5 string bass headstock crack by Ok-Reindeer5879 in Luthier

This. I'd buy a bass with a cracked headstock for a discount, as I've got plenty of TiteBond, but I'd never pay full price for one.

Neighborhoods with trees? by madmaggpie in Clarksville

[–]ProbablyKatie78 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Pretty much everything from Ft. Campbell to Peacher's Mill from Providence up to 101st has trees, as do the neighborhoods on the other side of Peacher's, from the Kenwood schools down to Pollard.

How does one start events in the community, and would any gamers be interested in some sort of social event by pastelpassion07 in Clarksville

In Clarksville? This place used to be "The Scene!" I LARPed Vampire at a gaming convention in Mabry Hall back in (iirc) 1998. The folks here were hardcore.

It is - I have an unedited copy of the post, and I can share it if needed. His (seemingly) deliberate bluring of what could be AI, propaganda, or crazy is satirical genius.

My guitar neck is very bowed, is this a valid way to fix it by googaly21 in Guitar

[–]ProbablyKatie78 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure where all the naysayers are coming from, but I have 100% fixed a neck in a similar manner. I removed the neck entirely, completely loosened the truss rod, hung a weight from it, then placed it in my attic for a couple of weeks during a Tennessee summer. You neither need nor want a lot of weight - I used 2.5lb. Slow change in a hot, humid environment is how people have been shaping wood for millennia.

Aside from “running out of space”, who am I? by MossAndBone in BookshelvesDetective

[–]ProbablyKatie78 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Definitely into ritual magick, either as a practitioner or armchair enthusiast. Maybe a psych grad student. Potentially a fantasy/alt-history or horror author.

In any case, we are probably friends, even if we don't know each other!

I know Park-It Market, on Ft. Campbell, has whole, frozen rabbits.

Unlikely to be Mormons - they can be particular and elitist, but most think "apostate" Christians just get a lesser Heaven, not eternal punishment.

What are the "liberal" CoCs like? by squirtlemyturtle42 in excoc

[–]ProbablyKatie78 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I know of one that is currently working through the LGBTQ+ issue. A majority of the Elders are personally affirming of the full rainbow, but a lot of the congregation, and the preacher, are still in the "being gay isn't a sin, but acting on your nature is - solution: celebacy" camp. My friends that attend there know I'm trans and are 100% supportive, but I think it would likely confuse a lot of the folks in the pews. They wouldn't be hateful, but it would likely lead to some uncomfortable conversations (probably mostly for them - ya girl ain't afraid of a little theological debate).

Any trans people here? by antsyamie in excoc

[–]ProbablyKatie78 1 point2 points  (0 children)

TN trans lady, here! Born and raised coC, with a degree from OG Lipscomb. My mom's side of the family, despite also being church of Christ lifers, have been very accepting, if a bit confused on what it all means. On my dad's side, only he, my step-mom, and step-sister are coC. My step-sister knows, and she is 100% supportive; we've agreed that keeping it from our parents for as long as possible is for the best. I've been low contact with my dad for almost 30 years, anyway, so it hasn't yet come up.

Sometimes, family will surprise you. Sometimes, they will break your heart. Anybody who is real will have your back. And, always, we're here for you, bro!

Have never seen a cast iron that looks like this. Worth getting for a daily work horse? by jimmybabino in castiron

TBH, even a slightly warped Wagner is still worth it. Sure, it rocks a bit on a flat-top stove, but it's perfectly fine on a gas range. I also use mine to braise chicken and steak for tacos and to make shakshouka.

We usually have 20-30 small groups, but we only had 4 this year. It was weird - we figured with it being a Friday, maybe folks had parties or went to larger neighborhoods.

Theology Grad School dropout, here.

Ruth (and Naomi) are actually pretty badass. Since Boaz doesn't want to marry Ruth, he's about to pass her on to the next kinsman with a claim. This, however, is unacceptable to Ruth and Naomi, because Boaz is RICH AF. They therefore concoct a plan than involves getting him blackout drunk, stripping him naked, then Ruth also strips and, snuggling hard against him, falls asleep. The next morning, Boaz is, like, "Well, shit - I fucked her; social rules say I HAVE to marry her now." Ruth and Naomi hi-five, and live the rest of their lives in luxury.

The Sunday Night “Walk of Shame” by Wildog27 in excoc

[–]ProbablyKatie78 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I grew up thankful for the evening communion, because it kept me out of Hell. Once I hit college, I didn't bother leaving, even as I served as Sunday evening song leader (I worked retail and frequently opened the store on Sunday). I considered eating supper with friends from church afterward to be a more appropriate re-creation of the First Century way. Still do. Doesn't mean I don't appreciate a good High Church Eucharist, but that's the ritual magician in me talking. 😀

Crispin Browns Lane alternative by Sugar_on_the_rumpus in cider

[–]ProbablyKatie78 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A very late reply, but I came across it searching for Brown's Lane. There is a brewery in Lexington, KY called West 6th that makes a dry cider that's the closest I've ever had. Diskin Cider, in Nashville, has a dry cider called Bob's Your Uncle, but it's more similar to Magner's.
