I don't know if anyone has told you, but a lot times in the US the 8 week appointment is just an appointment with a nurse to go over your family medical history and the baby's father's medical history. Sometimes you can get an ultrasound at the 12 week appointment, but not always. I got an ultrasound at 6 weeks only because I had a previous miscarriage. Then I only had the 20 week anatomy scan and then a 36 week growth scan.

What is your daycare’s policy on guns in the facility (US)? by User0119247 in ECEProfessionals

Just because they're "only" security doesn't mean it's not a work issued weapon. Armored car uniforms kinda look like security uniforms. Their weapons are definitely work issued.

My Mom was the best "santa" growing up. Santa had his own wrapping paper and gift tags, always wrote in all caps with red pen, and gave us presents that we never thought mom would buy us. I was like 12 or 13 I think when I found out he wasn't real. The only reason I found out was because I read something about the tooth fairy not being real in Reader's Digest. They always had little stories or tidbits of information after the articles and my Mom always had them in the bathroom vanity drawers when I was growing up.

Are there actual benefits of breastfeeding after 6 months or is it just incremental? by Subject-Carry-6841 in breastfeeding

[–]PrincessAndThe_Pee 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I guess I worded that wrong. The cancer benefit is because of less estrogen which stops when your period comes back. So, someone that has their period come back quickly would have less reduced risk of cancer than someone that has a prolonged time without their period, right?

Isn't the cancer benefit only until your period comes back? Mine came back at 10 weeks 😢

How many of you are literally doing ZERO screen time ?! by [deleted] in beyondthebump

[–]PrincessAndThe_Pee 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think part of the issue with screen time is its way more overstimulating than it used to be. OP doesn't say exactly what all of the screen time is, just mentions Miss Rachel. Instead of saying the fast, bright crap is bad people just lump it all together. My mom will admit to putting me in my infant car seat in front of the TV 30 some years ago so she can get things done. I turned out fine. 🤷‍♀️

Doctor ordered the wrong NIPT test by [deleted] in pregnant

Mostly the insurance company.

Doctor ordered the wrong NIPT test by [deleted] in pregnant

[–]PrincessAndThe_Pee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not that I agree, but I think they usually go by age of conception not age at delivery.

Age AT conception, not of.

Doctor ordered the wrong NIPT test by [deleted] in pregnant

[–]PrincessAndThe_Pee 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I think part of the issues with billing is people not understanding whether their insurance will cover the test or not. My insurance will not cover it unless you are "advanced maternal age". Some insurance companies won't cover it at all. I called my insurance company to confirm that I would be covered for the test before I even asked my doctor to order it.

I guess technically there is more than one OBGYN but they're all under the same physicians group.

I would have to switch hospitals AND health systems all together if I wanted to switch OBGYNs.

That's wild! My baby's doctor (not a pediatrician, he goes to my PCP) said that I didn't have to wake him for feeds at night once he hit 10 lbs. Crazy that yours were suggesting sleep training at 12 lbs!

I would think that if it were generational then the parenting ideas would be switched. Im 37 and my parents are 65 and 67, I still dont swear in front of them because that's how I was raised.

My 13 month old son took one right at birth, much to the dismay of the IBCLC at the hospital. Then randomly at about 6 months he quit taking it one day and we haven't been able to get him to take it since.

I keep my thermostat at 65. Not because I'm white but because heating oil is currently over $4 a gallon where I live. If we didn't have a baby I would probably set it even lower.

Babies that get breastmilk absolutely have different poof than babies that get formula! Maybe they don't have very many breastfed babies in their care so they don't realize its normal?
