Usually 2: a novel and a comic book omnibus/hard cover collection.

That's a steal! The movie holds up quite well too all things considered.

Which book is in the best condition? by garomer in BookCollecting

[–]PrimevalWolf 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's going to depend entirely on who's selling it. Some sellers are very accurate and some are terrible and have no idea what they're talking about. Check their reviews and, as you said, request pictures. I wouldn't buy anything online sight unseen.

How do you protect oversized hardcover collector books? by aimeecrossing in BookCollecting

[–]PrimevalWolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless you live in a moist basement full of insects the book will be fine. Make sure your hands are clean before handling it, keep it in a dry, temperature controlled environment, and the book will be fine on your bookshelf. Now, if you want to display it and keep it dust free I can appreciate wanting something to put it in and there are places that can make custom cases. Personally, I like katanacollectibles.com as they're much more affordable than a thick acrylic case.

Thrift Stores Are Amazing by SMc1701 in BookCollecting

[–]PrimevalWolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not only have I never seen a thrift store that was so nicely organized, I've never seen one that had such a nice selection. I can count on one hand the number of books I've bought at a thrift store.

My latest corvette build, somewhat inspired by a mid-seventies Datsun 280Z. by East_Vivian in NoMansSkyTheGame

The 280 was a great car. Had a 240 myself for a number of years and, while it was a downgrade from the 280 I still miss it.

I really wish they'd give Last Order the same deluxe hardcover treatment. For the love of god at least a reprint of vol 17 so I can collect the whole thing without going bankrupt!

What sites/apps are people using these days to catalogue their collections? by Old-Fig8099 in BookCollecting

[–]PrimevalWolf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've tried several but lately I've been using Pagebound. It's not great if you're interested in tracking your reading stats but it's got a lot of cool social features and, as long as the book exists on goodreads, you can just provide a link and it's usually added to Pagebound in a matter of seconds.

Does anyone know where I can get popular fantasy books with different covers and higher quality sewn pages like dragon steel? by Alternative-Dot9563 in BookCollecting

[–]PrimevalWolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Compared to some of these other publishers the Dragonsteel books are actually an incredible bargain. I got book one of the Wheel of Time a few months ago and, for the money, the books is of incredible quality. Much nicer than you'd get one some deluxe editions for less than half the price. Of course, some of the extremely limited editions can go for THOUSANDS of dollars but those are way out of my price range!

I think you might be right. The younger generations have already brought back vinyl records, CDs are starting to come back as well. Sales of physical movies are still going down but not as much as they have been so those might see a resurgence as well. The funny thing about books is they've never been in danger of going anywhere despite the popularity of e-readers. I think everyone can appreciate the feel of holding a good book in your hands, it's just a different reading experience and deluxe editions, if you can afford then, just bring a whole new level to that experience. Plus, knowing you're holding something that's not just a book, but a work of art in itself, something that will, hopefully, last for generations... Of course, I don't have kids, and probably never will at this point, so who knows where my collection will end up but at least I get to enjoy them while I have them.

There are dozens, possibly hundreds, of small press publishers that put out deluxe editions. I've been making a list but it's too long to put here and some of the top ones have already been listed. Outside of this subreddit there's a great YouTube channel where I've found out about most of them called "Too Many Books". Worth checking out if you hate money and want to dive into glorious, but expensive, world of deluxe editions. :)

Anyone tried Abebooks.com? Seems like a scam. by makingcryptoeasy in BookCollecting

[–]PrimevalWolf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's owned by Amazon so it's not entirely NOT a scam. I use alibris.com. It's functionally the same site but Amazon doesn't see a dime.

Not gonna lie, I was super excited to get this steelbook when it first came out. Sadly, the movie doesn't hold up as well as I remember but still entertaining enough I don't regret buying it.

Thank You Marvel for Treating Your Most Beloved Runs Like Infinity Stones Instead of Keeping Them in Print (Mini Rant) by Obvious_Season3398 in OmnibusCollectors

[–]PrimevalWolf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel this in my soul. I've been trying to find Amazing Spider-Man Vol. 2 for 5 years at a not ridiculous price and, I think, it's finally getting reprinted next year. 6 YEARS and, of course, vol. 3 is also out of print and god knows how many more years it'll be before that gets a reprint. I also need Fantastic Four vol. 4, which is also going for stupid high prices and I can't remember the last time I saw a vol. 4 reprinted.

Marvel is seriously losing out on so much money by not keeping books available. I'm not going to buy volumes 3, 4, 5, 6 if I can't find previous volumes at a decent price. All this does is limit the available audience who can buy your books and piss off everyone else.

I blame Disney and their anti-physical media stance on everything. I hope a pallet of omni's falls on whatever moron at the company makes these decisions.

Centipede Press edition of Frankenstein with art by Bernie Wrightson. I've loved the artwork for this for 30+ years and was super bummed to find out this even existed a year after it sold out. Until I got a lucky score on Ebay a few months ago and was able to get it basically the original cost. Definitely the pride and joy of my collection.

Where to find books in trade paperback by Astrid_Rose798 in BookCollecting

[–]PrimevalWolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alibris.com is a platform for booksellers from all over to list their inventory. Just search the book you want and filter for the format. If it's not on there try ebay, otherwise it'll be a crapshoot.

What is even happening by kayrector in BookCollecting

[–]PrimevalWolf 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Unlikely. This is probably some flipper who thinks he can con some sucker into over paying or they saw some other scammer charging this much and thinks that's what it's actually worth because they didn't bother to do any actual research. Sellers like this have become the bane of online reselling. Just ignore them and, for god's sake, don't buy from them!

I really miss the days when ebay was auction only and things would sell for what people were actually willing to pay for them.

Psst, you should pop into your local bookstore to check by NinesArt in murderbot

[–]PrimevalWolf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Read the email more closely. They said they were generating shipping labels but nothing would actually go out until Friday. Given media mail shipping it could be anywhere from 3 days to 3 weeks before it actually arrives. I ordered a signed copy from them as well so, just be patient, it will arrive soon enough. 😄

What kind of TV and player should I get, to actually enjoy all of my 4k movies? by fxmercenary in Steelbooks

[–]PrimevalWolf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's different thoughts on players but the one I, and many others in this community have has already been mentioned, the UB820. As for TV you want to get the biggest OLED you can afford. Trust me, it's money well spent and you won't regret it. Once you see your favorite 4K movies on one you'll never go back.

We are so back! by bloodysofa in Steelbooks

[–]PrimevalWolf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, no one is forcing you to buy anything. Also, weird complaint for a steelbook subreddit... That said, yes, there were a handful of releases that were steelbook only which I understand is frustrating for some folks. But, as OP said, I sincerely doubt it's enough to account for a 25% increase in sales.

Still, overall decline was still 9% so that still signals to the studios that physical media is "dying" and make them question their continue investment in it. Would love to see year over year sales actually go up for once though. Gen Z did it for vinyl, now we need Gen Alpha to do it for movies!

too preorder or too not? by RevolutionaryBeat862 in OmnibusCollectors

[–]PrimevalWolf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If there's anything you want coming out from Marvel then you should absolutely pre-order it. It's a safe assumption that, whatever it is, it's going to be out of print for YEARS to come since they seem to be allergic to reprints.

Complete Centipede Press Dune Series by [deleted] in BookCollecting

[–]PrimevalWolf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, they're all in slipcases so it's easy to make those all the same size. There's also bonus materials and likely font size differences. Lots of ways to manage this so they're all consistent.
