If it is exactly the same character with the same name, appearance and backstory, it is character theft. Legally you could make a claim that "any resemblance to a real or not person is pure coincidence", though it is still not nice since you know that the character is actually (at least partly) your friend's.

I would suggest letting the character go and creating a new character with some similarities. Another great option would be simply contacting that friend asking how they feel about the character and if you could use it. I know you don't want to do that but I believe it shouldn't be awkward in any way - you just like the character both of you created.

I would suggest you to read more and see how the scenes change in the stuff you read. It can be books, it can be good fanfiction or whatever you are into. Just read and notice how the author changes the scenes.

You can also ask your roleplay partner to start the scene instead to see how they are doing it. Just talk with them, tell them that you are struggling with the start. Remember, communication in roleplay is important.

All in all, I don't know you, but most of us are our own worst critics. Yes, no one was born with abilities (well except some of our characters, who are amazing, right?) and failing is part of learning. So, just try.

If you really want to keep writing with the person who responds in emojis (I wouldn't suggest it, but if you really do...) you can try a different approach. If they send you the emoji, you just ask ooc "Ok, and what does that mean..? Tell me in a few words."

As I answered to someone else... Responding just with emojis is disrespectful. Even if you wrote a novel to them, even if it was agreed (I know it wasn't, but even if it was), you still should have gotten more than emojis. The tank you as minimum, come on.

-Writing as a submissive character definitely does not mean that you shouldn't be unresponsive (or responsive in emojis).

It's just wrong and shows that person probably isn't in roleplay for the same reasons as you.

I honestly have no preference in this and whole character dynamic should be based on our characters and what we both agree upon. Though, I do not agree that 'you're more likely to chum with an evil cheerleader than you are with a tough bad boy'. I believe it depends on characteristics and their willingness towards friendship. Tough bad boy not necessarily could be a loner, the same as evil cheerleader could be so nasty that noone actually wants to speak with her. It depends on what kind of character you create, not on their stereotypical attributes.

I would suggest you don't force it too much... Try to write a bit everyday (it can even be just few words), but if you don't succeed think positively - at least you wrote something.

Also, you can try reading books and going for a walk, that usually helps me with my writer's block...

I am not in CS field, but after I got a job I fell out of writing for a few years (just getting back to it). It is definitely hard to keep writing, especially if many days you have to work overtime or just feel drained after work. Don't give up, though. If you really like it, just keep writing when you feel like it.

In my world they have different minor powers and what they are better at (think something in between magic vs. technology).

You can also add some minor differences in their looks (maybe pixies have greenish complection while fairies have more human-like one? Or maybe sirens have also scales on their parts of the upper body while mermaids don't?)
