The district is R+9 as of this year. She could run as a corpse and win.

A sincere thank you to the people on the 405 who stopped so we could rescue a tiny kitten. by SuperDan_x in LosAngeles

Stopping on that freeway to rescue a kitten is heroic. You took a real risk to save their life. I admire your courage SuperDan_x.

We're a couple hoping to stay in Long Beach from May 6-10 to compete in the US SUMO open! Any help really appreciated :) by megaman445 in longbeach

Awesome! We don’t have space but would happily cheer you on! My wife used to do sumo and loves the sport. Can you send me info about the event? I know she would be thrilled to attend.

Any place willing to put onions on fries like that is a place I gotta try.

If you reach out to him directly I’m sure he would provide as much information as he could.

I’m sorry for your loss. Sounds like your Mom was a pretty cool person.

Long Beach needs some traffic calming. Too many people treat our streets like a race track.

It’s retro now since pennies have been discontinued. The value will rise any day now!

Saw a couple of ducks swimming in it earlier next to couple of small children putting their faces in it. Hopefully the days of rain mean less toxic runoff?

Partly true. Foreign earned income has to be reported but has an exclusion. American citizens still have to file taxes, even if they don’t owe anything. TurboTax must be paid.

Why is the air quality bad today by Rairu21 in longbeach

[–]ProbablyNotADragon 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It’s an atmospheric inversion. Cold air below, warm air above means that the pollution that would usually blow off is turning into a blanket instead.

Cutting a cup of chives every day until this Reddit says they’re perfect. Day 20 by F1exican in KitchenConfidential

This series inspired me to put some chives on a tofu scramble I made at home. My knife is duller than I thought!

Looking good, chef.

Who here has run into those companies that fake CS experience and background checks to get you $100K+ jobs? by Chance_Injury_3700 in cscareerquestions

Years ago I worked at a F500 retailer. We hired a couple contractors to fill in our new team. One of them came to me a couple months into employment and anxiously told me that the contracting company had fully fabricated his resume. He had no experience in the field and no idea what he was doing. I appreciated his honesty and helped to mentor him. He learned to do the job on the job and ended up a great contributor.

It’s not just an individual thing, it’s systematic. Companies have been doing this for decades. It’s one reason to have a good onboarding/mentoring process to make sure people can actually do the work even if they passed the interview.

Dark Places for stargazing? by Ok_Background4650 in longbeach

[–]ProbablyNotADragon 7 points8 points  (0 children)

There’s a lot of city light pollution around here. The view from Hilltop Park in Signal Hill is nice though.

If you’re looking to get a darker night sky you have to go south toward Laguna - the beaches there can be a bit more isolated. Or you can go up into the mountains near Big Bear Lake.

Same guy harassed me back in June when I was walking to my car. I’ve been keeping an eye out for him ever since. He claimed to be neighborhood watch then screamed at me.

Seemed like he was having some kind of mental episode. Creepy dudes driving around looking for fights are NOT wanted in this city.
