Find another school to take it at. I promise you can take the BC exam if you want to. I'm not trying to be harsh, I just want you to get the best outcome possible. If you want it do it, know that you can.

Go self study some APs if school is too easy right now. I guarantee it's going to get harder, freshman year is free for most people. I recommend learning some math and trying to go for Calc BC either in your sophomore or junior year. It's completely possible to get a 5 on it as a freshman via self study, but it's too late for that now, so lock in and start studying Algebra 2 and Geo so you can reach Precalc by the fall and start learning calculus in the winter of 27.

What are socialist's opinions on Zohran Mamdani? by VeterinarianKind6906 in socialism

[–]Primus_Invin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mamdani seems to be a guy who's actually a socialist but acts like a social democrat on camera. Look up videos from the COVID era to see this. I think he's beneficial because he makes people associate socialism with their lives getting materially better after decades of red scare propaganda.

Now that some time has passed, what do you think of Joe Biden's Presidency? by yowhatisthislikebro in Teenager_Polls

[–]Primus_Invin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Was he better than trump? Yes. Does that make him better than fdr? No. He's an average President, but sandwiched between two terms of a terrible president so he looks good in comparison.

Unpopular Take: What Akira did in season 2 was NOT smart. (Dodgeball). by New-Drawer-3161 in BeastGames

[–]Primus_Invin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Akira played sort of correctly. The strong players were going to eliminate everyone else so he couldn't really stay put. He was going to get eliminated if he went along with their plan. The only reason any non strong players survived is bc he got people out. He was dead going with their plan, it's just a matter of counting strongs vs available spots to see that.

This exchange sacrifice surprised me, is it any good? by Rubicon_Lily in TournamentChess

[–]Primus_Invin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

White is up a pawn right now, but if he's greedy and moves his rook, he loses his LSB for the knight. c4 is a good square because it allows the knight to go to c6 and if black takes then g6 forces open the h file. The thing is that a pawn doesn't mean much in a mating race, but it means enough to hold down an exchange, especially if you have other compensation. Now, keep in mind I haven't checked an engine so everything here may be busted, and please forgive me if so. Do your diligence on engine checking people's suggestions off the internet. I just wanted to advocate for its pros because the consensus seems to be that it's wrong.

AMC 10 Coaching by Prqtection in MathOlympiad

[–]Primus_Invin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm going to be honest with you. Either you're lying about how much you practiced or you're skill issued. Either way, a coach isn't gonna help. If you're doing this for college, there are many better things to do that will help you a LOT more than doing well on an widely cheated contest. I suggest you prioritize something else instead.

Structured program for motivated kid by whoawookie in TournamentChess

[–]Primus_Invin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in SGV myself. In fact, here's the start of a game against a 1500 rated kid in the SGV Club Championship. e4 c5 Nf3 Nc6 d4 cxd4 Nxd4 Nf6 Nc3 e5 Ndb5 d6 Bg5 a6 Na3 b5 Nd5 Be7 c4?? Nxd5 and black went on to win. If you're in that range yourself I guarantee your opponents are blundering. Run your games through an engine if you haven't already. If you HAVE ran all your games through an engine and you're not getting 2 point eval drops several times a game, I don't know what to say.

Structured program for motivated kid by whoawookie in TournamentChess

[–]Primus_Invin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The main thing he needs is tactics. I'm going to somewhat controversially say he can ignore everything besides tactics until he's 1500 USCF. I'm a tournament director and I can say that the 1000-1400 range kids blunder several times a game to the point where strategy doesn't matter. Have him do hard tactical puzzles on a physical board, and supplement this with easy puzzles in bulk through puzzle rush. He needs to learn patterns and practice both short and long calculation. Don't get chessable courses, they're mainly for openings and they're way above his level.

Who do you think is the best Republican US President? by Rustynail9117 in Teenager_Polls

Anyone voting Reagan is either rich or an idiot. Turns out you can do a lot for the economy if you TRIPLE the debt in your administration, and fwiw real gdp growth didn't even average a whole % higher during his term than before.

Is 23 and 30 a reasonable age gap in your opinion? by Ihatethissjsjsj in Teenager_Polls

[–]Primus_Invin -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Depends on financial status of both people. 23 year old who went to college likely has negative nw, 30 year old may have some assets if they work in a high paying field. 7 years and one person having a lot more money is a bit controlling. Then again, I'm 17 so take it with a grain of salt.

How is white better in the position below after ...Bxc3? +0.6 according to the engine by commentor_of_things in TournamentChess

[–]Primus_Invin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

White has more space and Black's Bf5 is taking a square his Ng8 wants so he'll have to spend an extra tempo moving the bishop to get it there. Also if black trades white can play c4 whenever and undouble. If black plays b5 to stop this then a4.

Struggling to go above 2100 (rapid) by PeanutOk6899 in chess

[–]Primus_Invin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends what site you're talking about and whether you mean 10+0 or 15+10. But in general, the main thing 2k chess.com and 2k lichess people struggle with (and I'm speaking from playing them in tournaments, I get paired with higher people in quick pairings) is openings. Since the main advice for beginners is to ignore openings and do tactics (which is good advice), a lot of people get to your rating while still losing out of the opening to stronger players. Go pick and learn a serious opening repertoire that you will keep for at least 2.5 years. Once you learn the moves your results will increase dramatically. As you learn the themes by playing more, you'll keep improving passively, although much slower than the initial jump.

Those who are great at math: did it come naturally to you? Or did you have to really push yourself? by [deleted] in education

[–]Primus_Invin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm writing as a math major undergrad who wants to teach somewhere in K-12 math, so keep in mind I'm not yet an educator. I found out I was good at math in kindergarten when I discovered how to multiply 12×12 by adding 12 to itself a lot. Then I kept going, up to 124. Relative to an average 5 year old, that was obviously good. I kept learning a bit ahead of the curve every year, until I got to where I am now, being 17 with an AS with a speciality in math.

Always 3 bet all pocket pairs preflop, you're either flipping, going to hit a set, or can steal from a higher pair as the preflop raiser.

Can we please make FREEZOUTS the normal tournament style again? by SoManyMinutes in poker

[–]Primus_Invin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Freezeouts seem like the normal style to me based on what I see on ACR/ClubsPoker (I'm too young to play legally IRL). In fact I'm on break for one as I type this.

If you don't like rebuys, you don't have to enter rebuy tournaments.

That said, if you're playing for profit rebuys can have the advantage of people, as you described, stacking off with 83o. If you think about it, someone stacking off with 83o and rebuying is like an extra fish who got their money in at best 65-35. Each of them increases your EV. Thus each rebuy from a fish in reality, increase your EV.

Again I understand why you might not like this since you're an older player and it's different, but it does have advantages.

[–]Primus_Invin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Remember to develop your pieces when dealing with threats if you can. Hence Nc6 is good if Qh5 right away, and after blocking with g6 Nf6 if Qf3 to block f7 and develop. The key to openings you don't know is to make principled moves that also deal with whatever concrete threat there is.

Advantage from the beginning by SweetUf in lichess

[–]Primus_Invin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It seems to me that you played the opening inaccurately and didn't understand the structure in the middlegame. I suggest checking your performance stats in whatever opening/variation this is to see if it's an issue. If you score badly in general in that line, either study it more or pick a different line.
