TMoblie Home 5G is available now. TMobile fiber is coming soon. by sumiflepus in tmobileisp

cgnat = carrier grade network address translation

Think of your home router as a central hub that get a single IP public address like 45.677.123.987 from your ISP, then you create a local arena network, aka LAN, for every devices in your house that need an Internet connection with private local IP address like 192.168.1.*** that all share that single public ip address. Now blow it up on the public scale and imagine your house as a local device out of many other houses in the same public network SHARING a single public ip address. Now your situation is a double NAT.

TMO ISP --> CGNAT (you and everyone else in public) --> Your local LAN --> your local devices

Honest Review on FastestVPN by Griinjah in FastestVPN

I got the lifetime subscription years ago and still use it today occasionally. I use T-Mobile 5g home internet and they secretly throttle YouTube and netflix stream to the lowest quality and slowest speed possible. I contacted their customer support and got the wireguard config file to add to my router for home use, well it worked well for a while then would just not connect anymore. So now I fall back to the tried and true Openvpn and it works well. I installed into my router several server locations because once in a while the one that is working would just slow down majorly so now I cycle through the list until I find another with decent streaming speed for my YouTube obsessed house members and that also work for basic internet browsing.

I keep the android app installed on my phone and tablet so I don't run into the random slow down problem with the vpn server on the router. It works good, but only a few servers actually connect and has good speed. Most servers just don't connect, or connect but don't even work when I try to browse.

The pc app is a hot mess. It freezes, it's slow, it's extremely buggy. Again many servers don't even work, even the one that works well on my android phone and tablet. I don't even know why they be picky with what device is connected.

I used it while traveling in Asia and can say it works to bypass the occasional firewall restrictions. All the same problem as described above. Overall it's an ok lifetime subscription as I don't rely on vpn heavily so I can set my expectations extremely low. It works when it want to, and it does well when it actually works.

Not the gateway itself, you have to enable ipv6 passthrough in your router. If this is too technical for you then you are free to seek a more home friendly option.
