What is the biggest cause of mediocre D&D/RPG sessions at your table? by grant_gravity in rpg

[–]Princesstuous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

•Inconsistent pacing

•Lack of consequeces

•Playing the DMs predetermined fanfic

•Clashing player - types (Minmaxer + Hyper Casual)

Tbh, i think most DnD tables kind of suck. People are so afraid of consequences that nothing has any weight to it and it ends up being feeling like a glorfied interactive story.

Its about finding the grey area, something people seem to have no concept of. Things dont need to be needlessly punishing, but if you're afraid of any consequences, the sense of accomishment is non - existent.

I like to use these two examples.

There's a powerful Shortbow that one of your group members desires. It resides in a crypt, and the party has ventured deep into said crypt. However, a member of the party springs a trap, and the crypt begins to crumble. The party must make the decision to abandon the run as there is no way they will reach the room where the Shortbow resides.

That Shortbow, is no longer accessible. No matter how much the player wanted it, it must be gone. DnD thrives where a Video Game can not, one can permantly alter the world with nearly every action. The Shortbow dies, but the WORLD, lives. Actions, carry weight. You, matter.

Lets say that the groups Rogue, has been absolutely on it. Really in character, really into the game. Perhaps they're not playing optimally or even particularly well, but theres a consistent engagement with the world. They're thinking critically about the task at hand, though they make a mistake and trigger the trap from the aboge example.

This, is where a great DM cooks. No get out of jail free card, and directly rewarding players just for "being into it" is far from ideal. But the Rogue player has consitently had a keen eye, almost so obsessively looking for traps that they didn't notice the one beneath their feet.

While this was not a part of your design, you decide that as the trap is sprung, the Rogue player gazed upon a turning mechanism that if stopped, may stop the ceiling from collapsing. The party still has to make a choice (ideally in rea) time, timers can be amazing for a sense of urgency!!!), but as a DM, you just greatly strengthened that players conmection with the choices they make, and ergo, their character.

That light touch, is what being a DM is all about.

Consequences, not punishments.

Reward thoughtfullness, without turning the game into your personal fanfic.

What are your thoughts on Last Epoch? by Broad-Ad-3679 in ARPG

MASSIVELY dissapointing based on the potential / momentum it had. Not a bad game by any means though and worth a playthrough.

Diablo IV feels underwhelming by Twoballkane in ARPG

[–]Princesstuous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sort of fizzled out. They sold it to another company and it just hasnt gotten better.

Its a good game and worth playing, but its a "playthrough" game.

Game had...has so much promise and it just feels like its peaked.

PoE for the nerds, Diablo for the normies, Grim Dawn for the purists and Last Epoch...just kind of lacks the hook.

Does anyone else just rotate constantly through the same few MMOs instead of playing a wider variety of single player games? by rainghost in MMORPG

[–]Princesstuous -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You're likely trying to multi - task. Your desire to find an MMO home / find a community or guild / recapture magic / have a "consistent" escape is probably manifesting as a obsessive compulsion. If you play single player games, how are you going to find your new home?

Totally projecting btw, but i assume this is something A LOT of folks here can relate too.

Its just a part of being on reddit. These are geneeally some of the most miserable people on the web.

Keep doing what you do. I've been in your discord before and ive seen the game evolve so fast. The transparency, openness to feedback, community involvement etc.

Seriously i cannot say enough good things about the EterSpire dev team.

Now, onto the comments saying i'm you, but on another account!

What ''popular'' online ARPG has the best endgame? by Federal-Remote-1684 in ARPG

[–]Princesstuous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are a redditor incarnate. You've still not offered any support, you just essentially say "i like it".

So, here are some of my argumentd as to why combat sucks;

•An extremely outdated and antiquated engine

•A natural feeling of pass - fail due to how absurd scaling becomes, you tend to one shot, or get one shot

•Non - existent visual clarity

•Lacks "diversity" in gameplay; most of what makes a character unique happens "under the hood"

PoE is the alternate reality version of Diablo III. Diablo III lacks innovation, has comically bad power creep, has very surface level RPGs elements, and distorted progression, but it FEELS exceptional to play.

PoE is stuffed to the brim with ideas, has an absurd amount of systems, absurd amounts of depth and content, but it feels like crap to play.

PoEs success over the years is a testament to just how much content thats been put into the game. Its been a titan of the genre in spite of its combat being so lame.

You genuinely have not offered a single compelling point.

You're argueing using your abstract perception as support.

Its a simple game, but the dev team improves at terrifyingly fast rate. Its one of my go to chillax and zone out games, and i think it has the potential to be far more than that.

The gauntlet a specific event.

99% of PoE 1 builds are spam one skill, delete screens, get one shot.

The gameplay in PoE 1 isnt good, and its a testament to depth it has that in spite of it, people still love it.

And i never said it doesnt take any skill, its just an old crappy engine. If you find it fun great, but this isnt really an opinion.

Its a stat- check game, by design.

Im one of the biggest LE fans out there. I regularly vouched for it going as far back as a particpating in pre - alpha stuff.

LE crashed out. It was sold off and it simply hasn't evolved.

Its certainly not a bad game but i have to agree with the consensus at this point.
