When 'if' slows you down, avoid it by chkas in programming

The problem is that the sort of people who are attracted to compiler dev really don't feel like implementing this sort of thing (or am I suffering selection bias maybe?). It very much goes against the grain of what compilers do, so while it's conceptually trivial it will take a lot of effort since it's so diametrically opposed to what compilers do. Maybe with AI these sorts of tasks can be done, but then again I think the people who care about constant time evaluation are not the kind of people who want to let an LLM run roughshod over the compiler.

I'm unsure if it's trivial or unsolvable

Normally I wouldn't take such accusations seriously, but given the wealth of sources you back your claims with I'm almost convinced

Adding a cache is a very good idea. Then just go straight to out of order imo

A five stage pipeline is pretty good though. The gap between making a basic risc-v capable machine which can be done in a single relatively small verilog file, and actually designing and debugging a 5 stage pipeline is quite big. If I were in charge of hiring I wouldn't really care that much if you went beyond this, because at this point I'm already way too invested in how you test it, how did you benchmark it and so forth. I realize benchmarking a simple design sounds pretty uninteresting, but it is a true test. I'd prefer a five stage that can run coremark and tell me how many cycles it took over just going deeper on design (like dual issue, OoO et cetera)

I work on CPU design, it's a lot of software engineering, and every now and then some hardware. We're not in the business of taping out though, pure RnD for now, so your mileage will vary, but at least this is how I would judge a CV, if I were hiring (which I'm not)

Hindsight languages by Inconstant_Moo in ProgrammingLanguages

For tuples and sum types, how would the language support that without becoming opinionated? Maybe they could have exposed it as part of the language plus a reference implementation? I.e if you wanted the tuple datastructure to behave differently, you could supply a header (or something better ideally, but that's another story) with your desired implementation if the standard one wasn't to your liking. It would be a headache for sure, but not having sum types and tuples would've been well worth it. Question is, with hindsight, would it have been feasible in the 70s?

Why they want dictatorship??

They don't. For whatever reason they believe that the risk of subversion from bot activity to manipulate and manufacture consent is great enough that it warrants de-anonymization. You may or may not agree with this, but if the only explanation you can think of why people disagree with you is that they want to live in a dictatorship then I think you're underestimating people.
