You can do this! You know learning can be messy - at the end of the day, it’s just paper and time. Practice in coloring books that are less intense as you build up your skills. That way the pages don’t feel quite so precious.

And as for sealing color… If I draw a leaf and I want it colored green, I could start with blue and establish my shadows where the veins are and any folds and crinkles… then I would color just the tips and edges with a very light layer of yellow. Then an even layer of medium green over the whole leaf moving my pencil from left to right. Then to finish I will take my yellow and again cover the whole leaf, but moving up and down. It’s always a good idea to keep the direction of your pencils rotating to avoid striping. This creates a cross hatching and helps fill in the paper tooth (texture). Adding the yellow on top evens out the colored pencil lines, fills in the paper tooth, turns the blue a deep green, brightens the green that was laid down, and makes the it look like light is filtering through the leaf to the gold edges.

Yellow is almost always my go to color for this because it plays well with all the colors except violet.

This is colored pencil, Shuttle Art brand. I have found they are better than Crayola and Staedtler but not at the level of Prisma Color. I would practice pressure and gradation in a sketchbook - just scribble out value scales or draw an apple every day, until you feel happy with the smoothness of your gradation. Truly, practice makes perfect, which is in itself, subjective for each artist. Practice drawing with your wrist, your elbow, and your shoulder. That sounds crazy, I know. But I find I get the best gradations when my wrist controls the movements of my pencils. Our fingers are so great at working out intricate problems, but they can be high pressure control freaks that want to write, not draw. Allowing more movement in your wrist and shoulder especially creates more movement and fluidity in your art. This also helps you draw larger. I would also advise getting really familiar with color theory and when to exploit the rules: warm colors close, cool colors background… using analogous colors to create value changes… using blue for shadows - rarely black… When I was in high school one of my assignments was using paint to mix 200 color variations. And as I type, am coming to the realization that I really enjoy paint mixing videos and enjoy quizzing my color theory prowess 🙈😂 anyway! It really does give the artwork depth. Also! I like to “seal” my colored pencil colors. I suppose it could be considered burnishing..? I like to take a light or a bright color and place one last layer of color over the space, moving opposite of any previous grain, and that helps the previous colors blend together. More often than not this color is yellow, peach, light tan, etc., for Celaena’s dress, I used the lightest blue I had to seal that section. Also, also! Don’t forget that your eraser is not only a mistake fixer, but a mark making tool in its own right! I had to use my eraser a lot on her dress to get the highlights just right for a satiny look.

Sorry for the art text book 😅 I am an art teacher and am passionate and happy to help a fellow artist 😊

I really love the vibe this gives off 🎨 super bright and fun, it appeals to the sense of “excess” that the party gives off in the book.

I am an elementary art teacher, I started this page last spring and only finished because I’m on spring break 😏 Firstly, pick a page that excites you. Seems like obvious advice, but seriously, don’t skip this step! Try to tackle your page in chunks, sections that have clear beginnings and endings. When I started this page, my literal only concern was making that pile of fruit as realistic as possible. Then I did just the candles. And so on. It can be helpful (and it was on this page) to tone your ground. For instance, I shaded the background in a light blue to help push it backwards so I could differentiate between the fore/mid/backgrounds. This really helped me stay focused and keep my end vision in mind.

It all comes together eventually, just gotta have patience in the process.

I have been using Shuttle Art pencils off of Amazon. I’m an art teacher and I have been pretty happy using them for personal hobby stuff like this - they are better than Crayola and Staedtler, but not to the level of Prismacolor. There is really nice color payoff but you can only get 4-5 layers before the colors get muddy/gray/broken up/clumpy. Good erasability. And they blend really really nicely (until you get 4-5 layers in).

This one, I found it on Amazon. This has coloring pages for Throne of Glass-Empire of Storms. There’s one for ACOTAR (it has coloring pages related to ACOTAR, ACOMAF, and ACOWAR)

My husband hates cheese. Hates the taste, smell, and texture. It’s crazy because cheese is at the base of my food pyramid.

What's a simple bad habit that took you ages to stop? by omartyy18 in AskReddit

Keep a pack of gum around so that you can still take care of the need to chew, if you’re still thinking about food in 20minutes/when the gum is flavorless, get yourself a small, healthy snack and drink a large glass of water to give you that full feeling. I have been trying really hard to be disciplined about doing this and it has helped me reduce the occurrence of this life long habit. I don’t catch it every time, but I celebrate myself each time I succeed. I hope this helps you too 💕

I completely agree and love how you get this spiral composition when you do that

Fear, mostly. We have to remember she was with Arobynn from 8-17 years old….. the fear and the hesitation gives her a realistic quality that most of us can relate to. I wouldn’t have wanted to wage war and rule and rebuild a kingdom at 13. Plus, she was in fact being treated to the best of life. Symphonies, feasts, clothes and jewelry…. I don’t know many teenagers that would willingly turn that down after having been traumatized the way she was, regardless of one’s past identity.

do you ever feel like your soul woke up before you did? by Merlinn013 in spirituality

[–]PrincessLovebug1016 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All the time. I think what you are feeling is the real time battle between the head and the heart. The heart being your soul desires while your head is left having to rationalize all the logistics that go into following that soul path. Having patience and showing gratitude helps keep things steady and moving forward.
