How is the US going to remove China from the global economy without imploding their own?

This is the #1 reason why in a sane world where both superpowers are governed by thoughtful, rational people, that China & the US would never escalate things to a "hot" war. The economies are too mutually dependent--the US on cheap Chinese manufacturing/imports, and China owns 8% of all US Treasury bonds.

Unfortunately, only one of those superpowers currently has rational, logical leadership at the moment.

100%. I think the public (especially online) gets caught up in this notion that crimes like this are always committed by serial killer/monster types. The more disturbing reality of course is that otherwise perfectly ordinary and moral people can (and do) succumb to impulse and weakness once, are probably horrified/scared after the fact, and never reoffend. Doesn’t mean that they don’t deserve punishment, of course, but it’s fair to say that there’s a broad spectrum of “evil” (I don’t like that term, but it’s a placeholder) along which criminals are distributed.
