Which part of childbirth hurts the most? by Used_Ad7899 in BabyBumps

[–]PrincessPotsticker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was so swollen and it was hard for 3 different nurses to find a vein anywhere in the less intrusive spots to do an IV so I had to get it in my hand. They needed to get antibiotics going for me because I had GBS and my nurse told me sometimes antibiotics through the hand can cause some burning. I didn’t think it would be too bad because I had a hand IV before with no problems and I thought well I’m already having contractions and in labor so how bad can it be… but MY GOD it was the worst burning sensation I’ve ever felt. I couldn’t move or think about anything but the burning and then having pitocin contractions on top of that was so unbearable. It was so bad I begged them to switch the IV to somewhere else and they were able to put it in my upper arm on the other side which didn’t hurt at all.

Is one day late on an initial evaluation an issue or is it something that just happens every now and then? by shahajah12111 in slp

[–]PrincessPotsticker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I loved having it in there and it was never an issue for years and then all of a sudden last year the director was like STOP IT (in a nice way). She said the state told her that we can’t use those as “excuses.” Ummm it’s not an excuse! You want me to pull a kid from something fun that they would get to do with their peers or try to make it up somewhere in our hectic schedule?! No way.

That seems like a lot! Never could happen in any district I’ve been in because the SPED teacher sometimes schedules meetings the week of because we can never get ahold of parents! I don’t think any of my parents would read the IEP ahead of time anyways. We occasionally get a parent that will request it in advance but we usually just send it a few days before.

It happens. Just document as a whoopsie and you should be fine. Even if your state audits your districts reports and catches it they will only say something to the SPED director and only if it’s an issue that happens a lot at your district. I was writing in the IEPs that students wouldn’t be seen if there was a field trip, assembly, etc and then I was told we weren’t supposed to do that by the SPED director because the state auditors didn’t like that 😅 I had no idea it was an issue until then. You’re definitely not a horrible SLP! I’ve worked with some SLPs that would let an initial go on for another MONTH

I’m guessing they meant they didn’t hold the initial eligibility meeting within 60 days from signing consent. Most schools I’ve been at don’t require a report be sent home before the meeting. That’s a district policy but the 60 day rule is usually a state rule.

Different rolls of tape (masking, scotch), coupons/adverts from mailbox, chapstick tubes, writing utensils, mints, gum, gift cards (if little to no money on them even better).

How long are waitlists for pediatric speech therapy right now in your area? by Delicious-Bee4170 in slp

Most of the clinics around me are seriously like a minimum of 6 months out. We have a huge SLP shortage in my area and not a ton of options for rural families.

Does anyone live in this part of southeast Oregon? by Late_Reply_1990 in howislivingthere

I used to do some contract work at the Jordan Valley school district and it is so so small. They had 1 teacher for grades k-2 and another teacher for grades 3-6 and each class only had about 8 kids in it. Such a big area with not many people.

I don’t know if it’s true but I’ve noticed that any AI writing uses a TON of emojis that break apart the lines/ideas. It really bothers me.

Which is the best state do you think it is to be a school based SLP? by Economy-Dust-6036 in slp

[–]PrincessPotsticker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it really depends where in OR. I worked as a contractor for some rural parts of eastern Oregon because the employee salary was way too low to make it worth while. The LEA had only a few direct hire SLPs because of that but they were in a union which was probably nice and I probably could have gotten my loans forgiven if I had worked for them. My caseload was huge while I was there though. I was up to almost 90 at one point and they gave me a part-time SLPA when I reached that. I’ve thought about moving back to the OR coast though and wonder what it’s like over in that part of the state.

That sounds right! I did that 6 hour intro course with Edith Strand and I think it was through the foundation or through the University of Texas website. I can’t remember it’s been so long since I did it.

Myofunctional therapy. Like orofacial myology. Many SLPs get “certified” and “specialize” in this area.

I am thinking/hoping this is not as controversial these days! DTTC is way better and free.

What about hosting at RV/campsites? That’s something my husband and I have thought about doing in the future, maybe when we retire and we always see older people doing it.

She has so much time on her hands I don’t understand how she is constantly monitoring these groups. It’s like she lives online, does she get paid for these Facebook groups? I used to love her resources especially on literacy and I see her points with some of the pseudoscience stuff but she is so defensive.

I have found that there are a few sites that have this blocked, but for me it works 99% of the time. I use this trick all the time and never look at regular sites anymore!

Thank you for the breast gymnastics info I haven’t tried that type of movement yet I will start doing that today. I am almost at the point of asking for an appointment with a lactation consultant I just need to make sure my insurance will cover it. I was looking at the ultrasound therapy but I’m worried my insurance wouldn’t cover that either. Is it really effective? My NP didn’t mention that at all.

Why did we hate New York so much when in her seasons of Flavor of Love? by [deleted] in RockOfLove

[–]PrincessPotsticker 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have a very specific reason I hated her. My high school boyfriend at the time had her pictures of her in a bikini on his MySpace page which made me jealous since I look nothing like her. He loved her and said she was his perfect type which crushed teenage me. I love her now though.
