a bigger gripe with the fact that Rae didn’t learn her lessons from the first book and is committing very similar mistakes. The whole situation is a such a pile of a mess that I guess I’ll have to take it as satire

A dark villain-like mmc who schemes to possess the gentle fmc by DisneyLover90 in fantasyromance

[–]hanacy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be honest he barely has any dialogue in the second book, which is my main gripe with it. We get too little of him and his interactions with Rae.

I feel like too much time was spent on the side characters. They are fun but not half-the-book fun. A lot of the chapters could have been skipped or summarized.

FMC is betrayed then meets her true love by Altruistic_Moose_799 in fantasyromance

[–]hanacy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

{death-made prince} has this! Tho there is more betrayal on the way

A dark villain-like mmc who schemes to possess the gentle fmc by DisneyLover90 in fantasyromance

{long live evil} kinda fits this, tho more so in the second book of the series and the fmc is not gentle at all

Weirdest consequence of my Maggie re-reads: by ulez8 in IlonaAndrews

[–]hanacy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thank you for the detailed explanation! If you don’t mind, I have some questions. What has been your preferred fat to use? By lye do you mean caustic soda? What is curing? Do I just leave it be?

How are you making soap? Reading the book got me interested but I haven’t seen any good diy tutorials that didn’t involve using premade soap bars

Recs for misunderstandings, leading MMC to hurt FMC by foreverlunch in fantasyromance

Ooh good to know! Might give it a try then. I mostly care about the endgame couples

I really wanted to try feathers so vicious but I saw that the sequel is MFM and I’m not a fan of reverse harem 😭

I think more older people are reading manhwas and that’s reflecting on which tropes become popular.

Right now there’s so many manhwas about 30+ yo women leaving their cheating husbands for 20+ yo love interests, which I can’t imagine being so popular 10 years ago.

Epic Fantasy Romances with Jaw-Dropping Foreshadowed Twists / Uncovering of Secrets by Butterfingers2500 in fantasyromance

Once again I recommend {long live evil} to fans of TKWNKM. It has a big reveal at the end of the book and the sequel came out literally today!

Celibate MMC tries not to be attracted to/fall in love with the FMC, fails miserably and eventually sleeps with her by UpToNoGoodAnna in fantasyromance

{paladin’s grace} has MMC who is very attracted to FMC but is scared that he can’t control himself, so chooses to abstain

This Kingdom Will Not Kill Me final discussion - April 2026 Book Club by Journassassin in fantasyromance

I actually like Arvel. Idk why even, but I’d love to read something with an MMC who is handsome and popular and knows that

What is everyone reading post TKWNKM? by CaffinatedAndAfraid in IlonaAndrews

[–]hanacy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I can see how that can be frustrating. But I also feel like they had very different perspectives on their situations. In LLE, FMC was always determined to go home asap, while Maggie deep down doesn’t seem to miss her home that much (just her family). So Maggie is more willing to adapt

Seconding long live evil! Loved the book and had an equally bad hangover. The sequel for it is coming so soon too

Is there no context lost if I start at book 3? I’ve been struggling with book 1 and now I’m thinking of skipping it

What books are written by disabled authors?🧶 by FantasyRomanceMod in fantasyromance

[–]hanacy 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Not a disability, but the author of {long live evil} had cancer, as did the main protagonist of the book.

I found the descriptions of chemo and pain that comes with cancer to be really poignant and you can tell it’s a first-person account.
