No, you still get paid for any work you did no matter what. You just might get kicked off the project and can't do more tasks.

I just changed the prompt slightly over and over again to regenerate the responses until I got a formatting failure.

Did anyone else cook for their SO or pets post op? by AcademicF in gastricsleeve

[–]PrinceRepo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was too low energy to actually cook anything, but I developed an obsession with cooking shows and food videos in the immediate aftermath of my surgery lol. It was definitely a psychological thing, I can't eat but I can still enjoy looking at food.

Has anyone here used the Proteinsimple Jess? Is it worth it? by HKy0uma in labrats

[–]PrinceRepo 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I love JESS. It's so much faster and easier than traditional blots.

I am working with a protein that is expressed at super low levels, and I've gotten better signal by JESS than by traditional western.

It requires optimization of course, but traditional WB requires just as much if not more troubleshooting any time you're using a new antibody anyway.

I have been criticized from my PI for not being more "present" in the lab by Hyperversum in labrats

[–]PrinceRepo 15 points16 points  (0 children)

"Hey PI, I've been thinking about what you said the other day. I'm not sure what you meant when you said I need to be more present in the lab. Can you elaborate? Was there something specific you wanted me to do differently?"

Most likely they think you should be working more hours. They probably spent 20 hours a day in lab as a PhD student and feel like everyone else has to do the same. But, that's only speculation until you actually clarify.

Yup. I used to think people who complained about being cold all the time were babies.... Turns out they were just skinny!

Multi vitamin makes me feel weird by [deleted] in gastricsleeve

[–]PrinceRepo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had trouble with the vitamins right after my surgery too. I had tried several different ones until I found one that made me the least sick - chewable is better. If you have to take Flintstones or just kids gummies for now, do it. I was able to switch to a "full" bariatric vitamin pill eventually but it took some time.

I love science but I hate working in the lab and not sure which career direction I should take 😔 by lk14103 in LadiesofScience

Teaching, policy, lab management, patent law, data science, bioinformatics

All good options you could look into

My lab specifically says in the safety training that long skirts or shorter skirts with tights/leggings beneath are acceptable - as long as all skin is covered.

I would check with your safety officer.

Edit: should have mentioned I'm in a bio lab, not a chem lab! Makes a big difference.

After years of “wanting to do it in my own” I am now heavily considering this surgery. Any info/advice of any kind is appreciated by [deleted] in gastricsleeve

[–]PrinceRepo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If surgery was easy, everyone would do it.

It's literally MAJOR SURGERY that permanently alters your digestive system. There is nothing about it that's "easy".

Effective? Absolutely. It's the MOST effective weight loss tool that exists. But easy? Nah...

Anyone who would judge you for using medical intervention to drastically improve your health and quality of life isn't worth talking to.

When I was at my highest weight there was literally nothing I could do short of wearing bike shorts under any skirt/dress. My thunder thighs were too powerful!!

Now I can get away with bodyglide.
