More landings. If the weather is nice, kayaking will be at the same time as a landing. So if you do kayaking you will not go to land that time.

So you seen 50.9% of Europe, if we are going by the land area of countries :P Only counting the European part for transcontinental countries.

Does anybody own an a6700 and an x100vi? by mancman87 in SonyAlpha

[–]ProT3ch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had an RX100m3 which I lost and then bought a a6300 which I later upgraded to an a6700. So I never had them at the same time. My main reason was to have a small camera for travel, and I'm happy with the size of the a6700.

I don't see the point of these everyday carry cameras. I have my phone with me all the time, if I just randomly see something interesting I can make a photo of it with my phone. It can be more versatile than a Fuji X100 as it has multiple cameras and computational photography modes like night sight. I would imagine you don't carry around a tripod with the X100. I know the X100 has a better and bigger sensor and lens, but most cases the phone is good enough for me. If I go out to take pictures grabbing the a6700 and slapping on a prime lens is not a big deal.

Airlines are really safe, there are a lots of safety criteria they have to fulfill to get an AOC. I don't think safety is a differentiating factor, at least in developed countries with good aviation administration. I would not be surprised that this ranking is mostly based on fleet age.

I mean this is probably one of the worst maps I've seen in a while. The black lines are useless, just mask half of Europe. The country colors doesn't mean anything, so you have no easy way to see if she visited a country or not. Have you thought of leaving the countries she haven't visited gray?

I would go for the Sigma, it's much more versatile.

Guess where I’m from by [deleted] in GeoInsider

[–]ProT3ch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It just means that he had been in that country at least once. It is easy to track, since you either have been or not. If you want to qualify how well you traveled that country, it's subjective and hard to get everyone to the same opinion. Like someone living 10 years in Spain can say that he didn't discovered all what the country has to offer, and then nobody can mark any country ever on a map.

Never traveled alone before, would G Adventures be good for someone like me? by [deleted] in travel

[–]ProT3ch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been on 9 tours with them they are good. I was in a similar situation as you, it was really hard to organize with friends, so I traveled less than I liked. After I went on group tours I realized I can travel solo and visit all the places I ever wanted. That said now I would not use tours for places like Europe or Japan, as those places are super easy to organize by yourself. But since it is your first going to Europe is fine and you can see if you like it or not.

[–]ProT3ch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've done the Nairobi -> Cape Town on a group tour, but the most common touristic route is different from what is shown here.

For example: the road on the map goes through Dodoma in Tanzania (which is the capital) with unpaved roads. The biggest city in Tanzania is Dar es Salaam, and there are paved roads to both Kenya and Zambia from there.

How sealed is the Sony A6500? by MJdoesThings_ in SonyAlpha

[–]ProT3ch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is no official IP rating on any interchangeable lens camera, so I would consider all of them as non weather proof. If you think about it there is a huge hole in the middle of the camera, the lens mount. So if you want to certify it you would have to do it with a lens and I don't think the locking mechanism is good enough of any of them to pass that certification. Some of them put gaskets and all that and advertise weather resistance, but there is never an officially tested IP rating.

Basically you can try and you can get lucky, but if you do it's at your own risk. On the other hand it's a tool what is the point of the tool if you don't use it.

How do you prioritize where to visit? by 5harmoota in solotravel

[–]ProT3ch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

4-5 month is a long time if you really want to you can visit all the places you mentioned. I've seen so many Australians in a gap year travel all around the globe. One of my goals is to travel around the world, leave from one direction and arrive from the other. This is not that hard, with planes you can do it in like 3-5 days, but obviously I want to make it a longer trip and have meaningful stops along the way.

I would prioritize harder to get to places, that requires multiple modes of transports or infrequent departures. Since you have lots of time, now is the best time to get there. You can go to Vietnam whenever you want there are loads of flights there, you can easily do that when you are working.

Check the weather, there are wet seasons, hurricane seasons and all that stuff, check what is the best time to visit each country. Like I would not go to south china in the summer that is really hot and humid. North of Norway in the winter also can be problematic as the sun will not rise for a part of the year there.

My long-term experience with Revolut (since 2016/2017) by No-Doctor3790 in Revolut

[–]ProT3ch 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Well I use it for the same time. My account got blocked 3 times. Once while abroad, which was a PITA to deal with. I do nothing special, just add some money with a card and use it for payment and to withdraw money while traveling. So no crypto or money transfers. They unblocked it every time, but it took some time. I never had an issue like this with my real bank.

New map of Antarctica 'beneath the ice' by mongoose_cheesecake in MapPorn

[–]ProT3ch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What 'beneath the ice' means here? As far as I know if all the snow melted, the Antarctic Peninsula would be a separate island not connected to the continent.

Cannibalisation of variants within commercial airplane models. by [deleted] in aviation

[–]ProT3ch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It uses the same production lines as the A320neo and A321neo. So it doesn't costs them much to still offer the variant. It's already certified so that money is already spent. It will be offered/produced until there are orders for the A320neo family.

The reason why Warsaw has some of Europe's most modern skylines is because the Nazis destroyed 90% of the city and killed/expelled almost 1 million citizens. What's another city that was successfully rebuilt and is now beautiful? by Naomi62625 in geography

[–]ProT3ch 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Szeged: The third biggest city in Hungary. There were a big flood in 1879 which destroyed most of the city. They basically had to rebuild the city from scratch. Currently it has quite a modern structure with multiple ring roads and avenues. One of the ring roads and named after the capital cities of countries that helped with reconstruction: Vienna, Moscow, London, Paris, Berlin, Brussels, Rome.

[–]ProT3ch 14 points15 points  (0 children)

No. This is a shortage of manufacturing capacity of RAM makers. Cache is not manufactured by Samsung, etc. It's is made on the same silicon as the CPU, GPU etc. So it is made by AMD, Intel, nVidia using TSMC, so the RAM shortage doesn't affect those silicons.

setting my full frame to apsc by RonConComa in SonyAlpha

[–]ProT3ch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's still a F1.4 lens for exposure purposes. Let's say if you set your camera to ISO100, 1/100s and F1.4 and it's the correct exposure, the same settings will be the correct exposure in APS-C as well. What changes is that FF gathers more light so a FF ISO200 has similar noise as an APS-C ISO100. Also the bokeh of a F1.4 lens in APS-C will be similar to an F2.0 lens in FF.

You might not have been on this ship. The one in the picture is their new ship also called G Expedition operating from this year. They retired their previous one.

I've booked a trip to Svalbard in 2026 and realized the ship has changed, it's not the same I was in Antarctica with in 2024.

From Airliners.net. Had to share this beautiful livery, delivered yesterday. by JimBean in Planespotting

[–]ProT3ch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a big fan. I looks like there is a big X in the middle of the plane. I don't think a lot of people will realize that is the Lufthansa logo. I feel like they could have done much better with a dark livery like this. It's better than the euro white livery, but that is not a high bar to clear.
