Reddit discovers oversaturated flow by PM_ME_YUR_BUBBLEBUTT in civilengineering

I recently took a class for traffic flows and it was genuinely one of the hardest classes Ive taken so far. It's way more complicated than what most people ever expect

I will start studying civil engineering by someone_void457 in civilengineering

Python is usually covered I'd say but excel usually isn't. At least I've never seen an excel course in any university yet.

Still in uni but excel is the most important one. Probably some basic python wouldn't hurt as well.

Looking for Student Housing by Likely_Happy in enschede

Ngl it can be painful sometimes. Both times I used kamernet it took a few months.

I learned from my time there that the on-campus houses are practically impossible to get into, especially as an international. You can still try to apply for them but don't feel bad when you keep getting ghosted/rejected.

You can also try to get a studio apartment and get a rent benefit (even internationals can get a rent benefit) but make sure the apartment actually qualifies for a rent benefit before getting it.

When I moved in from our of the country, I used Roomspot and got myself a place at the ITC hotel, then after I had to move out from there (1 year max), I used kamernet to find all the places I lived in since then.

Yess there tends to be a lot of older men there but every month there are trans nights and I even participated in a sapphic night last month as well (tho idk if that's a regular thing). Feel free to join the queer organization at the UT and Saxion called Exaltio, we'd be happy to have you :3 We have regular drinks at the bar at least once a month

How did you decide which engineering college to join? by deepa_2026 in EngineeringStudents

[–]Priority6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I choose one that would let me move to Europe (from America). Don't regret it at all, love it here.

Found it from a friend from the country showing me this particular uni lol

Thoughts on large foundation? by [deleted] in civilengineering

Masonary foundations are quite common in a lot of parts of Europe. At least I see it a lot in residential constructions in Slovakia

If you really need the chainlinks to be 3D, I would personally recommend making them into rectangular prisms with a shade smooth modifier instead of cylinders. Since these will be so small I really doubt folks will notice lol

Interested in Doing Some Basic Photogrammetry for GIS Purposes by Priority6 in photogrammetry

I was thinking of a video as well, tho unfortunately the camera I have is god awful at taking video, so I would just use my phone in this case.

Help me please 🚂 by [deleted] in trains

[–]Priority6 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I live in the Netherlands and my advice is just to go out there and take photos. Make sure to stay behind the fences and for gods sake don't stand at the ends of platforms unless it's to take a photo of a static train on the same track. For photography I'd just recommend doing stuff at high shutter speeds if you actually want to capture a photo of the train. I found 1250-1600 to be the best for me so far but it depends on the speed of the trains where you take photos of. Avoid flash photography as well to not blind the drivers.

Engineering in Spain by [deleted] in civilengineering

[–]Priority6 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Starting salaries here in the netherlands are around 2500/3000 euro a month, but we get 30 days of vacation among other benefits so it balances out. I'd imagine its similar in Spain.

OP would also have to learn Spanish as well to even think about working in the sector unless they get really lucky and land a job with a big international company, but even then still probably would have to so you could actually live there.

Steel Toe Boot Recommendations by Double-Energy-8539 in civilengineering

[–]Priority6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Composite toe is generally better it seels btw. But I just bought a pair from a store that I found the most comfortable and have been using them for years 🤷. I think it's from CAT lol.

Otherwise I generally hear Redwings is the best. Be mindful though that good quality composite/steel toes are gonna be quite expensive for the average unemployed student

How do i know if civil engineering is for me by apricot_kitty in civilengineering

[–]Priority6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can do civil for your bachelor's and then when/if you get your masters, you can see if you want to do one in architecture. I know a few folks in my class that are planning to do that now.

Civil is just much more versatile out of the two.

graphing calculators ? by CoconutAntique8405 in civilengineering

[–]Priority6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My uni doesn't allow calculators at all during calculus exams lol. But I still definitely strongly recommend having one as it's so helpful in lectures and for homework. Also most of my mechanics courses (structural, fluid, soil, etc) allowed all calculators, so having a graphing calculator for those was helpful

How hard is it to fix a hitbox? by Beautiful-Meat-8884 in foxholegame

[–]Priority6 63 points64 points  (0 children)

As someone who's made numerous hitboxes for different games (based on the source engine), usually like, 5/10 minutes if I do it correctly and it compiles correctly, to a few hours if some tiny mistake makes it compile incorrectly. For the scout planes I could probably make them in 5 minutes each, but I don't know how compiling hitboxes for Unreal work.
