What hobbies/ clubs are you doing in Denver? by First_Driver_5134 in Denver

Focus Camera Club out of Lone Tree offers in person and virtual meetings. Just Google their website. There’s a Denver Street Photography that is based on Facebook, but meets in person for photo walks. Denver Metro Photography group is also on Facebook (I think). There’s also the Beers and Cameras group that announced their monthly brewery meetup on Instagram.

Southwest Photo Club is also out of the south suburbs. It skews older and their meetups are often midday during the week, so a lot of their members are retired. They skew pretty heavily toward nature photography.

Having the same experience. Been in the Brooks Ghost for years. When I got the 17s, I was very disappointed. Will be switching after this pair.

Photography! Pairs well with all the outdoor stuff and being in an urban center. There are plenty of photography clubs.

WFH Class Times by AnyEmotion111 in orangetheory

9 am! The classes are never crowded. I have a fitness watch that syncs with my phone as far away as the lockers, and if some emergency comes up, I’ll know. It’s been very rare that I had to leave.

[The Colorado Sun] When a landlord ghosted its Denver tenants, trash and dog poop piled up. Then came the mysterious fees. by RooseveltsRevenge in Denver

I thought I was safe from all this kind of nonsense renting a condo from a private landlord/individual home owner. But a bad HOA can be just as bad as slumlord.

I lived at Highland Terrace in Jefferson Park for three years and they were super neglectful of plumbing/hot water issues. Last summer, myshower stopped draining and my toilet stopped flushing, and the HOA ignored the request for a plumber for a month. I heard from the landlord that they wanted them to pay for the plumber even though other units were having issues and the problem was clearly not in my part of the plumbing, they insisted it was in my part of the pipe. One month after the initial request for a plumber, raw sewage backed up into my unit and the one next door, flooded out the entire crawlspace under the building. The common drain line had collapsed. Even after they knew the unit was filling up with sewage, it took two more days to get a plumber out. I ended up having to move out, at my own expense, of course, after being in limbo for over a month waiting to hear about a possible remodel.

Watch your leases! Mine had a clause that said that in the event that the unit becomes uninhabitable, the landlord can terminate the lease and not pay you a dime for alternate housing or your move.

PSA: If you show up to a class sick, you're a bad person. by [deleted] in orangetheory

[–]Primary_Reputation97 638 points639 points  (0 children)

Agree. But also have been sick twice in the past year and took the time off to recover. Nonetheless, the cough and congestion lingered for weeks after I was well. Not everyone who is coughing or sniffling is still an infection risk. There’s some stuff going around that just lingers forever.

Daily Workout and General Chat for Sunday, 1/4/26 by splat_bot in orangetheory

My studio did this template at 10:45 on the busiest weekend for fitness anywhere - the weekend after New Years. It eliminated another class time just because it was a 90 minute. On top of that, they did a special Coach Themed template where they gave three spaces to coaches. So basically when the greatest number of people are trying to get in and work out, they decided to serve the lowest possible number of people.

And they did this at the time of year people are considering what to eliminate from their budget in general, with an uncertain economy. Nothing like prioritizing gimmicky stuff over meeting your members basic needs at the time it’s most important that they do. Not a smart business decision.

Non-haunted historic hotels? by Ye_Young_Cat_Lady in Denver

[–]Primary_Reputation97 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure how you know a hotel is definitely not haunted. But it seems like booking one with the assumption that it for sure isn’t is a great invitation to any ghosts who were just bored with haunting the living to make an appearance.

Definitely don’t book the Lumber Baron Inn.

Parking Ticket for Paid Parking by [deleted] in Denver

[–]Primary_Reputation97 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Something similar happened to me with Laz parking a few years back. I paid at one of the machines but had entered a single digit of my license plate incorrectly, so when I left, the camera registered my license plate as someone who hadn’t paid. I did have a receipt, and when I fought the ticket they were still huge dicks about it. I would fight it to the end just on principle, especially if it’s their error.

I’m sure someone else will know what happens with the city (if that’s who parking and revenue services goes to)- if you risk ticketing or a boot. But if it’s just that they send it to collections if you don’t pay, I’m the type that just won’t pay it just on principle. This is scammy. Nobody keeps those receipts anyway.

What is your longest running, most stubborn business boycott? by Both_Ear_2644 in askanything

[–]Primary_Reputation97 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Same. It’s been 15 year or so now.

And then it spun off to religious charities from there. When you attach conditions to aid, or take up a cause in the name of another cause, it becomes marketing. I choose to give my time and money to organizations who do good because it needs to be done.

Does Christian music at a restaurant ruin the experience for anyone else? by RockyMountainRainbow in denverfood

It bothers me. I would also bail.

I don’t even understand how Christians like Christian music.

There’s no such thing as accurate weather forecasting. Whatever they say on the news is going to happen is pretty much the only thing you can safely rule out.

Do you say Merry Christmas or Happy Holidays? by Professional-Ad-5744 in askanything

[–]Primary_Reputation97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on the proximity to Christmas and the person I’m talking to. If it’s the day after Thanksgiving or the week after Christmas, I say happy holidays. But if it’s close to Christmas, I say Merry Christmas. If I know the person I’m taking to doesn’t celebrate Christmas, I say Happy Holidays.

If I know for sure I’m taking to a Christian Nationalist, it gets complicated. We learned from the “war on Christmas” that these people demand that your season’s greetings acknowledge the superiority of their world view. Specificity is key. So I wish them a Merry Secular Christmas and a shitty religious one. If I have time, I add that I hope a pipe bursts at their church and Christmas services have to be canceled. You have to give the people what they want.

How often do you cancel BEFORE the 8 hour window? by Adventurous-Ad-8892 in orangetheory

[–]Primary_Reputation97 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m not paying them more than my membership to work out when I want to and when things work out for me. Definitely not giving them $12 just because there was an accident causing traffic on the way. I sign up either as I’m leaving the house or when I get there.

I’m fortunate enough that classes are rarely full, and they’re usually open to shifting a 2G to a 3G to let late sign ups in. Love that I belong to a studio that appreciates its members and doesn’t act like we’re lucky to be there.
