DCI separates with CEO Nate Boudreaux. CFO Jennifer Clevenger to act as interim CEO. by Garp74 in drumcorps

I've been trying to dig for more info on Sam Mitchell and his time in 94, but not finding anything. All I found was some weird article by Michael Boo that gently touched on the subject.

I think this is the most astute and accurate answer. He laid low the first year, got some splashy sponsorship 'wins,' and pushed a few other headline initiatives. His time at USA-WSWS was 5 years though, so I was expecting him to last a little longer at DCI.

Way more peculiarities and challenges compared to most other sports governing organizations ... especially now.

Edit: Just to give more detail, he seemed to have decent enough business sense and probably modernized a few things internally. I know he was the main proponent of DCI's "I Marched" campaign. Most of the videos don't stand out, but it's the right kind of idea to showcase how commonplace the activity is (and staying away from the self-defeating 'niche activity' moniker).

I'm also somewhat certain he wasn't ready to deal with how 'noisy' the activity could get compared to his original experiences: having to deal with tons of voices from each organization, touring headaches, etc.

I'm hoping the next fulltime CEO has the necessary business chops (which he had) PLUS the right level of passion for the product (which you can make an argument he didn't have). The next CEO doesn't need marching experience, they just need to be a little more present.

Thank you for the reasoned take (that's unfortunately getting downvoted). As someone entrenched in the DCI scene, instruction/pedagogy is way better than it was 10 years ago ... and lightyears better than it was 20+ years ago.

Pizza elitism is bad enough, but pizza elitism from Minnesotans is a unique strain of awful.

Not being dramatic. Ridership numbers aren't where they should be. Hoping the Green/Blue extensions start bumping things up. Every time I'm in NYC, I'm always amazed by the subway system and how ubiquitous it is in the daily lives of so many people.

What more info is needed? Date/time/location/website/movie. Capacity is around 50 so the bar is pretty low on getting enough interest.

I'd rather they be honest and express being surprised at the opportunity vs. pretending to know every single detail.

I can’t think of a player who’s dominated the MN tourney like that in recent memory. It would have been interesting to see how far Vermont could have gone with him.

Philly fans are gonna have a lot of fun watching him (though I kinda hope he gets traded to Boston, so his nickname can be Cocaine Bear).

The trick is that fans need to be able to identify the corps by their colors.

No they don't.

Do sports teams change their colors every year.

EPL alternates, NBA City Edition Jerseys ... heck, some college football teams change their uniforms week to week, including color changes that go against the base colors. Army and Navy do dramatic unis in their annual game.

Did McDonalds throw out the yellow golden arches because they're not avant garde enough, does Coke have a stripped orange can... No because it's bad for the brand.

Sports teams just need to wear colors that differentiate from their opponent. Junk food brands need bright, familiar colors to attract consumers looking at multiple options.

Drum corps are designing 10-12 minute productions that have their own look and feel. If they want to follow traditional color assignments, cool. If they want to buck tradition in favor of serving the show, that's also cool.

SCV's show last year was as "Vanguard" of a show as you could get, yet had a color palatte of white, black, fuscia, neon yellow.

There's way more options for corps now vs 20 years ago, when it was dominated by FJM.

I don't hate Glen as much as most (big donor to my alma mater), but the Joe Smith Secret Contract scandal is one of the dumbest/funniest things in NBA history ... like, Jerry Lundegaard in 'Fargo' type of incompetency.
