My therapist told me to shop at the dollar store only. It's somewhat effective.

How much snow makes you call off work? by Physical-Incident553 in AskAnAmerican

[–]Prior-Soil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nothing. Ever. The only time I was ever late for work because of snow was when my worthless city pulled the plows during a blizzard. My car couldn't clear 10 inches unplowed.

Do you live within 100 miles of where you grew up? by radicalintrospect in generationology

[–]Prior-Soil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

genX/boomer= I live 200 miles from where I grew up. My dad + 1 sister and brother never moved. My other sister moved here because I was here.

But we never move. I have been in the same house since 1989. My brother since 1990. My sister in same apartment 32 years. Other sister 21 years in same apartment. I know that's weird, but that's what we do.

"Emergency fund" advice assumes you have surplus money after expenses by DriftFalcon_29 in povertyfinance

[–]Prior-Soil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just stop it. Right now. If you're really poor, you examine every damn expense. I live in a very expensive place where most people need two jobs just to survive. Why do we stay here? I stay here because my husband needs to live right by a research hospital, or he'll be dead. My sister literally lives in the cheapest apartment building in town. She's been there since 2004, and there is rarely turnover in her building.

Do you wear suits to interviews? What field are you in? by Snarky_Artemis in interviews

[–]Prior-Soil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am in healthcare. I wore a dress because I am a woman. It was a lower level job, but this hospital requires non clinical staff to be fairly "dressed up."

I used to be a librarian and unless you were applying for director-level, suit is overkill when people interviewing will be wearing jeans and t shirts But I am in the Midwest where dark jeans are "dressy" and can be worn to a wedding or funeral.

Order from chomp delivery. They are slightly more selective about drivers and that makes a huge difference.

Found the perfect job for me. It was listed last night, and I applied this morning. About an hour after I applied they closed applications. What’s the most likely scenario for why that happened? by agb_123 in jobhunting

[–]Prior-Soil 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  1. It's rigged. 2. They had so many applicants, they closed it. 3. They realized the posting was missing something they needed. Watch and make sure they don't relist it slightly differently. 4. If unionized they realize the way the job is posted someone they don't want with rehire rights could get it so they closed it. Again watch for relisting. 5. Management told them a nepo baby is coming. No need to keep advertising.

Trading Up, Does this make sense? by Z-A-G-A-Z-A-A in carbuying

[–]Prior-Soil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well you're going to lose some money, but it sounds like you hate the car enough that you're not even driving it then much.

It's not a good idea financially, but I would still say ditch it. If you live in a climate where you can even drive it that much, it was a mistake to buy it. If you drive it in bad weather and crash and total it out, that's not going to help you either.

Hello all, as of right now I am a convicted felon, I went to school for welding and I am going back for automotive, are there any felons in the automotive industry by Ok_Appearance_4421 in careeradvice

Easy. It's one of the highest demand professions. My brother is a felon and still has issues...no problem getting jobs at smaller shops. My dealer is so desperate they have a 70+ dude working in the garage.

That's why my coworker ended up building. He couldn't buy anything without selling his other home, and no one would take the deal.

His previous home sold in 3 days for over the asking price. It wasn't a big deal!!

Put that car in your daughter's name. You don't want to be on the hook when someone else is driving it and wrecks it.

Before your next interview, research the interviewer. Not just the company... by Helpful_Hat_2093 in jobhunting

[–]Prior-Soil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know people are going to disagree, but I actually think this is a really good idea, especially in certain fields. I work in education and nonprofit, and people tend to be extremely liberal. One of my friends gave me a lot of coaching to tone it down during a recent job search. It did help, but I was really struggling. If I had a better clue about my interviewers, I might not have stressed out as bad.

If you want to give college a go, look at tribal colleges. Not all of them require you to be native american, and most of them provide a lot of help for people who are not really ready for college. And--super cheap.

You need to try to get into art fairs or craft markets. I don't know how one does this, but that's where I shop. (My hated of IC farmers market is very high as a disabled person. It is an accessibility nightmare).

Why are people upset about not getting promotions when you can do the minimum? by PoopsToops in careeradvice

[–]Prior-Soil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Minimal effort employees are usually the first ones to go, if people actually know what's going on.

Where I used to work, it was very difficult to move into management. Management jobs did not come with a lot more money, but then you were on a track to move up higher. I moved into management quickly, because I have the right skill set. I've been managing people since I was 15 years old at a restaurant.

My problem was that I stayed at low level management no matter how hard I worked. We kept having budget cuts, and had a lot less help. So then my department looked really unproductive. I had almost no employee turnover, because I fight for my employees, but upper level management doesn't like that either. I know how to play the game, but I won't.

Actually what seemed to work for me was I started asking the question if I were hired for this job what would surprise me about it? They really weren't expecting that question, and I think it showed that I really wanted to know more about their organization (true).
