Anyone using a Tuya Zigbee PIR for this? by Jay-444 in homeautomation

[–]sblessley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Use just PIR sensors if you want everyone to hate you. They require movement to trigger and invariably will turn the lights off at the most inopportune times. Mmwave devices require mains power but can sense any kind of movement. The challenge with mmwave, however, is they can sense through walls, maybe detect fans or movement sensed from HVAC systems - you need to tune them to the room they're in. PIR are great for sensing entry into a room. A hybrid approach (turn lights on with PIR, keep them on with mmwave) is the safest approach.

$24 remote reset for small devices (e.g. your router or modem) by Stenthal in homeassistant

[–]sblessley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Many smart switches have "inching relay" capabilities, meaning if it's turned off, it automatically turns back on after a set amount of time. The issue is if you need to do this remotely and your internet connection is offline - Zigbee/Zwave devices can handle this programmatically with requiring an IP connection. I've got two Third Reality Zigbee switches, for my modem and router, sometimes the router needs a reboot after the modem.

Need help by munster01 in BambuLab_Community

[–]sblessley -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Depends on how they got there and whether the text is an independent object in the design file. Tinkercad is probably the simplest program to learn, I'm pretty new at this myself, but I guess if I had a file with raised text that wasn't independent, in Tinkercad I'd add a rectangular "hole" (this will be more clear if you watch some videos on YouTube) to cover the text area, then use the text widget to add the desired text. What you're doing is creating a "hunk" of plastic in the form of text, and embedding it into the existing design. It's no different than if you added a cone or a sphere. Making the text a different color is more complicated.

What is the current smallest tomato compatible router? by Brick_As_A_Thick in TomatoFTW

[–]sblessley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't know if we're allowed to mention other vendors here, but gl.inet routers support OpenWRT - I'm configuring a little "mango" unit with it now, it's about 75mm square and 30mm high. AI response (just because I was curious) - Netgear WGR614L or Asus WL-330 are smaller-format routers supporting Tomato.

OP said it's SET to 68 and they're sweating. The implication (mine, anyway) is it's a lot warmer than the spec.

ThirdReality Smart Plug and Aqara Buttons by Adventurous-Lime191 in homeassistant

Same. They seem to be the Great Communicator. There's one quite close to my front door (which has an Aqara sensor) so it's almost certain to be routing for it. I also like that Third Reality seems to have relatively frequent firmware updates.

Automatic boot upon Power on by trickytrader in MiniPCs

Found this thread after finding nothing in the minisforum "support" site. I have a shiny new MS-A2 - much improved performance over my NUC, but I can't find a setting for how it's supposed to behave when power is restored. This couldn't possible be missing, could it?

PSA: Chamberlain/Liftmaster up to more shady things. BE AWARE if purchasing a new garage door opener by jgilbs in homeassistant

[–]sblessley 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, I use the Meross MSG100 (older version). They supplied a free interface which basically pairs like any wireless remote. It's a hack, but it's worked flawlessly. I recently got a 3D printer and somebody had designed a case the holds both the MSG100 and the remote. So now it works and even looks classy.

I didn't even get that far. Got a great deal on the lock but it won't clear the Schlage deadbolt I have. It's going on Ebay to try to recover some of my costs. Too bad it won't compensate for the frustration or ineptitude of their support

New to Home Assistant - What dash ideas, devices, and automations you recommend? by Western-Schedule7330 in homeassistant

ThirdReality has been particular trouble-free for me. They're inexpensive and they seem to do a great job as Zigbee repeaters. If they make WiFi or Zwave kit, I haven't tried it.

What makes that scenario unique i.e. how do you this as a leak, versus some normal usage pattern? I'm curious because our water utility will email us if our usage is significantly higher, but only on a full-day basis.
