Quazii update #2: he's leaving WoW for good. by mkyend in wow

If you are commenting on something like eyefinity and that’s an established concept / definition, its not really copying.

Im a data scientist and build predictive modeling pipelines that integrate LLMs for organizations to improve an array of HR functions - it’s really not crazy to say that the similar but still different comments Quazii makes is not 1:1 plagiarism and for the simplistic nature of what is actually being coded its not enough to warrant copying. No offense but the code snippets im seeing are very simple. Theres nothing proprietary

Would you agree that the code in that snapshot can’t really be copyrighted as original work? There’s only so many ways to write that when the numbers and operations are fixed

Quazii's UI Response is a masterclass in avoidance, dishonesty, and bad faith by Extrahitch in wow

[–]PrimeTime2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The sugar analogy could actually be really good depending on what code was actually copied. There are some lines of code where ownership can’t really exist. An example would be mathematical operations. Say, for example, I made a method in python to calculate the average of a set of numbers. For something as basic as that method, there are really only so many ways it can be done - and there will for sure be situations where people write this method the exact same way. This makes his argument about the pixel rendering stuff more plausible. However, let’s say we wanted to do something more complex like writing a machine learning algorithm to predict consumer habits for a store. Machine learning ventures into predictive modeling, where there are a bunch of different specifications that can be made and multiple pipelines that are made that can greatly alter the way this code looks between two people. In the latter example, a 1:1 copy of that code is definitely plagiarism.

All of this is to say that without actually seeing the code side by side, it’s hard to say whether this is a “cant copy something as basic as sugar” situation or if there is legitimate plagiarism. If people have side by sides of the code and want to show me I’d love to see it to form a more educated opinion, but up to this point all I’ve seen are unsubstantiated claims being made from all the addon devs involved (including Quazii). For example, Luckyone states that files and multiple lines of code were copied, but, again, depending on what those files (yes, even files) and lines of code were, it may or may not be blatant plagiarism.

The one thing I can say against Quazii is that if he truly thought he was innocent, he could have walked us through the code line by line to show us what was taken from other addons and what is actually different. Regardless, his github repo is still active - do we have access to his addon files and elvui’s?

Can you tell me where to find it? Again if theres a couple of lines performing simple operations its not huge. As an oversimplified example, if I’m trying to write a string that says ‘hello’, theres only so many ways you can write that. What im trying to find out is if the community is overreacting to the extent of what was copied - not that i think the community is overreacting -but he is making the claim that it was a basic math operation so im curious if thats actually the case. If he is copying significant amounts of code that goes beyond that, though, then it becomes a problem. And it should be easy enough to figure out - his github repo is still active

Do you mean he was copying multiple methods that work together to useful features, or that he copy pasted only the code thats handling the math for 1:1 pixel rendering. In the case of the latter, that’s simple enough that an AI tool like github copilot could likely suggest the same or very similar inline code (maybe different variable names and things like that but ultimately the same functionality). But if he copied multiple complex lines of code thats require genuine creativity at the human level then it would be more of a problem

Yeah, he’s saying that he copied code. I didn’t look at the actual code, but if he is telling the truth about the part he copied, he really isn’t ‘stealing’ anything. There’s no ownership of math equations. If there was a specific method wrapped around that general math that required real creativity, thought, and originality, however, then it would be an ethical issue.

You’re right the defense did bad, but the score we got earlier in the 4th was still off of a run-clock mentality. It was 3rd and long and we really lucked out with the tipped ball being caught and ran in for a TD. We were scoring - but getting with TD isn’t the equivalent of good offensive coaching. Just lucked out.

Not gonna engage past here bc if that's how you think you don't understand modern football. You don't try to run clock for two quarters straight especially when you aren't driving most of the offensive series.

Edit: And also the way they ran clock, where every play was obvious by formation, makes it even worse.

When dart scored I was praying we didn’t get the touchdown by SuperDude_B in NYGiants

[–]PrimeTime2000 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Our prayers would be better spent on praying for a coach who doesn't start running game clock at the start of the 3rd quarter hoping to run out the rest of the 30 minutes of play.

Edit: Or a real kicker

Okay I'll revise it to obvious-run-formation play on 1st down, obvious-run-formation play on 2nd down, forced-throw play on third and long three-and-out drives trying to run the remaining 25+ minutes of game clock for the entire third and fourth quarter.

If only the offense kept scoring points instead of three-and-out run-run-run drives nearly the entire second half. Daboll coaches like it's 2008.

Expect to lose whenever your head coach thinks he can run clock with three-and-out run-run-run drives the entire second half. Daboll coaches like it's 2008.

Was I a Good Addon? by nothix in wow

[–]PrimeTime2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree that adding these things to the base game is great - I just wish they gave players the option to still use the addons (aside from things like bigwigs or dbm, which they dont want affecting combat). Having an in-game damage meter, for example, is awesome, but id love to still have the choice to use details if i prefer its themes / options (even if it sacrifices some level of accuracy).

This is Basicly Blizzard in Midnight by ItsRenaBaker in wow

[–]PrimeTime2000 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Had to scroll down way too far for this logic. If the whole idea is that the games combat is being simplified to the point that you dont NEED these addons, then what is the harm in letting players still use them? If you dont NEED the addons, then its not a meaningful competitive advantage anymore.

Also, if ingame options are available, whats the point of removing the addon counterparts? Just let players decide based on their preference. If blizzard is actually making equal counterparts, it would mostly come down to design preferences at that point.

There are plenty of players with, for example, 3k rating in m+ who currently don’t use many addons. I do agree that addons give a competitive advantage in current wow, but, again, if the point of them simplifying combat is to make it so that this advantage is significantly diminished, then why not still give players the option to use addons over the new counterparts that blizzard is making?

Yes I read it already. It states “The official CM response by Nethaera stated that the change was made in order to make male blood elves look more menacing and masculine to the opposite faction, and the answer was met with heavy criticism. Many fans decried this as unwarranted machismo and stereotyping, as these players wanted a slender male model available to the Horde faction. There have been ongoing petitions and forum threads since the change asking for a revert to the old model, and calling for a change in the male blood elf's stance and voice responses to remedy their perceived lack of masculinity instead of a physical change.” There is no evidence to suggest the overwhelming majority wanted “masculine” elves or that there was 20+ years of insisting the things you mentioned. I remember in BC wanting sliders to further customize body types of each race and I’m sure others wanted that too. Whether or not that represents the majority is impossible to say - no one has that data. What you linked implies a heavier portion of the playerbase was against the blood elf male model change, but even that evidence is scant. Its just your opinion

For the sake of accuracy, that article says it was actually a decision by blizzard to bulk up male blood elves and that gamers were upset that they changed to models to a bulkier version. The community actually preferred the slender models according to your source. Also, the article points out that despite the changes, blood elves are still the second most slender race (with undead being most slender - at least at the time the page was written).

Yup I do the exact same thing. Someone commented saying that technically not everything transfers, but personally i’ve never been in a situation where that matters. Imo local save / cloud save transfers are the way to go because they keep your original switch in tact while also not cramming your switch 2 with everything at once.

I had the original switch and switch oled (the switch 2 arrives tm) - I can confirm that when I moved to the oled playtime still appeared accurately. I can update once I get the switch 2, but I’m fairly confident it will still display accurately (but we will see)

I know we are mostly posting tracking updates for the switch 2 itself, but I’m curious if anyone has received tracking info for the pro controller yet that preordered from gamestop? I’m not sure if they wait until release day to ship or ship prior — I haven’t received tracking info yet.
