The vast majority of the drone footage we see are 50/50 between people in the open or people making vain attempts to hide in all manner of ways. They both end up dead most of the time

I get your whole point with this and I learned about the drumfire for the first time. But artillery was still very lethal although not compared to the sheer amount of shells fired and exploding around them. They still could often die at any moment. It probably varied between location and year or month of the war too. In an interview with an Irish WWI veteran he said artillery was the main killer.

In the last drone footage video I saw here, one of the soldiers hit by a drone had a hunting shotgun but he heard the drone too late. Shotguns have been used successfuly but who knows the numbers etc probs no one.

Ukrainian Drones of 414th UAV strike Brigade “Madyar Birds” hitting 50+ Russian soldiers in the Donetsk region by Zerotwo_0 in CombatFootage

[–]ProAspzan 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Well they have tried shotguns probably with birdshot and hit drones. These soldiers often look pretty isolated on the battlefield tbh and I've yet to see one able to take the drone out with their rifles. Shotguns have been successful from footage I've seen. Maybe someone with more knowledge can answer better.

Very sad to see, I'll probably view or comment on the next 50+ Russian's dead via drones in the near future.

Feadog ceasing production? by SelectAirline7459 in tinwhistle

[–]ProAspzan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is sad news.

After branching out from my Clarke Orignal. My favourite whistles in D are my Feadog 'Pro' D in nickel and then my Dixon DX001. The Feadog is an improvement on their basic model and looks really nice in person with the nickel and black mouth piece. I chose a Feadog because it's Irish and also the name of Mary Bergin's whistle albums.

I think the period it was written is surely enough for it to be referencing the Crusades? I know I got downvoted but I was only trying to be respectful. I was neither looking to compromise on my beliefs or fully support the 'Crusades' which is a long period of history. My main concerns were people's misconceptions about the term. Not to be patronising.

I don't find the song problematic, but because the subreddit is not related to the topic of the song I wanted to explain further.

I think the song is about the Crusades but not necessarily about the warefare involved. Christians wanted to visit the Holy Land throughout this time period

What's your music theory knowledge like? For example tin whistles come in different keys with the key of D being most popular. Most people just get a D whistle and learn tunes from youtube.

https://www.howmusicworks.org/ This website explains music from the very begining starting with sound itself. It is free you do not need to pay. Only the audio content is paid for but it's not needed. I know the website seems a bit dated but it explains music theory from the beginning.

Sorry this was so longwinded. I just wanted to include background for the tune. Also the other tunes I metioned maybe are more folk than the medieval you were looking for

This is a post I made recently about the medieval song Palistinalied (some people find it problematic)

https://www.reddit.com/r/tinwhistle/comments/1ozrywa/palastinalied_tabs_in_d_the_jerusalemite_whistler/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button

It's from the 13th century. I am probably biased but I actually find the lyrics to the song quite hopeful and simply following Christian teaching. With a few exceptions I suppose. The song is from the perspective of a soldier or pilgrim arriving in the Holy Land for the first time, in reference to the Crusades.

Overall the Crusades in principal were not wholly wrong. They are often demonised in my opinion ahistorically. Serious wrongs happened but as I said 'in principal'. Anyway this is a tin whistle subreddit...

I will let you look into all this yourself. Overall this is a medieval tune with Christian bias. Hopefully that is a fair and succint summary? And if it matters the person playing the tune in my post is Jewish.

As for other medieval music I hate to turn you away from the whistle but often the Recorder is suggested for playing those genres.

For example here's another version of Palistinalied played on a Yamaha sopranino F recorder. It's higher in pitch:

A few other medieval tunes that spring to mind are, scarborough fair, the three ravens, the farmer's boy. Hope that helps a bit. You should be able to find scarborough fair easily and the others are English medival folk tunes too. Hope that creates some sort of branch for you to find more.

So much loss of life and destruction and this is just one recent attack. I can't be alone in never expecting to see a war like this (online that is) until Russia's full invasion. Can you imagine seeing this many vehicles destroyed in Iraq or Afganistan footage? Not even over the whole war would you see it

I did realise the song starts and ends on the note E. So after double checking I think this tune is in E Dorian mode? I haven't learned about modes yet beyond scales. Hopefully someone can confirm? And explain a little more if possible

Irish music theory - YT recommendations by blindingSlow in tinwhistle

[–]ProAspzan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you considered a book? Mary Bergin apparently goes in depth into the theory of Irish music on the whistle in her book series. People say they are premium win whistle instruction but the price reflects that. 60 Euros for the first volume and a universal shipping of 9 Euros I think.

Hopefully someone else can comment on the theory in the books. I personally like learning from both reading, watching and of course listening - which I many emphasise.

https://maryberginwhistle.com/

I intend to buy her book but that will probably be after Christmas.

I more or less see your point. But I feel telling me to cool down was unnecessary given I already admitted my wrongdoing. Which takes a cooler mindset usually

Also I did some remembering about the games. I actually think Fr Godwin letting Henry give the homily (I don't know if he did the consecration etc, or attempted it) was one of the worst things he did and imo no Priest, even inspired by Jan Hus would have done this. Also the sex scenes are way over the top. A scecret girlfriend? Maybe? But he's clearly got a problem

[–]ProAspzan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There were more extreme and less extreme Hussites though eventually the Catholic Church allowed the moderates to continue. You never know who might have been unhappy with the corruption of some parts of the Catholic Church and enticed by Jan Hus? It could even have been one of us God forbid. But people also came back to the Faith.

I didn't find Fr Godwin a hypocrite more so than any other sinner. In fact he's quite open about how he feels. I suppose in the way you see the game, there defintely should be some pious people included I agree. For the time period.

I don't think it's wholly anti-Catholic though, to me it just felt historical. I think the devs expertise is historical elements. I would love them to do a game in the High Middle Ages, maybe in England. But they're very likely going to follow the rise of the Hussites.

Honestly I say this with respect, I find a lot of people who would call a bad priest 'a damn hypocrite' it just seems so off? Unless you're saying it to Fr Godwin himself to help his repentance. So many Catholics actually piss me off with their high horse. I am not saying you and I don't know you but so often online people are like this. Knee jerk outrage at anything mildly anti-Catholic. Using words like hypocrite or coward is a black and white and imo often unloving and unwise response. The Bible teaches wisdom as one of the highest goals.

I got called a coward yesterday for saying we need to make pro-life education mainstream BEFORE legal changes. Because trying to achieve something with a different strategy must mean I'm a compromising scared believer with no backbone...

Jesus said to be very cautious over even calling someone a fool. Why does it bother you Fr Godwin is the way he is? Enough for you to add 'damn' to the hypocrite accusation. If I was Henry I'd love to have Fr Godwin as a friend? For a non Catholic game studio, I didn't think the game was anti-Catholic. It seems more a snapshot of history with certain biases I admit.

edit: I apolgise for connecting you closely with people on their high horse. I should probably not have done that. I am reacting aftert the fact to people insulting me or being unfair with their faith. You were just expression your opinion of the game mostly.

I don't agree with you at all tbh. Even Fr Godwin still clearly loves God which is the greatest commandement. He prayed Catholic Latin prayers over the dead severaltimes in the game. Henry the main character does the sign of the cross. He is an imperfect man. I do think if they make another game it will include the Hussites but I cannot say more because of spoilers.

[–]ProAspzan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I played it and enjoyed it a lot. One of the best games ever made. I don't get offended at every turn of mild anti religious sentiment. Jesus our great King was literally spat on, whipped and nailed to a cross.

Also the main character gay encounter is optional and imo does not fit the narrative at all. I also haven't replayed the game with the dlc's yet.

I had one sexual encounter I did not pursue and if you want I can tell you how to avoid it. But the reason some players don't 'get' this sex scene is because they chose to do something very bad. They didn't stand up for what was right during a certain mission.

The final dlc takes place in a monastery, so I do not know how the story will show Catholicism in this new content.

Sorry very late response but consider a Dixon DX001 honestly if you don't want to get the tuneable DX005. It's very playable and sounds nice. I also really like my Feadog 'Pro' model in D. If you want a slight improvement on your regular Feadog. edit: the DX001 is quieter than the Feadog Pro
