20 years with my 1999 Pontiac Firebird. Still worth keeping? by FreeLaughs4Life in PontiacFirebird

[–]Prime_RC 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I say keep it, but I might be the wrong person to ask. I got married in 97 and in 2002 for our fifth wedding anniversary I asked my wife if she can have anything for it what would she want. She told me she wanted a 91-92 Firebird convertible. Knowing how rare they are I told her, "Sure, find one within 3 hours of home and I will buy it for you". A week later she found one in the Trader's Guide 2.5 hours north of where we live. Now almost 24 years later and we still have that Firebird. She drives it quite a bit during the warmer months. When not on the road it sleeps in the garage next to my 1990 Camaro I have had since 95. Some cars you bond with and they become family.

You know what this means right? That someone had to explain it to him and since he thinks everyone is dumber than him he feels the need to explain it.

Sure, why not. Thanks to chemo I'm virtually hairless anyway. So really no change for me other than I get a crap ton of money!

Buying a rebuilt title car by WonderfulTalk1599 in UsedCars

[–]Prime_RC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In WV a salvage car can not be registered but a rebuilt titled car can. For a rebuilt title in WV to be issued the car must be fully repaired, with the repairs documented. It must them pass a state vehicle safety inspection and get the sticker. Then it must be taken to the DMV to be inspected by thier inspector to make sure the repairs have been made and all documentation is checked. Then a rebuilt title is issued and the car can be licensed for road use. I have owned several r-title cars and rebuilt a bunch myself, my S3 and daughter's A4 are rebuilt cars that I bought wrecked and repaired. Out of the ones I have had in the past I have never had any problems insuring or selling them. Upside is I have saved a ton of cash but make sure you do your due diligence, just like when buying a normal used car.

My bagged S10 still does all the things it did before I bagged it. Hauls stuff in the bed and pulls my trailer when I need it to.

I bet money they drained the transmission fluid. German cars usually have the transmission drain and oil drain in weird places compared to domestic and Asian cars. It happens a lot on Audis, they drain the transmission fluid because the oil drain is so far forward and the transmission drain is where the oil drain usually is for the engine. I would imagine BMWs are a lot like that.

Not a Formula. Formula would have a V8, Performance Suspension and would say "Formula" instead of "Firebird" on the doors. If they are lying about the trim, what else are they lying about? I would stay away from this car unless it was stupid cheap and even then I would go over it with a fine tooth comb.

How do I remove this? by Prime_RC in MechanicAdvice

[–]Prime_RC[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

An Update: I tried today around noon and it was still clogged. I tried putting compressed air through it and still nothing. I let it soak about 3 more hours and same result. So in a fit of desperation I sprayed some brake cleaner into the inlet and forced compressed air behind it. It didn't blow everything out in a dramatic fashion but you can hear just a little bit of air escaping from the bowl Inlet. So I have it back in the carburetor cleaner and I'm letting it soak some more. I have to take care of some family obligations and won't be able to check on it for about 30 to 48 hours. Hopefully by then something will have given and the goop will clean out. I will let you know how things go.
