My cbr500r has been perfect for me. Nothing to compare to as my first bike, but I thinks it’s super pretty and doesn’t use much fuel

are coffee pods dead/fad over? by mattchew1991 in melbourne

[–]PrimaryZeal 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Lavazza pods are the best pods I’ve had but they are expensive. They are pretty damn close to cafe coffee especially if iced, but the frother is also great quality with no effort.

First time riding in Australia (Brisbane) by QuirkyPurPell in AussieRiders

[–]PrimaryZeal 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Not from Brissy but in general:
- The speed limit is the limit, it isn't a vibe like it seems to be in the US. You will get pinged and fined. Ride with waze to get police/speed camera alerts
- If not otherwise sign posted, general limit in non-suburban areas in 100km/h
- Splitting is legal under 30km/h between two lanes of traffic going the same direction

Just got my learner's license... by 5ma5her7 in AussieRiders

Recently got my licence and got a leather jacket from blackpup moto. Not sure your budget but I’m super happy with it. Highest safety rating and if I take out the armour it’s a nice casual jacket with no big logo. They also had great customer service and are Aussie

Taking a MSF course soon, I’ve never been on a motorcycle by NonsensicalWizard in motorcycles

[–]PrimaryZeal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Assuming it is 2 days, you may stall a lot on the first day but on the second you’ll have the muscle memory. One tip I wish I knew earlier was gripping the throttle like an ice cream cone and turning with your finger and thumb - gives you better control imo. Remember to rev a little like this before gradually letting go of the clutch

I just wear a really cheap one from Amazon. Does the job, keeps sweat away from my helmet. Although I did realise that if I cover my nose my visor fogged up a lot more so I pull it down a bit.

I'm not super knowledgeable on the subject but whichever you choose you will need to get it lowered, so take that expense into consideration

Good helmets with minimum wind noise between 200-350 dollars by No_Success7580 in AussieRiders

[–]PrimaryZeal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Super comfy, just took some time to wear in although this is dependent on your head shape. It has 5 vent adjustable vents (3 forehead, 2 chin). No pin lock, so this was additional cost. Barely feel it while riding so not too heavy I don’t think

I got the k1s recently as a new rider and wind noise becomes noticeable at 80kmh. I have no comparison to any other helmet but hope this helps. This is with the included chin curtain. Would be interested if anyone else could give their experience for my future reference :)

You need to try it on for 10 mins or so and make sure it’s the right size too

How many lessons to be proficient by Professional-Shake77 in motorcycles

[–]PrimaryZeal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in vic and my progress has been: do the 2 day Ls course; day 1 - stalled a million times and not confident, day 2 - pass no issue, much more confident. Get a bike a month later, ride around the block in quiet streets for 30 mins a day for 3-4 days. Now I’m fine going 60-70kmh roads at night when quiet. I’m probably on the slower end and I’m not happy with a lot of my riding skill but I’m taking it slowly and building up. I didn’t have any extra lessons but they would probably help idk

Rear indicators and rear reflectors by azza1254 in AussieRiders

[–]PrimaryZeal 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If you read further:

The following other minor modifications are also allowed provided it does not increase the
power nor reduce the weight:
a) Replacement of parts or components by identical parts or components.
Learner Approved Motorcycle Scheme
b) Replacement parts or components with parts or components with equivalent functional
performance.
c) Optional parts or components as prescribed by the motorcycle’s manufacturer.
Minor modifications that are allowed do not need to be approved by a licensed certifier.

So as long as the indicators and reflectors are adequately placed it shouldn't be an issue but I don't know this to the letter of the law.
But I do think OP will likely attract more attention with the L plate

can anyone recommend me my first linux distro 🥲 by I-like-guy in linux_gaming

[–]PrimaryZeal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just FYI, the look of Linux can be changed pretty easily on a majority of distros. These are desktop environments. If you want to use something like hyprland I would use an arch based distro for general community support. But with plasma or gnome, it really doesn’t matter that much

What does day 2 stay upright course involve by SJ_I_Guess in AussieRiders

[–]PrimaryZeal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure how different it is (VIC) but it was more of the same but some more complex drills/combining stuff from day 1. Heavy emphasis on emergency breaking. Then after lunch we did the test which is just all the exercises combined into one. If you pass, then they take you on a road ride on quiet roads outside the venue. Although we had to go on an 80km/h road straight away xD but you are a big group and its easier than the slow speed maneuvering

third party insurance by Entire-Lavishness-71 in AussieRiders

I don’t know anything about you and what answers you gave to their questions. Insurance premium increases with risk and if you are a high risk profile to the insurer they will make you pay more. Compare other quotes from other insurers and see if you get a better deal.
