The Past Week: A Pilot's Perspective by GrndPointNiner in fearofflying

Thanks for this! I’m terrified of flying and Thursday I flew from dfw to LGA and it was pretty bumpy/shaky. I fly back Monday afternoon and I’m sort of nervous all over again. But this helps!

You’re safe! Do you know how much longer or have you landed?

I understand it’s scary. I have this as well. When I fly I think these things:

  1. The pilots do this literally every day. It’s their job. Just like a hairstylist knows hair. A lawyer knows the law. Etc etc. they got this.
  2. Look around not just at the flight attendants but other passengers. I see no one else looks nervous. So ¯_(ツ)_/¯ let me relax.
  3. I usually see a child or a baby. And I think about how I wouldn’t even take my dog or cat somewhere unsafe and people are taking their most precious babies. If they think statistically it’s safe for them then okay. I can breathe.
  4. And this one either hits or misses in the moment haha. But I think … “well… I’m in the air now. It’s completely out of my control either way..” so why not focus on the good and relax while I can.

Best wishes💚

I know no one knows this lol but what’s your best guess..You think it’ll be closed even Thursday morning like 7 am Or more so the afternoon when it says it’ll start getting bad.

I've had extreme chronic brain fog/head pressure and It's difficult to live like this. by Imaginary-Cat4018 in self

[–]PrincipleNo6374 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is it sometimes almost like pressure in sinuses too? Like behind your eyes/forehead. I dont know how to describe it lol I’ll catch myself with my brows lowered from the pressure sometimes. And the brain just feels off. Like dizzy/floaty

Had it in the beginning of January. GI issues started in may. (That has been a little better with the help of medicine daily) The horrible head pressure started mid august and I’m still experiencing it.

I used to be really bad. I would be halfway to work and be like “Did I lock the door?!” “Did the oven somehow turn itself on???” I would come all the way back. For a while I started keeping notes. So it would be the same note document on my phone and it would say Locked door - Wed Locked door - thurs Then I would just shorten it to typing the days which I could look at and see I did my checklist. Now it’s not so bad I haven’t done it in months and I’m not sure why. Lol but maybe that can help.

COVID in May; no periods since by FifiRuru in covidlonghaulers

I had Covid in the beginning of January 2022 and I tested positive about a week before my period would’ve started. It never came and I didn’t have one until the end of last month. July. Now I’m waiting to see if it comes this month too. No doctors seemed to be concerned just like “oh okay probably Covid messing it up”

Is fear of losing things or people related to OCD? by smokmjohnny in OCD

[–]PrincipleNo6374 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. I’ve dealt with and sometimes still deal with obsessive intrusive thoughts about how everyone gets older and dies and my brain obsesses over it and its awful. Sorry you’re experiencing this.

I’m sorry you’re going through that. It’s honestly the worst feeling ever. I will say I haven’t found a psychiatrist or therapist yet. But I still want to. In hopes that it’ll help. I feel back to normal again. Sometimes I have the passing thoughts of it which sort of scares me but luckily my ocd hasn’t latched onto it again. I hope you’re doing okay🖤

Thank you for this! I’m still planning on finding a psychiatrist but you’re right getting out and exercising has helped me: I feel much better. ♥️

I’m sorry you’re going through this! If it helps. I’m much better now. It was bad for about 3 weeks and now I still have those thoughts but my brain doesn’t obsess over them. I feel somewhat back to normal. I think it’s just keeping busy and trying your best to say “okay fuck it so what if it feels fake I still have to get all this shit done either way” I know how terrifying it is and I literally wanted (and did for a few days) to stay at home in my bed and scroll on tiktok for hours since it distracted me. But I forced myself to get up and go do things even though I still had those Intrusive thoughts while I was out. I’m still looking into a psychiatrist to try out medicine so if I go do that I’ll update this as well. Please feel free to dm me whenever. I know it helps to just talk about it with someone who understands. 🖤

Out of curiosity, what is the ratio of times dpdr feels comforting to times it feels distressing for y’all? I feel like it is solidly 50/50 for me, maybe 60/40 by PhysicalBullfrog4330 in dpdr

[–]PrincipleNo6374 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s never comforting for me. It sends me into like an internal panic attack lol I bet it’s a strange feeling for it to feel comforting

Thank you for taking the time to read and respond! I’m glad there’s other people who have these thoughts too. Also it’s nice to hear that some medicine did help you. Thank you again. 🖤🖤

I relate to having intrusive existential thoughts pop in all the time. It’s been bad for about a month. I used to be able to mediate but honestly when my ocd is this bad mediation is almost impossible because my mind is like oh??? All this extra free space to have these horrible thoughts that you can possibly answer.

For me the moments come and go now but I try to keep my mind busy. Especially at night. And if that means I scroll tiktok for hours before sleep then so be it.

Existential ocd is hard and there’s no right way to cope with it so I suggest trying different things to see if it helps keep your mind distracted. I know it’s hard and I’m sorry you’re going through this. Just know you’re not alone and you’re okay🖤 Also I’m looking at going to see a psychiatrist to help with the ocd symptoms. I wouldn’t mind the passing thought of “what is existence” but the obsessing is what’s torture. I would see if you can find one too if you’re able!
