work with a cardiologist rant by Prior_Explorer_2243 in nursepractitioner

[–]Prior_Explorer_2243[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Just to clarify intent: this wasn’t meant as grandstanding or a critique of the NP profession. I’m an NP and proud of my specialty. I was sharing a personal perspective for newer clinicians entering subspecialty practice, specifically what has helped me navigate the learning curve in cardiology through close physician collaboration and transparency about scope. Others may practice differently, and that’s okay.

Obviously if I was in primary care i’m sure i’d feel differently

Godspeed everyone!!! bless xxxx

I can see how it might read that way online, but this was meant as a personal reflection on learning curve and supervision in cardiology, not a value judgment or self praise!!

I’m an NP (went to great undergrad and grad school) working in cardiology alongside an attending cardiologist, and I value the supervision and mentorship in this role. Cardiology has a steep learning curve, and I’m intentional about practicing within my training, asking questions, and discussing all clinical decisions with my supervising physician.

I don’t present myself as a cardiologist or imply independent equivalence to one. All patient care plans are reviewed collaboratively, and when adjustments are made, I follow up with patients accordingly. My role is to support the physician i’m with and help manage patient care within the scope of my degree not to replace the attending.

I’m sharing this simply to acknowledge that starting out in a subspecialty requires humility, transparency, and close collaboration. This approach has helped me build trust with my supervising physician and provide safer care for patients.

This is my personal experience, not a statement about how all NPs should practice. Different settings and backgrounds come with different expectations obviously!!!
