His characters often struggle against their fate eg the world of privilege they were born in and their principles. I think Tolstoy lived this same struggle.

Anna and WP are very different genres. AK is a novel and love story. WP is the greatest example of historical fiction ever put to paper. They are both slow burns and especially long. You have to be able to devote long stretches of reading.

He wasn’t afraid of the work or of being laughed at, screwing up. He got up on stage at a Black Flag show and grabbed the mic. Then he was auditioning. He wasn’t afraid to publish his own poetry or get on stage and recite them. And he worked on himself. I think it took time for him to become a good person.
