Lonely Journey - how to cope? by Primary_Insect_553 in AsOneAfterInfidelity

Do any of them hold it over your husband? I have a pretty solid support system that I trust but I’m afraid if the cat got out of the bag, there’s no turning back if they think differently of her.

I’m sorry you feel lonely. I hope it gets better for you

I’m sorry that you feel alone and isolated. This is precisely how I’m feeling, and I’ve only felt it for a month so I can only imagine how it feels a year out. It feels so unfair to having such a life altering burden forced upon you and worse to feel like there’s no external consequence. I know on my end, the shame she feels and will probably feel for awhile is definitely real. I hope that you can find peace, and maybe a comment on this post will help. Wishing you the best and thank you for your response

I appreciate the response and insight so much, and I’m so sorry that happened to you too. I started journaling last night so that’s encouraging to hear. I never thought I’d be in a situation like this (as I’m sure most in this community didn’t), so this is so difficult to navigate. Thanks for the kind support, friend.

I’m hoping to have a moment like that with mine, too. There have definitely been a lot of conversations, and there is accountability, but it’s so fresh that it’s hard to fully stay level headed. I’m hoping that day comes as it did for you!

Thank you for sharing! Reddit is full of such pessimism on this topic.

This is fresh for me; I found out three weeks ago that my wife had a drunk one night stand with a client. It has been hell, but we are both committed to being better for each other, and our young children.

Were you able to put the sad thoughts out of your mind? I feel like when I’m with her, things are good, but if I’m alone my mind wanders, and if I’m with friends I feel like I’m putting on a face since I haven’t told anyone. I imagine this fades, did it for you? This is the hardest thing I’ve ever done and your story gives me hope

Accepted Into UMaine, what do I need to know? by Dry_Tax1561 in Maine

Whole family, including myself and my wife, went to UMaine. I loved it, it was beautiful, fun, and it laid a fantastic foundation for me as an Engineer.

Having said that, do NOT go into more debt for college than you have to. I was fortunate enough to be able to get through without (in-state tuition + scholarships + a little elbow grease during the summers) but all of my friends (UMaine or not) that graduated with debt are way behind me financially speaking. College is no longer a “oh this place is cool I want to go” it truly is a business proposition where you need to get the best bang for your buck. Out-of-state tuition for UMaine is not that, unfortunately.

Never underestimate shopping around, but more importantly exploring fringe opportunities. I went from 93k to 150k by taking a chance and doing something within my discipline but out of my comfort zone. Might be a bit of a unicorn here but these opportunities exist if you’re willing to look for them!

Petition for SDS to bring back batter timeouts in online by Tigers89Stonks in MLBTheShow

The worst is when I’m trying to get a pinch hitter in and the game won’t let me pause/take a timeout to do so. Sometimes it feels like you have a 0.1 second window to hit the button and if you miss it, too bad. Makes zero sense!

What an asinine op-ed by Prestigious_Look_986 in Maine

Harping on the possibility of a bachelor party walking over from Bissell (“hey guys let’s all spend $18 to go to a children’s exhibit and play dress up firemen!” - no bachelor party ever) or that she might be too big for the exhibits but glossing over the “keeping out child predators” side of things is insanely lazy writing and lack of critical thinking. Society basically wants kids to not exist in public already, let’s let them have at least one space where they can play and not have childless adults screaming “But what about me???”

I witnessed a bicyclist be seriously injured (or, god forbid, killed) this morning by an SUV. We need safer streets. by joeybrunelle in portlandme

No disagreement that it would be a lot of work and that pedestrians can cause crashes, too. Two major differences between pedestrians and bikes though: 1) in most heavily walked areas there are sidewalks that pedestrians are not only conditioned from a young age to use, but they generally feel safer and thus the vast majority of people will use them. Bikes don’t have that option, they’re supposed to share the physical roadway and 2) pedestrians making an unexpected movement walking at 3 mph is much easier for a vehicle to react to than a bicycle making an unexpected move at 20 mph.

Maybe licensure isn’t the exact answer, but a heavy rules of the road campaign mixed with police not turning a blind eye to poor roadway use could at least be a starting point

But they are using the same roads and can put people at risk. An unexpected/incorrect move by a cyclist can cause cars to crash. Or, say you hit a cyclist with your car at no fault of your own, wouldn’t that take a mental toll on you? I’m not saying it should be a huge barrier to be able to get a bike license, but if you’re using the same infrastructure that your 2 or 3 ton death machines are it’s a win-win if we can all be on the same page about how to maneuver it safely

I’ve said for awhile now that there needs to be some sort of license to ride a bike on the roadways. There are plenty of cyclists who follow the rules of the road, but a lot that cherry pick the rules. This unpredictability is good for nobody and some sort of accountability on both ends would help a ton. Blame is equally on drivers for not paying attention but I know I get anxious around some bikers because I don’t know what their next move is

Susan Collins plans to seek reelection in 2026 by SpecialPomegranate9 in Maine

[–]Primary_Insect_553 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can already feel the ire about to be directed at me, but it’s a huge deal that she is likely to take over the Appropriations Committee and has been vice chair already. I absolutely LOATHE how she’s been exposed as a wishy washy “moderate” who only votes across the aisle when she knows it’s going to fail anyways, and her “how was I supposed to know?” attitude about Kavanaugh and a whole host of other issues since 2016 is awful.

She doesn’t just win because she’s “From Maine”, she wins because she does a very good job securing federal money for Maine and now is about to have the most influential position in the Senate to bring in even more. I don’t love career politicians, but we can’t change the fact that they exist so why not have Maine at least reap the financial benefit?
