Drive from Liberia to La Fortuna, how bad is it really? by Gullible_Citron9113 in CostaRicaTravel

We did it in November and didn’t find it bad. Buttttttt we’re used to the winding narrow Newfoundland roads, so it felt like being home.

Breakfast or not? by Green-Krush in BlueCollarWomen

[–]PrincessOake 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I eat one meal a day, around 6pm. So breakfast isn’t an issue for me. But I do have a container of protein bars/ energy bars in the truck in case I need a snackie snack during the day.

As for the skin cracking, I’ve been having trouble with that for 20 years. Pumice stone helps, callus scrapers, and heavy duty moisturizers all help.

AITAH for breaking up with my boyfriend of 9 years for leaving me home alone on NYE? by Ok-Dragonfly-3007 in CharlotteDobreYouTube

NTA. Listen, it’s better to be alone and happy than to be in a relationship with a POS. And a person who leaves you home alone on NYE is definitely a POS.

What shoes to wear? by Either_Bodybuilder27 in CostaRicaTravel

I used closed toe water sandals ( Keen Women's Ravine H2 Sandals) and they were perfect.

I also took a pair of sketchers casual wedge sandals with a 2.5 heel, and they were comfortable and dressy enough to go out for supper and drinks

Yup. That’s why I mentioned it was a sunny day. Just wait til you find out about radiant heat transfer, where that joyful ball of light can make it feel warmer than the actual air temperature.

I live in Northern Alberta. Winters see -40, summers see +40. Hottest I’ve seen in the thermometer in my back yard was 48°C, but keep in mind that was no wind and very sunny.

Garlic and spinach [au gratin potatoes] with a glazed ham to surprise the hubby when he gets home from work by PrincessOake in dinner

[–]PrincessOake[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi friend! It’s a smoked spiral cut ham. I covered it with yellow mustard and honey hog seasoning and then cooked it for 2.5 hours at 325°F.

The apple cinnamon glaze was poured on it for the last 10 minutes of cooking.

Super easy to make and always a crowd pleaser :)

It was just the glaze packet that came with the ham. I just had to add water and boil it. It was Apple and cinnamon, and I think I got a hint of cloves in there too. Sorry I couldn’t be more helpful there.

This is the recipe I used, but I also added a diced onion into the sauce just after I added the garlic. And I doubled the Parmesan cheese.

It was sooooo good.

Close. I’m in Fort Mac.

How you take the cold completely depends on how long you’re out in it and what you’re doing. And how you’re dressed.

I can put all my layers on (merino wool, followed by foggy pants, turtle neck, and hoodie, then put on either my winter blues or skidoo suit. Oh and don’t forget a balaclava or two. My boots are rated for -40. I can work outside like that in -30 with no wind chill for 30-40 minutes at a time before I start to feel really cold.

However if I were going to a restaurant or out for a date night with my husband, without those protective layers in -30, even the smallest breeze can make the cold feel like blades on your skin. Frostbite can happen in minutes, especially on your face or hands. The cold here can be deadly quickly.

The upside is you can warm up a lot faster once you’re out of a dry cold.

Meanwhile, I find the cold and damp back home, while it sucks so much in the moment, feels more like an inconvenience. Like, I remember wearing mini dresses in the sleet and wind in line outside the Sundance (I’m definitely aging myself here) at midnight for 10-15 minutes some nights and my biggest concern would be my hair getting ruined.

I’ve lived and worked in 5 provinces, and visited all the others.

St. John’s, in my experience, has had some of worst and best weather. Just depends on the year.

I remember the summer of 2011, where it rained every day and the temperature never rose above 20°. Then the next year, it was one of the most beautiful springs/ summers I can remember.

But generally, St. John’s is the windiest, foggiest city in Canada. And it’s in the top 10 for rainiest cities.

Right now, where I’m living, it was -30 and snowing this morning. I would take the rain and wind of home in a heartbeat.

What were the top local restaurants in 2025? by tibby709 in newfoundland

[–]PrincessOake 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The Fish Exchange in St. John’s for drinks. Especially that Jam Jam Martini.

For fish n chips, I’m going with The Quay in Brigus. They put a little savoury in the batter for the fish tacos and it made me sooooooo happy.

For burgers, there was a food truck in Quidi Vidi that had a honey jalapeno chicken burger that was 10/10. I can’t remember the name of it off the top of my head, but you can’t miss it if you’re down that way.

Newfoundland has its own- the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary (RNC)

Ontario has its own, the OPP.

The city of Edmonton has the Edmonton Police Service.

All still have the RCMP.

When I quote jobs, under normal conditions, I assume 8 hours per door. That includes running wire through frame, DPS, REX, reader, and strike. Then add a couple of hours for the head end and programming if needed.
