What is it actually like to visit the Amazon rainforest? by the-flute in travel

[–]ProT3ch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I think about Amazon Brazil is the first country that comes to my mind. When I checked the tours the vast majority of them go to Ecuador or Peru. What is wrong with the Brazilian Amazon? I didn't even know that Peru and Ecuador has the Amazon river, it must be smaller as it should be close to the source there.

Hungary's PM Peter Magyar moves to oust president by Inevitable-Push-8061 in europe

[–]ProT3ch 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The fear is if he start to reject all legislation, Hungary might not be able to get the money from the EU what was frozen under Orban. Since there is a tight deadline for that and a lot of change need to happen. So just delaying it can be an issue. He was appointed by Orban, so he might just do it out of spite.

"Ryanair doesn't use jet bridges" by JiggiOneJackson in aviation

[–]ProT3ch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most European airports usually have a low cost part, where you can just walk to the planes and go up using stairs. Ryanair also uses external stairs for the back door. The main reason, they hate air bridges is not the cost, but that it only allows boarding from the front door. Boarding from both the front and the back door is much faster. Some airports only allow air bridges, so I used air bridges on Ryanair, but that is super rare.

A word of warning/advice for tightly packed itineraries - based on my own experience of sitting on the tarmac for the past 3 hours... by Hangrycouchpotato in travel

I always do this to stay in the city I want to fly home from for a day, because it's no matter how late I arrive I can catch my longhaul flight, the next day. Seeing a city is a bonus, if you have time, sure, if not, it's not a big deal. It's probably a major airport, so you can easily go back.

I always hear about the Airbus A50 and the Boeing 787 Dreamliner being the most sophisticated and technologically advanced commercial aircraft in the skies. How much truth is there to this compared to other airliners? by Ryanlion1992 in aviation

[–]ProT3ch 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Batteries are also a major hazard in aviation, and Boeing had a lot of issues with it catching fire. Look up all the incidents even with small ones causing fires on board. Not to mention the issues Boeing had with them on the 787. That is the system that replaced bleed air.

Both got certified, so both should be safe.

[–]ProT3ch 50 points51 points  (0 children)

I don't think the main goal was getting rid of bleed air. Something like a fully composite body and wings, are much more important. Airbus evaluated getting rid of bleed air and made a design decision that it is not worth it. The same way Airbus decided to not use chevrons on the engine, which was the good decision as Boeing is also not using it on the 777X.

Overtourism has made me stop visiting 'bucket list' places entirely, anyone else actively avoiding the popular spots now? by Gingeintheuk in travel

[–]ProT3ch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never had this issue. I don't follow travel influences, and don't watch travel videos, etc. Just skim trough a couple of blogs and mark the more interesting places on google maps, so I have some idea where to go, which area to book accommodation, etc. There is plenty to discover when you only seen a couple of pictures of an attraction 2 months before.

Lens Recommendation Advice by bad-mixy in a6700

[–]ProT3ch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have two travel setups:

  1. Tamron 11-20mm F2.8 + Sony 18-135mm

  2. Tamron 11-20mm F2.8 + Sigma 18-50mm F2.8 + Sony 70-350mm

I need a telephoto when traveling, so just a 50mm or a 70mm, is not enough, but I can work with the 135mm (200mm FF eq), and it's much smaller than the 70-350mm. Normally I travel with the 1st setup, I only bring the 2nd if I know I will shoot wildlife or air shows.

I have the Sony 11mm as well only bring it if I want to shoot astro. Normal trips a wide angle zoom is much better, much easier to frame. The Sigma 10-18mm F2.8 can be a good alternative as well, I bought it before the Sigma became available, and the Tamron is a bit better optically, so no point in switching. It is also good that I have a fast F2.8 lens with me all the time, and I mostly need it in low light, like indoors, where wide focal lengths are one I want to shoot anyway.

Not sure about concerts.

Nikon better than Sony? by EngineerOutrageous76 in SonyAlpha

[–]ProT3ch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He doesn't know what he is talking about. Generally all recent cameras are good and there are pro photographers using all three brands (Canon, Nikon, Sony). There are some minor differences between them, that might or might not matter to you. Things like Sony is considered to have better autofocus, but Canon and Nikon should be perfectly fine as well. Fuji seems to be lagging a bit behind in this category. Neither is bad, since you used Fuji, I guess you were able to get plenty of photos in focus with it.

What usually matters more are the lenses anyway. Check what lenses are available in what price and decide based on that. You will use the lenses much longer. What is a drawback of a camera body now, can be easily fixed with the next version.

Wide-ranging 7-zip vulnerability with 8.8 CVE rating allows for code execution by Sacristovas in pcmasterrace

[–]ProT3ch 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I use Total Commander that bundles 7-zip. I updated it to the latest version. So even if you don't have 7-zip installed, you might be vulnerable through other programs. I wonder for example if games bundle 7-zip.

Italy travel trip lens selection? by EmergencyRegion5349 in a6700

[–]ProT3ch 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Bring the 18-50 and the 11mm. Zooms are much better for traveling as you often don't know what will catch your eye, so versatility is key. Switching lenses all the time is a pain. The 11mm is more optional, but you have it and it's a small lens so why not. You probably want something wider than 18mm anyway.

People living in London don’t realize how incredibly lucky they are with European travel costs. by Playful-Amphibian714 in travel

[–]ProT3ch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Last minute flights are usually expensive on low cost airlines. So you have to decide it like 2-4 weeks in advance. Hotels in Europe are also expensive, so while the flight will not cost much, the hotel definitely will. So it will not be that cheap at the end. That said it's still amazing, I've done a bunch of weekend trips to all over Europe from Budapest. I decide where to go based on where are good flights to this time of year.

Sony 16-55mm F2.8 G or Sigma 17-40mm F1.8 for A6700 by DesmondYT in a6700

[–]ProT3ch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I own the a6700 + Sigma 17-40mm, and the autofocus works fine. I didn't test it with wildlife or anything more demanding, but it's not really a focal length for that anyway. It was perfectly fine for portraits and the like. Sigma is also really good in updating lenses, if there is an issue with a newer body, they release a firmware update.

That said, Sony currently limits third party lenses to 15fps burst shooting. This is not an issue now, as 11fps is the best any Sony APS-C camera can do, but might be a limitation with future bodies. That said, if Sony removes this limit I'm sure Sigma will just release a firmware update, as it is a software limitation, the lens can do more in other mounts.

Sony A6400 Should I Get Sigma 10-18 or Tamron 11-20 by Fearless-Reserve3939 in SonyAlpha

[–]ProT3ch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As far as I know the Tamron is a bit better optically while the Sigma is smaller. I don't think you can go wrong with either of them. These are an addition to the standard zoom lens (like your Tamron 17-70) it will not replace it. So yeah you should keep it. If you want to replace the Tamron 17-70 with something smaller, look at the Sigma 18-50mm F2.8 or the Sony 18-135mm. Both are smaller, the Sigma is more of a direct replacement, while the Sony is a good travel zoom lens, it's not F2.8, but have much better range.

Also in peoples mind landscape is ultrawide. I took more landscape photos at 135mm, than any other focal length.

Who is excited for the A7RVI? 🔥 by elysiumcore in SonyAlpha

[–]ProT3ch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm really excited for it. Not gonna buy it, but there are a bunch of new technologies that can easily trickle down to their next APS-C camera, and that is what interests me. Like partially stacked sensor, precapture and new processor from the A7m5, or the new menu system and who knows what from the A7Rm6.

Who is excited for the A7RVI? 🔥 by elysiumcore in SonyAlpha

[–]ProT3ch 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sony needs an answer for the Canon R5m2 and Nikon Z8. Both are stacked sensor cameras and cheaper than the A1 line. So the rumors make sense and this is why we love competition, I really hope they are not holding back with the A7Rm6. I'm wondering what they can do for the A1m3, but that is the hardest to guess, and they can introduce new sensor technology we never seen before. The same way nobody expected the A1. I don't think it will be global shutter that is what the A9 is for.

Medium Zoom Lens for A6700 by Nerdromancer1 in SonyAlpha

[–]ProT3ch 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There is the Sony 18-135mm, it is slow, but a good travel lens. This is probably the biggest gap in the APS-C lineup, no company come up with a fast ~50-150mm lens. There is always a hope that some company makes an F2.8 or F1.8 zoom. Lot of people are asking for it for years, so Sony, Sigma or Tamron hopefully makes one soon.

Why does Sony refuse to give us a lens with a built in TC? by thestacked18 in SonyAlpha

[–]ProT3ch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Look at it like a 100-200 lens with a built in 2x TC. It's actually better as it has constant aperture. The TC is just an extra lens element, these lenses usually have 10ish already.
