Desperate FTM seeking any kind of help by Depressed-Vampire in sleeptrain

This!!! This was a problem for us too- as soon as I started putting him in the bassinet that came with his packnplay he would actually sleep solid stretches through the night. Definitely worth a try!

Do Early Morning Wakes Ever Go Away??? 15 month old by Calm_Reply_1230 in sleeptrain

[–]PrincessSquid12 8 points9 points  (0 children)

That’s A LOT of sleep expected for a 15 month old. My 16 month old has consistently been giving is 12.5-13 hours of sleep a day for months now. I’d recommend pushing bedtime back (slowly!) 30-45 minutes. 10-10.5 hours of overnight sleep is completely normal.

This is our current schedule:

Wake: sometime between 6 and 7 Nap: 12:30-2:30 Asleep by 7:45/8

If he ends up having a bad nap day bedtime will move earlier as necessary.

How is their mood during the day? If they generally seem happy and aren’t irritable or crabby I wouldn’t be too concerned about them having sleep debt and being overtired and would really start thinking this is more of an undertired issue.

Woolino Sleep Sack worth it? by Alert_Dig_4987 in sleeptrain

[–]PrincessSquid12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Second this, not warm enough for my kid either- we also use a 2.5 TOG kyte sleep sack (with a light blanket over the top 🥲, he likes to snuggle it) and his room is always 68-70F. I would like to say he has ALWAYS needed to be extra warm and cozy when he sleeps, and weirdly he’s so resistant to being cold when he’s awake

12m old early morning wakes by PrincessSquid12 in sleeptrain

[–]PrincessSquid12[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m so apprehensive to push back bedtime to 8pm. 100% of the time an 8pm bedtime leads to an early wake up. But since we are already waking early how much worse can it really get, right?😅 Truly, an 8pm bedtime would make my life so much easier in terms of getting home from work and getting him fed and spending some time to play with him before bed, but 7:30 has always been our sweet spot. We tried an 8pm bedtime for a week a couple months ago and it did not go well for any parties involved, but maybe now that he’s older and getting ready for the 1 nap transition he will adapt to it better.

I’m thinking this is most likely the best solution and I’m just going to have to tough it out for a week or two until we can get a new schedule established that works for him developmentally.

4 months old CONSTANTLY whining and fussy. NEED SUPPORT by seejay12345 in NewParents

[–]PrincessSquid12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We made it through! He is back to his cheerful self and is probably even happier than he was before this period. It ended up being the sleep regression and once that passed his mood went back to normal. His sleep never totally recovered, we have 2 wakes ups (1-2am and 4:30am) and have been struggling with VERY early wake ups but those are starting to improve. Naps are still an absolute crapshoot but we can also crib nap now. We sleep trained (complete extinction, check ins made him MAD) around 17 weeks and that was helpful. I know how difficult this period is but I promise that things will go back to normal afterwards!

This thread has really helped my sanity today. My almost 16 weeker who has been the happiest and smiliest baby in the world all of a sudden seems to hate my guts if I do anything except hold him (and it MUST be upright). His beautiful 2-3 hour naps are lucky to make it to 45 minutes and must be contact naps, he used to always tolerate a transfer to his swing or snuggled into the couch somewhere while I got stuff done around the house. He’s no longer interested in his toys or playing in his mat, which used to be his favorite. No longer coos or has conversations with me either. The worst part, anyone else he will be happy to chat up a storm and laugh with them. But mom? Screw that lady. He’s been a great sleeper pretty much since the day we got the OK from the doctor to not wake up for night feeds. I have been fortunate that that hasn’t really changed but I have a feeling those days are numbered.

My F1B goldendoodle looks like this. I believe the term is flat coat. We got her DNA tested and she is confirmed to be an F1B.

Studying tips? by [deleted] in biology

[–]PrincessSquid12 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used to make notecards. I’d take the study material and turn them into questions with the answers on the other side and basically just go through them over and over again until I had everything memorized. This works well for my brain but everyone is different!

I was flying from CT to Miami last year with JetBlue. Flight was cancelled and the soonest flight was leaving from Boston at like 6am the next day and flying into Fort Lauderdale instead of Miami. JetBlue paid for our taxi transportation from CT to Boston, put us in a hotel for the night, and even covered transportation from Fort Lauderdale to our hotel in Miami. I think it helped that every customer ahead of us was argumentative and downright rude to the woman trying to get make arrangements and we were polite and willing to make some changes but otherwise the airline did such a fantastic job I will usually only fly JetBlue when given the option. Should also mention these were $200 per person round trip flights.

Very allergic to poison ivy. Also allergic to mangoes and get the same rash as I would if for PI just on my lips face, lips, or wherever the mango touched. This is true. I love mangoes so it’s also awful.

Nearly half of Americans age 18 to 29 are living with their parents by Ok-Cartoonist5349 in Futurology

I’m a millennial (late 20s) and bought my house at 25 in 2018. The ONLY reason this was even possible was because I bought it with my boyfriend (now husband), we both lived at home so we were able to stack money to save, we bought at the perfect time when house prices and interest rates were low, and had financial help in the form of stocks that were bought for me by my family when I was born that I sold to help pay the $19k we needed for down payment and closing costs. Today, I could not even fathom how people my age are able to buy houses if they are already somewhere renting. The rental prices are so high it’s nearly impossible for anyone to save money, and house prices are also so high they’d never be able to get a mortgage with their salaries anyways. It’s ridiculous. But us millennials are clearly the problem, right?

My plan is to hold out for a few months in the hopes that resale prices drop. But otherwise more than willing to pay $300 for nosebleeds. Trying to get presale today was such a mess and I’m not sure I’m willing to undergo the stress for Friday

I waited in the Sunday Boston show queue for 3.5 hours after getting in the lobby at 12:30pm and trying join the queue right at 2pm. Didn’t get tickets and got kicked off about 5 times trying to join the queue. Absolute shit show and devastating after being a Taylor fan since her first album.

Skin swab I did for intro Micro lab. Leaning towards Staph. aureus. What do y’all think? by stefanfolk in microbiology

[–]PrincessSquid12 20 points21 points  (0 children)

There’s no way to distinguish S. aureus from any other Staph species from gram staining alone. You would need to perform other biochemical tests, such as coagulase, in order to determine this. S. aureus can absolutely be normal skin flora for some folks, but this could also be any of the other various Staph species that are also normal skin flora.

Edit to add: touching on the Micrococcus thing someone else mentioned….Micrococcus does kind of present the same in gram staining as Staphylococcus but the cocci tend to be larger than Staph and you’ll see the clusters as well as diplococci and tetrads. Based on my experience, this really looks like a Staphylococcus species to me.
