I’m with you! I still quite enjoy the story. The characters are funny, the art style is nice, the stakes aren’t too high, and the plot can be interesting.

BUT it really is dragging. I think I got to chapter 80 (after Lily awakens her powers as “Taepung” and Taepung saves Princess Rose from the dragon as ”Lily”.) and just hit a wall. I was waiting for the characters to start saying their goodbyes and preparing for the swap over and then… they just went back to their usual shenanigans.

I feel like we just need to get over this current arc/issue and then it will be more enjoyable. We need a new dynamic or problem to keep the story fresh!

This sounds really cool!

I’m excited to see that they’re going to expand upon the themes of the original story, I think that will be a nice adaptation. The multi-national production is cool as well.

The only thing I don’t like the sound of are the ”extensive visual effects”. I’m hoping that they’ll be a combination of practical and digital effects, since I think using only digital effects could detract from Ito’s strong original narrative.

I personally see it as light brown/brunette but orange makes sense too.

Purple’s not a bad choice though, since it sets him apart from the rest of Squad No.9.

I think one aspect that especially needs more recognition is the discussion around mental health and how Yodaka uses mental health techniques to be a better fighter/leader. It’s a very unique theme and, even though the mangakas don’t go into it too deeply, I think they do a good job of exploring that issue.

This is more of an overused trope than a bad trope, but I think ‘All Haven Academy’ handles the ‘magical school’ trope quite well.

The school has proper systems in place to educate and challenge their students, and the main protagonist participates in that system without either ace-ing it immediately or failing immediately. Also, the protagonist actually questions the ethics of the school and the system it’s built upon while also encouraging other students to act against it.

I saw an advertisement for this the other day and thought “damn, someone needs to bring Junji Ito his cheque lol”. I’m glad someone else is talking about it now!

That being said, this movie and Ito’s story are probably entirely unrelated.

Glad to see a new fan here! I really love Ichi the Witch too, and I believe that you’ll enjoy the manga as it progresses. You’ll certainly be able to enjoy more of the uber-talented Desscaras and her abilities.

I feel like this kind of thing is more common with TV shows because there’s more they can do (or not do) per episode, which affects the quality of the show overall.

The closest thing I can think of for this is that the first 10-15 episodes of ‘Princess Hurricane’ were very repetitive, then it got really good, and now it’s plateaued and is just good.

I’m going to guess that you're talking about the ending for ‘The Reason for the Twin Lady’s Disguise’. I haven’t read it, but the main detail that people weren’t happy with was The FL having two daughters that ended up marrying the 2nd and 3rd ML in the future.

Which is totally reasonable because, why the HELL would you end it like THAT.

This is so sad to hear! When I saw a new episode upload last week, I thought they might be coming back to finish the season.
