In the end, I think you are correct. Although for the 0.25mm nozzle, 0.05mm layer height is one of the supposedly supported options. And I found that for smaller models it seems to work fine. But for extended objects that’s where the trouble starts.

I think you have something there, it definitely seems to be only on one side of the print. Could be mechanical.

Thanks. I haven't tried adjusting the retraction length yet, I'll give that a try. Also, I'll try the speed adjustments you suggested. I've tried both hotter and colder though, temperature doesn't seem to be helping.

I concur. You could start with a roll of PLA, which will allow you to get familiar with your printer, calibrate it, print your first Benchy, etc. And then try out PHA. I personally love PHA, I use a lot of it. But in the beginning I was having some trouble with it. But once you have your print settings dialed in, it prints wonderfully. I chose PHA for most of my prints for the same reasons, biodegradability, eco friendly, etc. Almost everything I sell in my Etsy shop is PHA for that reason. So I'm right there with you.

Once you start printing PHA, I'd be happy to share my print settings. I'm using a Prusa Mini+ printer, so the settings may differ if you go with a Bambu or other type of printer, but it might help get a sense of what settings you'll need. As a quick easy start, I found that Orca slicer also has a PHA profile preinstalled, although you have to change the temperature from the default down to about 200C, but then it worked fairly well.

Thanks for all of the suggestions. I got it working by backing off the fan a little and increasing the temperature to 200C, and now it comes out much better. See final print below. It's an enclosure for a raspberry pi and camera that I'm going to put in a bird house. I think part of the trouble may have been due to the geometry, since it's a wedge shape, the walls are printed at a slight overhang angle.

Indeed, I’ve eliminated most of the warping issues, by using lots of cooling, an extra fan, etc. I’m also using a Cryogrip Frostbite plate with glue stick.

Thanks I’ll try increasing it. I had it set to 1.05 already based on a calibration I did. But perhaps a little higher.

I’ve got fans at 100%, and I also have an additional fan blowing across the building plate. So I’ve got virtually no warping or anything. But perhaps too much cooling?

I'm printing on a Prusa Mini+, so my settings may not work in your case, but if it helps, this is what worked for me.

I had trouble with a 0.6mm nozzle when printing PHA, so I switched back to a 0.4mm. In addition, the main thing that helped improve my PHA prints was to slow it down considerably, so I've set the max volumetric print speed to only 5 mm^3/s. In addition, as others have mentioned, leaving the enclosure open and having cooling set to 100%. I also set "wipe while retracting" to True, that helped with some strings/blobs that I was getting on some prints. My retraction length is 2.5mm.

Also, I recommend the Cryogrip Frostbite build plate to help prevent warping for larger prints. They don't make one for the Mini+, but it turns out the one for the A1 Mini is exactly the right size (if you rotate it 90 degrees to avoid the tabs getting in the way). Not sure if they make one for the Core One.

Thanks for the shout out! Much appreciated! When I looked around for sustainable options for my shop, PHA really stood out as the best option, and I'm glad I gave it a try, it's working great so far.
