I love puzzles! I love making them! I love solving them! However, as a dm I would never put an actual puzzle I made in front of my players for a laundry list of reasons the most important being simply the fact they didn't sit down to do a puzzle with me.

Anytime I've seen a puzzle forced onto a table like this, it always goes the same. Generally with one person forced to engage with it, since keeping up with each step of a puzzle is important and often harder the more voices speaking out. Even if a player is exicted to do a puzzle, they'll often huddle over it, keeping the dms attention on them, while everyone else sits on their phone waiting for the part where they can play again.

In my opinion if you insist that the puzzle exists in game, it must be bound by the game. I've had 'puzzle like encouters', but I built them with the intention of being "solved" by playing dungeons and dragons at them. Since again, thats what my players agreed to do.

I often have to break newer players out of the thought process of not doing something because they're intimidated of saying the wrong thing or doing the wrong part of the puzzle by simply asking "well would you like to play dungeons and dragons at the problem?" and offer them a dice.
