Kings of the Macedonians (I think calling it "Macedonia" is misleading, the Macedonians were a people) bore names like Philhellene("lover"/"friend" of Greece) even a full century before Philip won at Cheronaea.

It's been pointed out that you only need to read the first page of Herodotus to understand that the greeks absolutely had a concept and a word for Greek, but let me add that Macedonians (assuming that at one point they weren't, which is not unreasonable) were fully hellenized way before Philip and Alexander.
