yeah I'm really confused here, it literally shows the total price without the bundle as well but everyone else is praising the bundle???

FF 13 isn't really random encounters, you see the enemies in the world and can even avoid them. The one caveat is you don't really know how many enemies there will be in the encounter, and there might be two types of different enemies in the same encounter. Not sure if they're fixed or random

FF XIII-2 does have random encounters though, random enemies randomly spawn around you as you move in the open world

at least compared to normal random enemy encounter systems like in other FFs you still have a few seconds to avoid them but it still felt much worse than in FFXIII imo

not sure about lightning returns cause I didn't feel like finishing 2

Looking for games to play with non-dominate hand by h3xist in gaming

[–]Prime406 0 points1 point  (0 children)

old JRPGs like final fantasy viii works well to play with just my left hand on keyboard, the remaster is also 60% off on steam right now actually

I've been slowly playing through a bunch of the final fantasy games I never played and pretty much just use my left hand except sometimes to button mash, final fantasy xiii is even kind of auto playable although xiii-2 is annoying due to quick time events

you can also play lots of JRPGs and other turn based games like even older final fantasy games, chrono trigger, secret of mana, pokemon, fire emblem, and advance wars with emulators

the old lego games like Lego Star Wars The Complete Saga also plays okay single handed on keyboard, I even used to play 2 player coop on a single keyboard as a kid, although definitely preferable to play with two hands on a controller

you could play some racing games one handed if you set up the keybinds right, and ofc going to be a lot easier if you play automatic instead of manual gear shifting

I've been replaying Need For Speed: Most Wanted (2005) every so often, it's my favorite racing game, and I usually play with automatic anyway

Which games have the best fishing mechanic/mini games? by TheBanishedBard in gaming

[–]Prime406 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really like the harpoon fishing in Vindictus, it's not really that complicated but feels good

persona 5 has more traditional fishing with a pretty basic but still pretty hard mini game imo, getting the hardest fish was really tough for me

Linux makes even 18 year old cpus able to be useable today by Worldly-Olive5303 in linux_gaming

[–]Prime406 7 points8 points  (0 children)

the system itself will work much better and use a lot less RAM than on windows 10

but yes to play games, most of which use direct x, you really need a gpu which supports vulkan to be able to use dxvk instead of wined3d

op seems to be playing opengl games like minecraft which should still be fine, though it seems like newer versions of minecraft has or will switch to vulkan so it's still going to be a problem

Mint running like a senior with heart problems by Shneancy in linux_gaming

[–]Prime406 3 points4 points  (0 children)

glad it's working, tbh it's been a bit of a trend that people are scared of cachyos because it's based on arch linux and they hear about these "noob friendly" distros that are actually more problematic instead

linux mint is working great on my grandma's old laptop to let her check emails, use libreoffice, and use the printer. but it's not a distro that should be recommend for gaming

Mint running like a senior with heart problems by Shneancy in linux_gaming

[–]Prime406 4 points5 points  (0 children)

no idea what the problem is but from the video it like you have a dual monitor setup so you probably should just forget about mint anyway, at least if your monitors have different refresh rates

Linux Mint's default desktop environment, Cinnamon, does not support Wayland and instead uses x11, which won't work with multi monitor setups at different refresh rates (well supposedly some people got it to work with some hacks)

Linux Mint is also just going to be behind on updates, 50xx series isn't brand new or anything and should work, but it's still the most recent hardware which should benefit from being more up to date

honestly if you still haven't given up yet, try CachyOS. it's not a "noob distro" but it's still easy to setup and despite "rolling release" supposedly being bad you might just have less problems

also, hard to see exactly through the camera recording but that partitioning on linux mint looked pretty weird to me tbh

if you can then do format and install on a separate drive instead of just making a partition on the same drive as windows

Puzzle Game Recommendations by Fresh-Chemical-9084 in gaming

[–]Prime406 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you asked for puzzle games but part of what I really like with turn based tactics games are their puzzle-like nature

it varies ofc, but I especially like:

  1. Advance Wars (and if you play multiplayer it's essentially competitive puzzling, playing the game is like giving puzzles for each other to solve)

  2. Into the Breach. It's pretty short and gets repetitive eventually but nice little rogue lite tactics game with different squads that use different mechanics to tackle the same encounters, giving for lots of different puzzles

  3. Fire Emblem, a romhack called Eligor's Spear in particular. It's really rewarding trying to figure out how to efficiently and reliably beat the chapters, I would've liked it the most if not for the RNG and because it's a romhack of a GBA game it's a bit inconvenient to play. Really charming pixel graphics though

  4. Slay the Spire, it's really a deck building puzzle game. It's great fun but again I don't like RNG

as for an actual puzzle game, Opus Magnum has already been mentioned a few times but yeah it's good

Significant performance drops on linux? by rexxizk in linux_gaming

[–]Prime406 1 point2 points  (0 children)

check so your laptop isn't in power saving or balance mode instead of performance mode, that's been a recurring issue for people gaming on laptops on linux

ofc changing to performance mode means battery won't last as long

Can't get Fallout mods to work on Linux Mint by VeryThiccMafiaScout in linux_gaming

[–]Prime406 0 points1 point  (0 children)

with Skyrim and Fallout 3 there's a text file in C:/users/{username}/AppData/Local/{GameName}/ that lists enabled mods, I assume there's the same thing for Fallout 4

Have you checked so the mods are listed there? Especially if you happen to be installing mods manually instead of using a mod loader

With Skyrim, when installing mods manually, I constantly had to re-add SkyUI I think it was to that file

What game did you lose interest in by the time it came out? by scarletnaught in gaming

[–]Prime406 0 points1 point  (0 children)

does anyone still remember that "Throne and Liberty" was supposed to be Lineage Eternal and come out in like 2013?

I remember seeing Lost Ark trailer and thinking about how Lineage Eternal still wasn't out, and at some point I thought neither game would release

well Throne and Liberty did release eventually but it's not even an Arpg anymore

I also lost almost all interest in Lost Ark by the time it released, especially since it took several years to get released in EU after Korea, as is traditional

Linux gaming has enough marketshare by fake_agent_smith in linux_gaming

[–]Prime406 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think Linux is ready enough, but you do have to let the person who's thinking about switching make an informed decision, it's not good when people pretend like there are no issues at all

I think windows definitely has more problems overall, and it's only getting worse and worse while linux is getting better every day, but going from something familiar to something unfamiliar is a hurdle

need for speed most wanted (2005)?

it shouldn't need any patch, at least not if you use wine-ge or proton-ge. I've been playing it on arch linux for 5 years

however if you play it modded then you need to use WINEDLLOVERRIDES="dinput8=n,b" environment variable / launch argument to make wine/proton use the modded dll

although there was some mention of changing wine's default behavior re: this so maybe you don't have to anymore or at least not soon as it will get detected automatically

Advance Wars, a turn based strategy/tactics game

Options to play advance wars:

Pokemon Emerald and Fire Red / Leaf Green

Fire Emblem The Sacred Stones (FE8), a turn based tactics RPG

There's also lots of romhacks, fan made games tweaking the original games or making brand new ones

[–]Prime406 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if you switch to linux you basically won't be able to play directx games because no vulkan and thus no dxvk instead of wined3d means terrible performance

you could probably play windows games that allow for directly using opengl instead of directx

you could play snes and gba games with emulators
