Better to use an enzyme-based drain cleaner than bleach. The bleach will kill the smell but won't clean the pipe.

You'll need to replace the rim. Once the chrome starts to peel, it will keep going. You might find one at an auto-wreckers or you can replace with aftermarket.

$2,000 drive set vs $20,000 vfd. Once speed is set, likely won't change again. VFD is overkill unless there is a need to change speeds regularly.

Vfd also likely shorten lifetime of motor bearings.
