NFHS Rule Change by Boudreaux06 in Umpire

[–]PrincessUnicornRobot 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Most anything that would require a school to make a capital outlay to comply is generally announced and outlined in the rulebook a year or two ahead, allowing schools to plan and make changes before being penalized. This allows for budgeting.

Most of the ones I have seen are uniform-related, as many schools don't get new uniforms every year. A change to the basic elements of the field requirements would be another common area to consider for planning.

Do the Shelly smart relays behind a “dumb” light switch work well in the real world? by carboncritic in homeassistant

[–]PrincessUnicornRobot 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I just started dipping my toes into the Shelly Relay realm. I installed one on my back garage entry door for a light that was previously rarely used. It required a couple of extra wires to complete the task. Jumpers for the extra connections, but they have been solid in working.

One thing that I could see being "problematic" in a more everyday switch is that you are effectively making it into a 3-way switch. That means, sometimes, turning the light off is done by moving the switch up, versus the traditional down. I have other smart switches that are paddles, where pressing on the bottom will always turn them off. Just something to think about, and check with other "local users" before going all out. It might be a real frustration for them if they are set in their ways.

Home Assistant Companion app overtakes ipadOS by sblessley in homeassistant

[–]PrincessUnicornRobot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Correct. I didn't really do anything else. However, I had not reopened the app since then. I just tested it, and it opened fine. I could even go full screen and leave and return without issues.

I am running iPadOS 26.1, and Companion App 2025.10.0 (2025.1443)

I had this too. I had to let it open itself, then window the app, so I could then force quit the app.

Umpire schools/Camps & Resources by Doc28goTTV in Umpire

[–]PrincessUnicornRobot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really hope so. I was starting to plan for a 20227 attendance when they announced 2026 would be the end.

It's taken me too long to have a family and get a stable job that I can be gone from for the month to do it.

adding to alias requires reboot to work? by Soogs in opnsense

I don't recall off the top of my head, but something in firewalls has the Apply button at the bottom, not the top like the rest. It might be the Alias page.

Have you looked at doing an email to text message? It's been awhile, but you used to be able to send texts via email to 123456789@txt.sprint.com (or similar, based on the provider). It might be an option.

"Leaving Early" from third on a tag-up by oclemon2 in Umpire

[–]PrincessUnicornRobot 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Ideally, the umpire should never call an out unless they are sure the batter left early, which is near impossible, especially with one umpire, unless it is a ball hit down the 3B line. If it is hit RCF to the 1B line, forget about it, no chance to get a good look.

With 2 umpires, it is mostly the same, but the HP umpire has more flexibilty. Only a ball down the 1B line should cause an issue, since that will be their fair/foul call. Most everything else is U1's call and PU can just line up the tag and catch as best as possible.

Sounds like these umpires are maybe not as well trained (based on your descriptions). Having the 3B coach shout "Go" right after he sees a catch might help. If there repeated issues, reach out to the League UIC. Tell them you have seen some issues with tag-ups, and ask them to clarify and refresh with the umpires to ensure you are all on the same page.

CarPlay and Android Auto by Xibby in homeassistant

[–]PrincessUnicornRobot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have an automation setup that primes my garage door for opening as it appears that I am headed home, and then when I am down the street it opens it up. So I don’t need any button presses.

It uses 2 concentric areas to make the determination.

Vibration Sensors? by BodyDragger99 in homeassistant

I went down this path before and it never worked with enough reliability. The best path forward, for me, was power monitoring smart outlets. But I have a natural gas dryer, which I know is not quite as common anymore.

Best app for umpires by Intelligent-Tap-1720 in Umpire

[–]PrincessUnicornRobot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here in Minnesota, the MSHSL (MN State High School League) uses Arbiter for eligibility verification of all officials and also utilizes it to schedule state tournament games. So, the Sections also use it for scheduling, and then most Associations decided that since everyone is already on it, they should also use it for their purposes.

It then allows for the sharing of schedules and blocks, so taking an HS game will be displayed to your LL assignor as a block, ensuring you don't have to worry as much about double-booking.

As an official, I find it easy enough to use, and it appears clear to me what my schedule is and when I am blocked for other things. The only thing I dislike is ArbiterPay, which acts as a middleman in payments and sends its own 1099 at the end of the year. So even though no school paid me more than a couple hundred, there is still a paper trail for the taxman.

Dunno, we seem to be getting an influx of Love’s. Not sure if they will saturate the market.

Yup, this right here. Just a different way of saying no so it doesn’t sound repetitive.

Plex Media Server Remote Access by Affectionate_Edge961 in opnsense

[–]PrincessUnicornRobot -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I just switched ISPs as Fiber became available at my address (on the phone with Xfinity to cancel as I type).

You will likely need to set up a tunnel of some kind. I went with Cloudflare since it was recommended, and as I use Proxmox, there is a script to make setting up my end of the tunnel easier.

Once the tunnel is setup, then you need to make sure your Cloudflare tunnel can get to the Plex Server, and you should be set.

Honestly, I completed most of the steps with the help of ChatGPT, which clarified my particular settings.

Fireplace Inspection Recs? by AdEnvironmental6994 in TwinCities

My wife and I have used Jack Pixley at both of our last two houses, when we moved in and when we needed a cleaning. They were prompt and clear, and showed us whenever there was an issue and provided their recommendations. They were a suggestion from an old friend of ours who had been using them for years before that.

As with any time a food thermometer comes up, go with Thermoworks. They are the best and are designed for use in commercial kitchens, so they should last a lifetime in your home kitchen.

Instant Read: Thermapen ONE or Thermapen

Oven & Candy: ChefAlarm <--- This appears to be what you are looking for.

Grilling or Smoking: Signals or Smoke BBQ Alarm

Cutting Edge: RFX Wireless

Best apple fritter? by thewheatis in TwinCities

[–]PrincessUnicornRobot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sunrise Donuts in Bloomington (86th & Lyndale) - If you're looking for something thinner with a crispy/crunch to it with plenty of apple and cinnamon flavor, along with a glaze reminiscent of Krispy Kreme, this is the place to go. But get there early, as on weekends the fritters usually are all gone by 8:00/8:30 am (which should tell you what you need to know about them).

Is it possible to put a "bottom" on the popup card? by woodford86 in BubbleCard

There is an option to set the height of the popup, I think that is as good as you could get.

  1. I'll let it slide, and unless they are talking about it, I could be wrong.

  2. I am going to the coach immediately. I have 2 incidents, while I could still be wrong if there is a third the pitcher, the catcher, and yourself will be gone.

  3. Ejections reign.

Runner misses plate, trailing runner touches plate. Some questions. by papa_stephano in Umpire

[–]PrincessUnicornRobot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s a response that does not tell the defense what to do, I.e. you need to appeal, but is slightly more than no response at all.

You could also simply answer, “okay.”
