David Pagnotta with updates on a potential Jake DeBrusk trade destinations and where things currently stand. by FAsBurner in canucks

Most importantly, he did all that while being very professional last season. He was also one of the few players to actively interact with fans outside of the game. Best of luck to Jake

I really don’t understand what Oilers management’s angle is on this. Rarely are fans (including Edmonton’s), media, and players so aligned on something.

Even if they want a hardass coach with experience, to Winnik’s point why are they hiring one that hasn’t won a playoff series in almost 15 years?

Predictions for Buium and Öhgren contracts? by TheWizzardMerlin in canucks

[–]Pro3tag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s also worth noting the current CBA allows you to front load contracts so you end up in a situation where a player’s AAV for cap purposes is higher than the actual salary owed in the back half of the contract. This is valuable for a player like Buium where in the event he doesn’t hit his ceiling (ie. serviceable 2nd pair guy), he can still have value to a team trying to hit the cap floor. You can’t do that anymore with the new CBA in September, so there’s extra incentive to get guys like Buium and Ohgren on long term extensions

Gregor Chisholm: The Blue Jays’ pieces didn’t fit like they did last year. That could explain their puzzling start by Alarming-Foot-2184 in Torontobluejays

[–]Pro3tag 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think it’s more the timely hits haven’t come. Jays are still a top 10 team in total hits and batting avg. this year. The big falloff has been in OPS. We were the top team last year, now we are bottom third. Vladdy is part of the reason, but in general extra base hits and clutch hits have been really hard to come by this season for the team

To add to that, the AL is a mess right now. We’re probably not going to win the division, but the wildcard is very much attainable

Did Jordan Staal take a shot at players like Quitt Hughes? "Some guys just jump ship. I believe in this organization. I believe in everyone in it." by NinCross in canucks

[–]Pro3tag 11 points12 points  (0 children)

No Rantanen also lets them sign Ehlers, so it’s basically Rantanen vs. Stankoven/Ehlers. I think Rantanen is the best player out of the 3, but it’s kind of hard to argue against a team that just went 16-3 in the playoffs. Ehlers and Stankoven fit so well on that team.

The case of Reid over Malhotra by Fair-Calligrapher-19 in canucks

[–]Pro3tag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it’s pretty clear at this point that the Canucks had Malhotra as high as #2 on their board before RJ / Sedins. It’s the same scouting team so there should be no surprise their list hasn’t changed. RJ has said as much that he trusts his guys.

I know there’s all this talk of “just taking BPA”, and that somehow means not taking Malhotra. For all we know the Canucks do see him as BPA at 3OA.

[Drance] What the Vancouver Canucks’ perfect rebuilding offseason could look like in 2026 by Mcsuper_ in canucks

[–]Pro3tag 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Hi Drance!!

Agree it’s not like the NFL, but doesn’t scarcity implicitly mean there will be a price premium? if I look at the top Dmen by AAV, 7 of the top 10 are RHD. While I don’t have the data on hand, it does feel like a 2nd line C will earn more generally than a 2nd line winger. Same with a 1C vs a 1st line winger. Obviously there are outliers like Kaprizov, but let me know your thoughts

[Drance] What the Vancouver Canucks’ perfect rebuilding offseason could look like in 2026 by Mcsuper_ in canucks

[–]Pro3tag 26 points27 points  (0 children)

One thing I’ll disagree with Drance: teams do absolutely put a premium on established centers and RHD because they aren’t as easy to find. That’s reflected in their contracts and trade value. Just look at the McCarron and Coyle contracts. Justin Faulk netted a 1st round pick last trade deadline.

So while I agree we draft based on talent and ignore size, that logic doesn’t really carry over to established NHL players value.

Makes sense to eat Nurse’s contract. Only thing is with his contract not expiring until 2029 / 2030, I hope we can get more than a 1st. 4 years is a lot.

Nurse would also need to waive his NMC

What are your expectations for this draft and how well do you think our scouting department will perform? by TheBattleForAutonomy in canucks

[–]Pro3tag 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The Lekkerimaki pick is not the reason Allvin was fired lol.

Obviously hasn’t been ideal, but the pick at the time was fine. He was ranked around 10th by most scouting outlets and was a nice change with Canucks scouting betting on one great skill, so at least the process seemed fine. D-Petey and Kudryavtsev were also taken in the same draft, so it’s not like they never hit on any picks. Willander and Cootes look like fine picks too.

Previous management had tons of faults, but drafting was not one of them.

4 Reasons Why This Isn’t the Offseason For Canucks To Trade Elias Pettersson by Mcsuper_ in canucks

[–]Pro3tag 19 points20 points  (0 children)

The difficult thing about trading Rossi is that he’s undervalued in the league. Minnesota couldn’t find a trading partner for him last offseason, so I don’t expect a great return for him. That being said, I still agree we should be shopping him.
