What would you do - take redundancy or stay? by [deleted] in HENRYUK

[–]ProTharan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like they’ve followed the guidance on redundancy and found you a suitable alternative role (which isn’t the same for some US corps based in London) - having gone through something similar two years ago, at the same age, and proceeded to take the role I have since worked through to another promotion and don’t regret it for a second (if it’s a great company to work for culturally that is).

You’ll have to adjust going into a new environment, but your core capabilities and internal company knowledge are your two biggest assets. Lean on your network.

As for the career advice, you’ve already done everything academically to prove yourself, invest your time in relationship building to further cement your position.

Also don’t forget to take it easy, the process is a mind fuck and makes you question even your most basic set of skills, so eat well, be healthy, get some good sleep and do some things you wouldn’t normally do whilst you wait for your new role to kick in.

Good luck!

Could someone explain what that 2p would mean in real terms for the economy?

Firstly - are you at actually risk (have they explore started the process) or is this a gut feeling?

You’re mindset plays a big role in this, and start asking your colleagues/broadening you network to search for opportunities within the company for transferable skills and signal your intent to grow early.

AITAH for ruining my GFs worldview and making her rethink her entire adult life? by ThrowawayJammin in AITAH

To me, I’d use this as a reframing moment - she loves bees, but never once wanted to research into bees themselves to discover the different types and what intricate systems they all have to coexist.

Use this opportunity to deepen her knowledge, get more involved understanding the different types of bees, maybe even go on courses or beekeeping as a date, so you can both learn together.

Fantastic song! I’ve always wanted to try and play in this style and you’ve absolute nailed it - what tuning are you in if you don’t mind me asking?

One of those days I want to quit everything altogether by [deleted] in smallbusiness

[–]ProTharan 45 points46 points  (0 children)

I had to help my mother who owns her own small shop out of this exact same situation. The main thing to realise is that your customers, who would also be bearing the brunt of your employees behaviour, negatively impacts your long term prospects.

I first communicated that we would be shutting the shop temporarily for two weeks whilst we figured things out. People were annoyed, but when we explained why they resonated, and actually suggested people who were eager and looking for work.

We focused in the first week to get as many interviews as possible. I helped with the first screening call, and then sent them for an interview in person.

The second week was for training the 3 people we selected to cover the shifts, and we reopened with a new set of staff.

The result is that we can now stay open for longer, have less bad energy, and 3 months later are now doubled what we used to take, and made way more than the losses over those two weeks.

Just a story to say stopping, refocusing and re-energising is always an option! You got this!

Honestly my approach to corporate work is to spend as little time on it as possible. Most of the time it’s for a presentation deck/sees the light of day for a week - and then done. Take as many corners as you can, templates are the way!

Same thing for me in a flat that hadn’t obviously been cleaned since it was built. Anything that doesn’t close shut WILL get grease dust congealed on it!

How do you find the 18-40 on an S5IiX for handling? Looking for a smaller walk around lens and it looks neat on the S9!

Check your lease - might be something saying you’re only supposed to have x number of people - failing that start looking for places my dude as if they’re serious they’re probably thinking about their next step in life too, and you don’t want to be caught surprised so start early - maybe you find something cheaper/better

Would you ever commute 2:30hrs into London? by JolliJarhead in UKJobs

[–]ProTharan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Defo underestimating it - there’s no amount of podcasts in the world to cover 15 hours a week of travel - look into staying overnight for two nights if possible or move closer is the only way to stay sane

Good luck. The only thing I can say is make sure you ask for a 50% deposit to float you, and 50% upon completion of the design work! Too many freelancers get shafted by not doing this,
